[water set] #031 - St. Ives

New perplex city card produced in London's free copy of The Penny on 2nd June 2006.

Image is found in the link, which takes you directly to the solve page for it:

https://www.perplexcity.com/solve/can_solve.cgi?keyword=penny

And look at the top 10, where some lovely idiot re-signed up numerous times to solve the card 6times and knock others out of the top 10 Rolling Eyes don't you love people.

As for the solve, it's an old, old riddle that I hope everyone knows.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The answer's 1, since the 7x7x7...etc are coming from St Ives, and our narrator's going there.

Oh, and for those who didn't notice (like me before I double-checked) it's got some of the letter shapes on it, and it's 7 of spades.

Once again with the Die Hard 3 reference.

And people suck. He's not even in London (niether am I, but hey), so he didn't see it in The Penny and obviously is not very serious about the game (check the profile).

My naive feelings about the goodness of people on the internet has been shattered. SHATTERED, I tell you!

Someone please post the image of the card?
I forgot to save a copy, and now I can't get back there. Sad

Definitely not in the spirit of the game. I would expect that when MC see it they will take appropriate action, as they did when some cards were solved before the official release date.

I have emailed MC the following.

Hello Perplexians,
Thanks for the free card #031 St. Ives.
However, someone has logged in several times with similar user names to get multiple top ten solves. Some of us think this is not in the the spirit of the game.
I would appreciate your take on this situation.
Thanks

Grizy

We'll see what happens.

Does it really matter?

In the great scheme of things... no, obviously, it doesn't matter. But I imagine a lot of people are a little peeved at missing out on yet another opportunity to be in the top 10 and presevered for posterity for all eternity (or something like that).
I find it kinda interesting that there are only 3 unique people represented in the top 10 for this card, they are all in the US and they all know each other.

YES GODAMMIT!!! *ahem* Well, as it won't help pay my rent, buy groceries or enable me to get over my childhood insecurities, I guess not.
I'd still love to know how it feels. I wanna pop my top 10 cherry. /random

For what it's worth, "Bioword", was the halfwit who posted a rather unpleasant, personal garbage message on the PxC forums last week, and had it closed. It seems that the petulant kiddiewinks are getting more resourceful in their efforts to be a royal pain-in-the-arse...Once more everyone...

P.S. Top Ten Solve status is fairly pointless - at least to me it is - but I appreciate how some people find it...er...not sure. Gratifying? Satisfying? Something like that anyway. This was evidently just an attempt to upset people for the sake of upsetting them - perma-ban+removal of those solves is about the least that should be done.

Actually they are solving cards at school, their teacher put them on to it. Which explains a lot, really.
One of them seems kinda into the game, though.
I blame the fact that I am stuck at home sick for the reason I am taking such an interest in thier personal lives. I'm not a lurker, honest. *cross my heart*

There seems to be an accepted code of ethics in the ARG world.
You don't intentionally deride anyone, be offensive or spoil anyone elses enjoyment of the game.
Top ten solves are important to some people, especially those who don't have any. That is why I added my comments to this thread and emailed MC.

mandymaria's explanation makes things clearer, just kids messing about and not a malicious act.

I'm going a little off-topic here, but just wanted to say that it reminds me of another similar riddle, which runs along the same lines. (covered for spoilery, because it may drop hints)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A plane crashed in the jungle. Where did they bury the survivors?
