Great spot on the map generator!

I've been playing with the inputs, and I think that 175Ma is a better fit for generating the map.

What I did notice while staring at the picture for too long is that the land that eventually becomes italy (its just off the coast in the middle of the card, just left of the card). Is that its just not there on the card.

Not sure what it means, I just thought it was odd.

Any chance the areas could have been connected through some sort of celestial happening, such as being on the path of a comet or an eclipse.

The new Pangaea map is excellent, but obviously there is still some ambiguity as to just where the stars are/end up.
With the top star possibly Svalbard and the bottom right star possibly NE India - the Himalayas...
Could there be a connection in the fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials? Northern Lights/The Subtle Knife/The Amber Spyglass.
Svalbard and the Himalayas both have connections in there. I am only halfway through the second book.
Can anyone who has read them all recall if there is a connection in the north west corner of Africa or the north west corner of South America?
Tried Cittagazze just in case...nope!
For anyone unfamiliar it appears to be quite a cult trilogy with a New Line Cinema film in production. (I had not heard of it until a couple of weeks ago when a work colleague gave me a copy and recommended it).

Sorry Stratman, I've read them all and, as far as I remember, there's no mention of Africa or South America. Most of the third book is set in the Land of the Dead and the land of the Mulefa so not even on Earth I'm afraid (ours or Lyra's).

My first post here, so trout away if necessary.

As far as just searching through wikipedia, I found this page somewhat relevant..
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catastrophism
Not to say that the answer is "catastrophe," as that doesn't really satisfy the question's "mystical place," but it might be worth a shot.

This card is particularly annoying because you have to start guessing before you even get started looking for answers.

The question "to which mystical place were these locations fated" is ambiguous, and it is hard to determine if the locations "were fated and never actually ended up at this mystical place" or if the locations "were fated and have arrived at this "mystical place."

In the second interpretation, connections between the modern locations would just have to be made, which is going along the lines of a recent film, book, etc.; that might be the ticket, but it seems too easy (though the card does imply that destiny is destiny and "fated" means its gonna happen).

The first interpretation would mean we have to find a theory from a past perspective (which is how Von's clue could be tied in), but the difficult part is determining when this perspective would come about.

This means we would be looking for either a hypothesis or theory that came from all of these locations seperately(a sort of prophesy that was seen in all of these locations, i.e. paradise, utopia, etc.), but resulted in their being at the same place; or a hypothesis that took a global view and had the locations come to this mystical place. If the second is true, it could be a hypothesis that dealt with Pangaea directly, which is a concept that only started really in the early 20th century (i think), or it could be a hypothesis that dealt with the locations modern-forms, and had nothing to do with Pangaea.

Sorry for this ranting, I'm just trying to clear my thoughts and make it easier to determine what the card is looking for. It's entirely possible that I'm spouting a bunch of bullcrap and am clueless. If these assumptions have been made in previous posts, my apologies.

As a quick follow-up

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The bit before the actual question reminded me immediately of "The Matrix," and while I cannot really think of anyway to connect these locations to the Matrix, it certainly is worth a shot (I don't have the card yet, but it would be nice for someone to try it out)

Following on from kirschner19's update just above. I tried zion and can confirm that is not the answer - really like the idea that this card might relate to, in my opinion, one of the greatest film triologies ever made.

I did have a random tangential thought that the card might in some way relate to the Indiana Jones films (not sure if there are four of these). Think they were all searching for the Holy Grail - but I really have no knowledge of these films and so am guessing somewhat blind, but if each film was theoretically set in a location near one of the four stars I might be on to something.

Alternatively here are two nice tangents for me to wander down for a while. They will, I am sure, end up have nothing to do with helping to solve the card!

There were only threes Indy films. The last one was looking for the holy grail. The first one was searching for the Ark of the Covenant and the second film was about some fictional (I think) mystical stones.

Tried...
Raiders of the Lost Ark
...a week or two back when I suggested the locations might be film locations.
Nope!
Anyway it seems the South American jungle locations were filmed in Tunisia.
Could be another card that will be solved with an inspired guess!

Having tried 'predestiny' and failed I moved on to Greek mythology. (OK, I know mysticism and myth are not the same but some degree of despair began to creep in!) I can confirm that Lethe, Oceanus and Styx are incorrect. So, 24 hours in the cold and I'll try some different ideas.

opsis,

I don't think it is that far of a stretch. To the Greeks, it wasn't myth it was religion and thus could be considered mystical.

I've been combing through the old Bulfinche's to see if there is any story that might relate.

On Pangaea!!!!

Been doing some deeper reasearch into pangaea and came across this question & answer site

Q: How widespread was T. rex around the globe? How did the break-up of Pangaea effect the species' dispersal?

A: Fossils of T. rex are known from sites located throughout western North America, and they've all been found in rocks that date back to the end of the Cretaceous Period, some 67 million years ago. The breakup of Pangaea, on the other hand, actually began in the Jurassic Period, millions of years before T. rex lived. By the Late Cretaceous, the continents were approaching their present positions, so a Late Cretaceous globe would not have looked too strange to us. However, North and South America were not yet connected, but North America and Asia were. This geography probably explains why meat-eaters like tyrannosaurs hunted in the north, but different types of meat-eaters, like the abelisaurs, ran amok in the south. On different landmasses, different types of animals evolve over time.

Dont know if this means anything at the moment (But Niether did broadside but look what happened with that one, lol)
