Just a question... is there a pyre in the middle?

I guess I am being stupid, but I still don't get this.

Clearly:

(1) the PC site accepts the answer;
(2) the card image was taken from http://www.itis-molinari.mi.it/cgi-bin/reconstruct.exe;
(3) the card shows pangaea.

But I do not see how you use the stars to get the location.

For example, the map earthsdestiny.gif just takes each star and joins it to the answer location. That does not help to identify it. Arguably one of these lines is close to a line of latitude and one is close to a line of longitude on a modern map, but I do not find that particularly convincing, especially since the far north star is so hard to pin down precisely on a modern map.

Also, if you read the previous 14 pages people seemed to reach the answer by trying a large number of guesses. There is nothing wrong with that as a strategy, but I am not sure it is what MC intended.

1,2 & 3 Correct

The star locations are:
Greenland
Australia
Ecuador
Algeria

No modern map is really needed, the map I posted back on page 9 of this thread helps alot.

I personally liked this card, but in the end it was way to easy for a silver.

If still stuck almagest send a PM and I will give you a few big clues Wink

Well, I am stuck in the sense that I still don't see the reasoning, as opposed to the guessing, that leads to the answer.

I looked again at your two gaea maps, manleym, but I am afraid I am not much the wiser!

Okay To all still trying to nail the Card here are a few short hints that will nudge you in the right direction:

1) The Star constellation orion will help especially its belt.
2) These are resting places for very important rulers of old
3) Connect the points together on the card
4) Type what you see Wink

Many thanks, manleym

Perhaps, I should have been clearer. I already entered the solution successfully on the site. I am just trying to understand the reasoning process (if any).

1) I don't see how you get to Orion's belt or why it helps (I can see that the four white points look like stars, but why Orion's belt in particular?);

2) how do you get to from the card to resting places for very important rulers of old? (except maybe as one of many possible "mystical place"s );

3&4) (connect the points and type what you see). Hmmm. Presumably you mean the shape is suggestive? But (a) it is the wrong shape (those at Giza have square bases, not triangular), and (b) essentially any non-convex set of 4 points would provide the same clue?

Or do you mean that in some way we get lines crossing at the location? If so, how? Someone posted a map which purported to show that, but all they had done was to join the present day locations to the target location. We need some way of *deriving* the target location.
