[S2] #234 Happy New Year

Excuse me if i'm being a dumbarse here (it wouldn't be the first time). I've just briefly seen this card in a pub but have been following perplex city avidly and everywhere i look i can find no record of it like it doesn't actually exist yet or hasn't been released

It had a very colourful background (possibly fireworks from the title) and had a streak of what looked like bright light running down the centre!!

I'm very interested to know if this has been released anywhere yet and if so how can i get my mits on one. I wish i'd stared harder now but i was peering over the shoulder of a young lady with a low cut top on and you can get in trouble for that kinda thing round here............

Ermmm, I've never heard of it, and I don't think anyone else has, my guess would be you saw a Wave 2 card for season 2, its not been released yet AFAIK, where in the pub did you see it? Was it someone elses, on a wall, etc. I'm all intrigued now, shame you couldn't get a picture or anything but seems very weird.

That's intriguing, wave 2 imminent then? A release would pacify some people Smile

And I can't believe that sort of thing is frowned on in Romford Wink

Well, i gotta say i'm glad i'm not missing the obvious lol. It was on the table in front of her on a HUGE pile of what i assume was other perplex city cards. She was on her own but sat facing the bar and me being me didn't have the nerve to approach her.

I've stacked up all the perplex city cards i own (which is all of them (including the warm up cards) minus the season 2 silvers and about 15 silvers from season 1 and the hamleys cards and 257 lol) so about 30 roughly and i'm sure the pile she had was still taller.

Damn those nerves "Hi, you're into perplex city too, thats an interesting card...................................................." grrrrrr. I shall be frequenting that pub even more than normal in the next few days

It's a sad sad day when you get the opportunity to gawk at some lovely boobies and you're more interested in the cards on the table in front of her

Hm... very curious.

My guess is that they are a Mind Candy employee, or someone very closely connected to one to get cards that, technically, don't exist yet. We might get lucky and have it be someone recognizable, and maybe pry a wee bit further.

So, what other things about this girl did you notice? Wink

Other things, hmmmmm, she was dressed smartly, i kinda assumed she was on a lunch break, was drinking a small drink, i guess it was a spirit and lemonade/soda. Looked very respectable and totally unapproachable to me lol.

Sorry i ain't replied sooner - been away from the comp for a few days, works been manic, currently on my laptop in somerset returning to essex tonight where i'm gonna have a mooch round the pub (the sun on london road, romford) if anyones interested.

After seeing the card and posting on here i did a thorough search on ebay and found the card amongst a full set of season 2 silvers which i meant to bid on and then like i say work got the better of me. Gutted because it went for £50 which i would have doubled. Ebay item number 290126169478. You can see from the pic basically what i've already mentioned on here. Wish i'd told you guys now, then at least we might have a scan.

I don't think it was a mind candy employee because i think they would either do it in london city or go far enough away to stop people moaning that perplex city is so london orientated. I could be totally wrong though, maybe like you say someone closely connected. Heres hoping wave 2 is imminent

Quite right - the picture on that auction includes a card none of us have (the middle one in the bottom row). And which you can't even solve on the Mind Candy site because it isn't listed at all. Very odd. Something slipped out from wave 2?

Well...I e-mailed the seller to see where they got it, do you think that given MC have put some gold cards and other signed cards in general packs that they're throwing in a few teasers for season two? Easter egg cards? All this should probably be in card meta Rolling Eyes but I'll move it across and start a new one once we actually get our mitts on something that can be solved Smile

Well, I'm happy to report that I'm the lucky guy who won the bid, and I'm even happier to report that the cards arrived today! There are a couple of notable things about this card:
1) It states "Season 2 Wave 1" although it isn't listed on Mind Candy's site (as aliendial noted)
2) The guest puzzle architect is Oliver Keers who I assume must be our very own oliverkeers13!

The card is #234 and part of the Noughts and Crosses set worth 920 points. Front transcription:
Code:
This journey would not have been possible
until 1999.  But where does it start and finish?

Back transcription:
Code:
Ilja and Anja waded along the river-bank, hand in hand, searching for a home and a family.  One day, they came upon a bridge of sturdy stone and iron together, below which the river was aboil with unseen and deadly currents.  This bridge led from the barren and harsh lands they had traversed and into a lush and green countryside beyond, wherein fruit hung low on the tree-branches, and rabbits and pigeons lay fat and easy to catch.  They at once resolved to cross the river and live more easily in that bountiful country, but were astonished to discover a toll-taker in the centre of the bridge, who would not allow them to pass.

'Please, sirrah,' Ilja said.  'We are tired and hungry, we are cold and lost, and I see sweet apples in the trees beyond this bridge.'

The toll-taker scoffed at their sorry condition and yet would not allow them to cross.  'This road leads to my town,' he said.  'We have no use there for filthy orphans.  Only those with a half a pur lek to pay the toll may walk the bridge, else you must swim there.'  Then he braced himself upon his stave with his legs wide, well ready for an adversary thrice the size of poor Ilja and Anja together.

At the, Ilja and Anja measured the distance of the river to see if they could swim, but they were too weak, and the river was too wide, and they knew they would surely drown.  Then they set about offering the toll-taker what few items they had, to see if he might barter with them.

Ilja and Anja have a truly miserable time don't they? I hope a "happy ever after" card back appears at some point.

Does your code work to access the solve page smartyman? Curious that it's not listed and yet still wave 1.

Streak of light / line of numbers lol close.

First thoughts, 30 numbers plus the 2 gaps gives 32. Do you think we're looking for 2 numbers as the answers or two locations? 2 numbers based on the spread given seems too guessable, so i'm hoping its two locations.

It looks like the numbers are written in different colours, and possibly different fonts. This could be highly important and is hard to see from the scan.

Finally, journey not possible until 1999 - perhaps some new technology discovered/implemented in 1999 made this journey possible, the card draws me towards spacetravel...........(not sure why!)

A new card to think about yay!!

I don't want to scratch the silver panel yet so I haven't tried the card code. Despite the fact that the card states "wave 1" I think it must be part of a set of samples that have been printed for wave 2, and therefore I don't expect the card code to work yet. But it might, who knows.

The background appears to be fireworks, but it also appears to be covered in water spots (printed, not actual Wink ). The height of the white boxes which the numbers are printed in vary, but I think the font is the same for every number. Some numbers such as 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 are taller than the others (0, 1 and 2). There are no 5's or 9's. Below is the number line again with color added in parenthesis; they used lots of colors and not all are easily distinguishable from the others, but I think I got it right so here goes:
Code:
START (red)
1 (purple)
4 (black)
3 (brown)
3 (green)
2 (light blue)
2 (red)
6 (dark blue)
10 (light blue)
3 (black)
7 (gray)
6 (teal)
1 (orange)
2 (green)
2 (red)
14 (purple)
7 (dark blue)
6 (green)
8 (pink)
10 (yellow)
1 (green)
3 (black)
1 (red)
2 (brown)
2 (purple)
12 (gray)
2 (green)
3 (light blue)
2 (black)
4 (red)
4 (yellow)
FINISH (green)

Edited to fix some colors - thanks Tomby!

Very unlikely to lead to anything but it never hurts to post just in case - my first thought was 1999 referring to the Prince song.

Numbers and colours relating to albums/tracks and spelling out a sentence/question?!

Probably nonsense - the fireworks and title of the card strongly indicate it's to do with years/dates/time somehow but I thought I'd throw an oddly-shaped spanner in the works of people's thought processes early on!

a Journey, huh? well, first of all i would like to say :
"THANK YOU" to all that found this card. (saw, found, and bought).

so, with that out of the way, (and no hints from OK13) i'd like to put in my 2cents.
1. A journey, i think of Km or miles. like it's a long path with each intersection's numbers. (my first thought was of some random bike path from OK13 to his school, MC, and back....what? it's a flipping silver, i could be right, lol)

2. 1999, and happy new year. I looked up 1999 (i keep going to 2k, bad darkhuman) and Jan 1st was the day the Euro went into use.

oh, also:
HAS ANYONE ASKED VON FOR THE TEXT HINT????????????

Oh that and i thought english chunnel. i was wayyyyy off.

My guess is that it refers to a trip on the London Underground. The colours will correspond to the different lines, and the numbers to the number of stations travelled along that line. Probably involves travel on the Jubilee line extension (gray) which opened in December 1999.

I don't have time to work it out exactly though Sad
