Getting the
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
summmyreds

was ok. See, for example, http://www.kalva.demon.co.uk/pc-cards/pc234.html. But you needed the hint. The computer language is exceedingly obscure and you would be most unlikely to find it without the hint.

Almagest -

You seem to be forgetting that this is a silver, and is thus SUPPOSED to be obscure. If they'd just come out and said "THIS IS HOW TO TRANSLATE THE MOSAIC", it wouldn't have been nearly as challenging. Possibly a black-level. The card wouldn't have been as puzzle-worthy, in my opinion, if they had simply handed you all the tools to solve it in the beginning.

Has anyone noticed the silver lines across this card?

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum. I realize I'm kinda new to the game here, considering I just started in with the cards about two weeks ago. It's been tough reading through everthing that's been going on here for the past two years.

I was looking at my copy of this card and one thing that stood out to me are the two silver lines, one horizontal, and one vertical running the length and width of the card, underneath the graphic. They're clearly visible if you tilt the card around so the light reflects off it properly.

The horizontal line runs between "then" and "globe", and "shards" and "path".

The vertical line connects "subtle" and "wage"

It looks far too intentional to have been a printing mistake, but doesn't seem to bear on the solution to this puzzle at all.

Has anyone else noticed these lines, and has anything been made of them, yet?

Nothing to do with the puzzle, simply a printing problem and you'll find plenty of cards that do not have the lines. I'm pretty sure this was mentioned earlier in the thread.

crovax1234, my dislike of this puzzle is not really because of the obscurity, but because I have not seen a convincing derivation of the answer (see my posts on July 11, 14, 16 on page 14). Now maybe it is a really tough puzzle, there is a good derivation and we have not found it yet. In that case, I still dislike it (although much less) because it is too easy to guess tha answer.

Maybe you think the 1/9 derivation is "correct"? If so, I disagree, and we could debate that if you want ...

In contrast to some other silvers, I think the solution to this one has been found properly and is a good puzzle - though I am probably biased! I do think that silver puzzles should not have one word answers as it is too easy to find them by guessing.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The large picture gives you the message SUMMYREDS. There are 19 reds. You use the small 1 and 9 pictures together to get the next message. Although I think it may have an error in it (a 'the' that should be an 'and') it gives a series of allusions to the answer. It is a logical path from start to finish

Just started looking at this card and came to the Piet language fairly quickly (for me). But now the link to www.bertnase.de/npiet/ seems to be broken.

Does anyone know another link or could let me have a copy so I can solve this without reading all the spoilers. I am tempted.....

Ta.

Ooooops Strike that it appears to be back now. Cheers anyway.

You're bound to find the answer.

As Magma said on 7th May it really is obvious, it's a one word answer and is probably the word that came to mind when you first saw the card.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In case you need further help it is a blue link word in the Narrative section of the Wikipedia article. Think Noah's ARC (sic).

Thanks to all those very clever people who understand computer languages and programming. I've never been able to work them out, but reading through the discussions it came to me after doublecross's hint.
Very clever.
