I'm not buying that 197 is a space. If I was setting the puzzle, why would I use 32 two's as spaces and 1 107? It's possible but pointless.

This has already been solved? Rats!

I agree that the unsolve string before the last is likely an important clue.

Getting back to the Kim message for a moment, what if 107, 109, 113, 127, and 131 are punctuation marks? We've allowed 2 to be a space, why not other non-alphabetic characters? If this is in fact a message from Brian to Kim (given the BE + KS heart, that Brian Enigma is the author, and it is addressed "Dear Kim," I think that's pretty much a given), it seems remote that he would compose a 31 word sentence. Much more likely, he would have need to break up the flow or use commas and apostrophes and such. Brian has to leave the alphabet & space character alone (otherwise he breaks the entire puzzle), so any punctuation would have to after the message. It seems odd to me that you have 8 characters out of the entire long set that are wraparounds. This leads me to think they are not wrapping around but extending the set of known characters.

Any thoughts on this? If nothing else, it makes the anagram 8 characters shorter. Laughing

The previous answers did not require punctuation, so I'm going to spec that the same is true in the hidden block.

My first instinct would be a numeric progression, A,B,C...X,Y,Z,0,1,2,3,4

Or 1,2,3,4,5

Which would draw an interesting, if tenuous, relationship between the 42 strings, and the gemstone text (which I believe to be printed in 4 font sizes rather than 2)

*goes back to grinding*

perhaps, as the message begins 'To Kim' it would end 'from brian', that'd remove some letters from the mixing pot!

Question

some things its not:

KS is Kim Sakkara, but theres only 1 k in the string

On Brian's site theres a photo gallery of cats, so i went with the cat connection but his cats seem to be called The Precious and Ebenezer, and there are no z's in the string either.

My attempt at the Kim message

I took a crack at figuring out the Kim message and came up with the following:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
my beautiful belly dancer, will you marry me? i apoligise for using a secret uv message as the method. remember, do it for the kitties. this is a happy triumph. I insist: I paid a pants that hurt!

Of course, given the amount of letters to work with you could probably write a good part of the Gettysburg Address. Well, at least 33 words of it. Anyhoo, here's how I arrived at the above message:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As others have stated, the cat and heart on the chalkboard are probably hints. Looking at the photos on brianenigma.com you find out Kim and Brian recently got married. The dates for the engagement ring photos are the end of 1/06, and wave 3 was released in 4/06 (I think that's right). So, I figured this might be a secret proposal type message that Brian added to the card for the heck of it.

From the site we also learn that Kim is a belly dancer, and they have two cats. I started anagramming with all these info nuggets in mind, and eventually arrived at the above message. I also figured that the unidentified primes were other punctuation marks, so I decoded with that in mind too. I know it kind of falls apart at the end, but what can you do? I'm amazed I actually got something that used all the letters and actually makes some sense.

I send Brian a message asking if he would be willing to provide a nudge, like the message's subject or how many sentences, but I have yet to hear back from him. However, I'm thinking that the message, no matter what it really is, is probably some sort of secret love message to Kim and was never meant for the rest of us to figure out. But you never know, maybe he will be willing to give us a hint.

I think I'm done with this. I don't know how many hours it took me to get this, and I don't think we'll ever really know what the message is. Oh well, on to the next unfinished problem... maybe the Insights number string Bang Head

Cool anagram tool

I found the following program and used it in my Kim message decoding. It's pretty sweet, and it's free! I really wish I knew about this when I tackled Mother Tongue. It suggests words as you update your text, has nice word filters, and an easy to read letter frequency graph with metrics.
