I have tried hms victory (no punctuation)
I have also tried sir home popham
nope!
One guess left - obviously 'kicking or kick' is the clue, but cant see a connection (no pun intended!) at the moment.

Well done for getting the answer and we all move on again (eventually, I suspect, back to Shuffled!), but I still cant help being disappointed at another silver card answered (as opposed to solved) with a guess. Perhaps Ms Maitland could pop onto the forum and explain how the solve works. I just returned to the Polar thread to see if something similar had happened there, but apparently not. I cant believe the people at Mind Candy who choose puzzles and assign them to card colours would have picked puzzles for silver that you have to guess the answer.

Unlocked and got it at last!
If kicking was a clue I still don't get it.
But now I see how there probably is a solve there in the flags.
A great guess in the first place!

I think you better turn the stupidity dial up to about 8 or 9 before you post another nugget, 'cos it's still not simple enough for me to figure it out.

I reckon when we finally decode the card it will say:

WHAT DO YOU GET IF YOU MULTIPLY SIX BY NINE

At least that's how it feels, with everyone trying to reverse-engineer the answer and all...

The Flags do not need to be deciphered but a simple substitution would make things a lot easier

Well, heck! That's what I've suspected for a while! It still didn't get me anywhere (and I can't check answers anyway). Back to the drawing board! Razz

A little help, please? Confused
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Does the British flag count? Does this read top to bottom, left to right? Are all of the characters letters?

Kicking is not part of the clue. Have you heard of the expression "kicking yourself over it"? Referring to the fact that an answer is almost soooo obvious that you feel kinda stupid for not seeing it.

Anyway, I'm slightly annoyed as I had the answer...twice (because of a spelling mistake on the first guess that I caught as I hit submit Rolling Eyes ). I just had too much information.

Thanks to doublecross I knew where my "mistake" was. Very Happy Wink

have we had any brain waves on the source of a solve yet?

I don't think the gaps between flags have ever been mentioned, some after 3 and others after 4 flags

Using the last listing of the flag details here each group is on a new line.

L:
(5/!) ? (!/!)
? (W/B/14) (X/1/2) (P/2/4/9/1/0)
M:
UK ? (X/1/2) (0/No)
(3/!) (X/1/2) (6/4) 8
? 3 (6/4)
? (P/2/4/9/1/0) (0/No) ?
R:
? (P/2/4/9/1/0) K ?
6 (P/2/4/9/1/0) 4 K
Turn (X/1/2) K ?

That gives 9 groups by my reckoning, 2 with 3 flags and 7 with 4 (or 3 & 6 if you irgnore the Union Jack). Given the number of options and question marks this is very speculative but just a thought should anyone want to come back to this.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
NB the number of letters in the solve doesn't match to the number of groupings

Having said that I think that thisis most likely the reason for the answer!

Don't want to distract too much time from the solving of my other unsolveds Mother Tongue, Riemann & The Earth's Destiny

After being outright told the answer by someone, I agree that the answer is obvious only in the way that it has a strong link with the Battle of Trafalgar. Trouble is that there are a huge number of obvious answers to do with Trafalgar, and this is towards the end of the list of obvious answers I would have tried.

So all in all not kicking myself.

Well, as I had asssumed when I first read up on the Battle of Trafalgar that it had already been tried, and so never tried it myself, I'm still kicking myself (the lack of sleep has been difficult). This is why I got it so quickly once AndyAndyo mentioned that the answer was already posted.

At least this is getting me to take some guesses on other cards now, just to make sure they aren't the answer.
