Smallville season 5 - Project Mercury: The hunt for Dr.Fine

This week's episode of Smallville had a scene where we could look over Lex's shoulder at what was on his laptop, er, his computer. There was a video clip (in an AOL branded player window) of someone reporting on seeing Dr.Fine in the jungle. Apparently our LutherCorp tycoon pays AOL for unlimited broadband access, as the email he was reading displayed with just screennames in the To: and CC: fields. The subject of the email is BLOG READY. At that moment, The WB overlays a 'bug' of the AOL logo man running across the screen. They gently nudge us to "join Lex's hunt for dr.fine" at www.aol.com/Smallville -- they repeat this information at the end of the episode, before the credits roll, so they must be serious.

The URL redirects to http://television.aol.com/feature/smallville-tv-show where you can read about the cast (and see once again how hot James Marsters is) and also click thru to http://journals.aol.com/prjctmrc2ldr/ProjectMercury where the blog is located. The AOL screennames visible on the televised episode were 'prjctmrc2us', 'prjctmrc2asia', and prjctmrc2africa. The blog entry is made by prjctmrc2ldr -- oooh, could this be Lex? (I've added him to my AIM Buddy List, but I'm afraid to ask him his age and if he's single.)

I'm not putting this in News&Rumors, just because I don't consider this an ARG or even a game. But we do like our television around here, and we love playing with online content, viral marketing, and possible email contact with fictional characters. So, if anyone plays along, please post a report for us.

Just for historical interest, here is the link to previous season's online fun for Smallville.
