Max, I don't believe him. And it's not memorabilia it's the key to the final phase of the game. Methinks "Jason" is just trying to jerk people around.

Actually, the 10,000 people will get a codex in the mail just like the one in the movie. You'll get a screenshot with 4 codes, and one of the codes will open up the codex you get. Inside will be a paper that tells you how to get access to the final 5 puzzles.

The retail value of the codex is $30. I wanted to be one of the 10,000 people just to get the item. It will definitely be a "cool piece of memorabilia".

there are no 'screenshots' in the package, the combination to open it is printed on the bottom of the package. they are made by the Noble Collection (www.noblecollection.com - they also have some cool replica harry potter stuff, I've ordered from them in the past.

it came priority mail (that's a priority mail stamp on the package) plain white box. still no email.

No email here, either. The wife will be home in a bit, so I'll know if I've got one waiting for me or not. *crosses fingers*

Ah, ok. In the "official rules" they said:

Quote:
Finalists will be mailed via U.S. postal service, for scheduled delivery by May 18, 2006, a limited edition Cryptex replica and a screenshot of 4 codes (the "Finalist Prize"). One of the included codes will open the Cryptex.

That's where I was getting that from.

I resent the fact that I was even trying to jerk people around. I was trying to be nice and share something nice that happened with the contest.

Shows me.

It's alright, dude. I think people are skeptical because it happened so fast and we were all expecting an email, not the cryptex in the mail.

But I can corroberate your story. I just talked to the wife and there is a package at home. White box, etc. She didn't open it, but I'm not expecting anything else, so I can't imagine what else it could be.

And here I have been checking my e-mail every 5 mins today. I thought we'd get an e-mail first and then the cryptex. Now I have to wait until I get home from work... have I mentioned I hate waiting?

I retract my skepticism. As noted above, the rules suggested only an email today, not cryptex delivery. (I have received neither.) With corroboration, you are vindicated.

I too have gotten the cryptex in the mail, but not, as yet, recieved an email. It's really nice, even though I'm not supposed to go see the movie (Catholic, you know), I just might now. I followed the directions, and here's where it sent me:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google

If you're one of our finalists, congratulations! In order to reach the end of the Quest and be rewarded with untold riches you must quickly and correctly complete the Final Challenge. However, you're too early as the Final Challenge has not begun yet.

The one to complete the Final Challenge in the least amount of time from start to finish will be the chosen one. On May 19th, the Final Challenge, which is a time trial, will be made available to you for 48 hours. Please note that this is not a race and that you don't have to start as soon as the Final Challenge is released. You can begin whenever you like during the 48 hours, but prepare well, for once you start there is no turning back. The player who completes all five tasks with the least cumulative time, not the first to complete, will be the chosen winner.

So, see you all on Friday?

Interesting. The movie is release on the 19th. I have a feeling it involves the movie itself, somehow.

EDIT: I realize how stupid that sounds now, since all of this is related to the movie. Smile To clarify, I think it might require SEEING the movie first, then doing the puzzles.

Oh, on an unrelated note, the cryptexes are going for roughly $60USD + shipping on ebay.

Check it out

Not that you or I care or anything...

Question for those who received their Cryptexes in the mail today:

What time did you submit your puzzle completion?

I know the last puzzle went live at 10am pacific time, so how long after that did you solve and submit your solve?

I think I got in about 1:04 Eastern, but that was after submitting it once, and recieving the 'type the characters' spam message earlier. Were you able to type in the google id and register page? People were saying there was a 'Google Davinci code quest is completed'-type page if you finished too late.
