Dang, removed mine, too. I checked the official site, but it just says "The quest is over. The Da Vinci Code comes out May 19th."

I'm sure the box will go "live" again when he relaunches. Note this is not movie promotion any more, it's the puzzle champ's puzzle challenges.

Cryptex teeth

If you won a cryptex congradulations, take a look at yours where the 5 teeth used to be, they are grinded off.

If not, I'm sorry but atleast you had the fun time playing the puzzles, you can look at pictures I took of mine to see what I am talking about.

Why would they go to the expense to grind off three teeth from every cryptex? I don't buy it.

I'm not sure they were grinded (ground?) off. I looked at the website, and I think one of the versions does only have 2 teeth.

And on a side note, the final challenge is up. 5 puzzles, exactly like the ones before. Good luck, folks!

That's what I thought too, but it's up now. Or at least the introduction page that explains the final phase. There's a button on the bottom that says Play, but I didn't click it.

Reminder: the puzzle is live until 1pm EST on 5/21, and the winner is determined by who solves them the fastest, NOT the first to solve them. So I recommend taking some time to prepare yourselves. I'm going to do mine tonight, when my brain is more functional. Smile

I only wish we could access the previous puzzles as a warmup.

I haven't yet. I'll post my time when I do it, though.

Oh good, we have a sacrificial lamb... Kidding! (not really....)

I'm scared for this, because if it's a DaVinci code trivia thing rather than a google thing, I'm toast. I didn't read the book (yes, I'm one of those three people) and the vatican says I shouldn't go see it. And Tom Hanks has bad hair. 'Course Sir Ian McKellen is in it, but he's in X-3 too. Ah, Life is so hard.

Um, apparenly the people at http://googlefact.blogspot.com have thier own little forum thingy. I guess the last five puzzles are of the same vein as the previous ones, which is also pretty bad because I don't know chess. Yeah. Goodluck to ya'll!

Someone over at googlefact has done the puzzles. All as expected (bigger badder versions of the same puzzles) except the chess thing must have the Q&A option (with impossible questions, I guess) because he talks about brute-forcing it by picking three answers and working through the variations.

Actually, there are no questions. By brute force, he meant that he had no idea how to solve the chess puzzle so he tried every solution sequentially (brute force). So there were 4 possible moves in each of 3 phases. So there are 64 possible solutions if you don't even look at the chess puzzle.

1) 1-1-1
2) 1-1-2
3) 1-1-3
4) 1-1-4
5) 1-2-1

... Skip a few

63) 4-4-3
64) 4-4-4

So when a later player says 'hey 2-2-4 worked for me too', that means he coincidentally numbered the options the same as the first guy?

Edit: Didn't see the post above me before I posted this

-------------------------------------------

Aw man, I hope I am wrong here.

The guy that talked about using brute force to solve the chess puzzle said that he came up with the solution 2-2-4 and somebody else commented that their solution was the same sequence.

If all of the puzzles are the same for everybody, we are plain screwed. Somebody will be able to take as long as they want with all of the puzzles and share the answers with their buddies (or themself if they entered the contest twice). Then they will be able to whiz through chess, sudoku, paint splotches and painting hanging.

This "theory" seems to be verified by somebody who replied that you CANNOT get a new puzzle like you could on the orig 24 puzzles. You can only reset it to the beginning setup and try the same one.

I hope that this is not the case, and it was just a coincidence that the chess answer was the same. Google wouldn't be that dumb would they?
