SYZYGY-The Movie (Plot ideas)

Plot ideas go here to save clogging up the C&C recruitment thread.

Well, here's the idea from Duckie Tarantino...

We've got a shiny new peplex city website giving us 9 discreet 'episodes'

E1: The Theft

E2: The Hunt Begins

E3: The Journalist

E4: The Advisor

E5: The Third Power

E6: The Vanishing

E7: The Mother

E8: The Murder

E9: The Librarian

So, taking the lead from Pulp Fiction, I think we should do 9 different scenes, each about 5 minutes long. They don't have to be in any particular order... in fact, I think we should start with the murder of Monica Grand, using the soundtrack from the Hesh Files as our lead.

I'll have a think about this a bit more and post something longer later on.

oooh, it could be a black and white scene, filmed in silence, the only noise is that that was on the track!

Mix and match the genre styles as well as the timeline. Me likey. Have a film noir feel to one, Benny Hill the next.

P.S. Alright, perhaps not Benny Hill then...

Run the track over a nice slow pan out of a lift and into a flat. Look across a room that's been turned up-side down by a fight. Follow a bloodstain across the wall, down to a slumped body... track ends, sound cuts in to harsh breathing, eyes flash open, music sting, intro credits?

I think Duckie Tarantino's idea about a non-linear narrative is excellent, and love her idea about the murder of Monica Grand.

I am concerned about trying to tell the whole PXC story, though...it's too huge and unweildy to make a decent job of. Plus, we'll never reach the end, since new things keep developing. And what if some of the upcoming revelations are editorially more important than what we have filmed so far?

I think we need to keep a narrow focus on the project. Maybe focus on one plot aspect, or character. Taking the idea of Monica's murder as a starting point (nice and dramatic)...maybe we could just focus on Kurt's story? Like his involvement in Gillit Road, and then moving on to the PXCPD phone ins...we can include real phone ins from ourselves too!

If MC are planning a film wouldn't we do better to use ourselves as players in ways they can't access? That way we steer clear of treading on their toes, while still being able to tell some of the story.

Just my two pennies' worth. I just think we should keep it simple and focussed, the better to make it work.

perhaps the whole thing doesn't need to be a film, rather a series of episodes, ready to be edited nicely into a film/dvd boxset once the whole thing has wrapped up? then we could keep doing another scene/episode every time theres a new episode in the story, so we could keep it up to date.

i love the idea of doing each episode in a different style, to fit whatever the story is, and the monica grand murder idea sounds ace, good thinking ollie/duckie :)

rach =)

Very good idea. I like being able to make it longer if we feel like it. Different theme per episode sounds pretty good too.

I was thinking that we could do a US and UK thing. During each part take a little footage from the US and a little from the Uk

it really shouldnt jump styles around too much. That's madness unleashed.

we can have a bit more than just monica's death. fFor example, we can have some scenes of monica looking very paranoid, communicating with earth people, a scene or two of Sylvia looking desperate --

here's a sort of outline. It's a little ambitious, but what I'm calling acts are really more scenes, and need not be terribly long at all. a minute or two or three.

ACT I
Really we should set it all up some with a scene of Pietro in the hospital. He is lying in a bed, dying. People are around him, mourning. Suddenly he wakes up in a fFrenzy and starts making his maze, then dies. fFade to black. This segment might be easiest to script, fFilm, and direct. The trick may be fFinding someone who can act, and go fFrom dying to fFrenzied to dead -- and make us believe it.

ACT II
we come up on fFingers on keyboards, things fFlashing on screens, and many voices talking in the background about a hundred things. This is us on earth, cracking the maze. This sequence should start calm, just some hands typing, then more hands, more typing, more voices, and we should, near the end, interject a scene of monica staring out a window. We have the opportunity to have as many people produce material fFor this segment as we want, making it the easiest to fFilm, but it doesnt need to be too long.

ACT III
fFade to the photo of pietro and sylvia. we then have a series of shots where sylvia and monica, as described above, are planning to hook up. This should involve them in different settings, in varying degrees of angst. Then we expect "okay, they are going to meet now! cool!" This is a little tricky to fFilm effectively, and slightly demanding, but really the actors need be simply fFrightened and looking fFor answers. need a good script. If i were to cut one piece due to it being difficult to produce, this would be it - except it's necesarry to establish characters and plot. we may be able to merge ACTS II & III into solid units.

ACT IV
we enter a sequence of shots, where we are entering and walking through monica's blood-strewn apartment. This should take our breath away and leave us fFeeling kind of fFrightened. rapid cuts of violence -- which can probably be still photos, blurry and ambiguous -- and possibly of other topical events fFrom the third power or receda trail. This will probably be the longest act, based on the fFact that it will have Cyrus' audio clip playing, and that is uhm .. a couple minutes. We should end on an extreme close-up of what we assume to be monica's neck and jaw. It is an incongruous view, and we can see she is not well. This can be done in one long even shot, with other bits interjected in post-edit.

ACT V
If possible, this is done in sillhouettes. We see only shadows and shapes. Sylvia enters fFrom left (or right, it doesnt matter), runs to monica's crumpled body, they seem to say something, then sylvia backs away, terrified. Very easy to direct and fFilm and perform; may be done by anyone who can fFilm silhouettes. high contrast black and white.

We should close with some sort of moving text, like, "Lost: The Cube. Wanted: Murderer. Reward."

It's not looking like it's going to be happening at the moment; waiting to hear for sure from monkeyboy.

I like the ideas, Scott. I don't actually have anything to add right now, because I just woke up, but I'll think of something more later.

But, uhh...where are we gonna find a hospital-like setting to film in?

I know of a hospital that my friend used to film in. They cleared the ward of patients for a fee of £200 for the day. I'm not saying we'll have the budget for that (if any) but theres always a way to get what we want.

Mwahahaha for blagging
