Email from Tippy

I didn't mention it on here, but I did email Tippy back when Anna had suggested that Tippy would be able to get the cognivia report from Helix.

This is what i wrote:

Quote:
Hi Tippy,

You don't know me, but i'm a friend (or was a friend) of Helix. I
can't believe he dumped you! What a jerk! I know a way we can get back
at him, but i will need you to do something first. Can you get Helix
to give you cognivia's shareholder's report from last week? If you can
send that to me, then i can assure you i will make Helix sorry he ever
crossed you.

-Michael

Just now i got an email back from Tippy, this is what she wrote to me:

Quote:
Dear Michael,

Okay, so, I wasn't going to even read these things, but then Anna found out I was getting mail from Earth. I don't know exactly how she found out, but she may have overheard me expressing my *concern* about it, which I may have done to Von two or three times, in the corridor yesterday. And now I come to think of it this may have been outside her office door, and may have been rather loud, but, anyway.

So, Anna has just told me that I ought to read these mails, in case they are relevant to the hunt for the Cube. Yeah, right.

But, whatever, I was being a good girl and reading the odd one or two, and Michael, I have to say I was quite surprised that you were so perceptive about Helix and I. Yes, he was quite the cad about the whole thing. However, perceptive comments aside, I don't think I like your
general tone, you sound almost like you are ordering me to fetch you some stupid report thing. What am I, your Burg Hound? And, besides, I am not quite sure how you can be a friend of Helix's, because he would definitely have mentioned if he had a friend on Earth.

Ciao

Email from Tippy 2

I e-mailed Tippy to see if I could get something from her, trying to appeal to her characer as we know it:

Quote:
Tippy

We on earth heard recently (through a confidential source) how that no-good
weasel Helix Hesh has been seen stepping out recently with painted hussey
Serena Duncan, who, by the way, judging from her picture, has the WORST dress-sense
I have ever seen. Clearly the man is insane, particularly if he thinks he
can smooth things over by sending you some meaningless trinket. Now it's
all very well to have a hissy fit in the office but we think the better tactic
is REVENGE. A subtle revenge of course, I mean you wouldn't want it to look
like you were actually bothered by any of this. This is where we can help.
We have access to Hesh's (the company) secure file system and from there
can get to Helix's private files. However, this needs his private password.
Have you, in any "pillow talk" so to speak, come across what this might be?
It's important that you get back as soon as possible as, being the cautious
man he is, he is likely to change it very soon.

How does this benefit you? Well, we have reason to believe that there are
highly sensitive files in his private folder that could well be of specific
embarrassment to him, both personally and financially. We want to access
them and expose him for the man he is. Wouldn't it be great to see him on
his knees with Serena dragged through the mire behind him? Make it look like
you got out just in time? And we would do all the exposing, your reputation
would be untarnished.

Anyway Tippy, hope you think this is a good idea? You should come to Earth,
we have many girls of your ilk to gossip with here, and you'd have all the
men eating out of your hand (as usual!).
Looking forward to your response
badbarry

Got a reply today:

Quote:
Oh! My! God! Barry! Serena Duncan! I simply cannot believe it. And you are so right about her
dress sense, or rather, dress nonsense. What an intelligent man you must be. I can't tell you
how shocked I am that any man could move from someone like me to that trollop Duncan.
How can he sleep at nights? And as for the bracelet he sent over, truly, I have seen classier
pieces available for five lecks in children's vending machines. However, I must stress to you
that I did not have a hissy fit about that. I do have a little more decorum. (I was surprised you
said that, Barry, as I was starting to warm to you.)

However, revenge, you may have something there. But again, you seem to have some strange
ideas about me. I mean, pillow talk! Helix Hesh and I were never anywhere near pillows, and
even if we were I certainly wouldn't discuss that with a random stranger.

But let me think... his password. There is something. He did sometimes call me some pet
name a few times, I think some Italian musical term or another, but only in private. It
sounded rather nice, and I said I liked it and asked him to call me it more often, especially in
public. But he wouldn't. In fact we had something of a mild disagreement about it. And he
simply wouldn't tell me why not. Perhaps it was because he had also chosen that word to be
his password? Of course, if he had, I don't see why he couldn't have changed his password
and given the name to me, but then, he is an awful pig.

I have to tell you, though, I can't remember what exactly it was, and I can't bear thinking
about it too much after the appalling way he treated me. I'm sure you can understand why I
don't want to dwell on any private moments we might have enjoyed together.

Other than that, I simply can't help you, but I do hope this works. As you say, Helix really
needs a public dressing down, and then Serena Duncan is welcome to all that is left of him.

Ciao

So some sort of Italian musical term could be the password to Helix's private files. Any thoughts?

Cab, you've got to remember not to save any sensitive company documents on the filesystem overnight anymore (keep it on your key only). It's OK for the rank and file, but we have to be more careful than that.

Bridgit and Kevin insist the private space are perfectly secure, but I don't trust them after the problems we've been having.

Jeez, you people move fast. I just finished celebrating finding it, and it's already moot Razz

Oh well, I'm really curious to see what Anna will make of it.

Some spec, now I've skimmed the Cognivia report. It mentions copies of the research paper on Cognivia 6 "will be available to CE professionals in April." Are we going to have to figure out a way to pretend to be one of those?

The Ceretin report seems like mostly fluff to me on first read. One thing to point out though:

Quote:
Proof copies of the forthcoming C6 research paper will be available to CE professionals in April 269.

I'd bet, that this is what we really want with respect to Isaac's death.

But, I thought I'd also note that Helix has an inaccessible (deleted?) file floating around named "Phantom Man."

Other deleted files include:

RFD surpris...

Revised Dist...
PCSD Membe..
Internal Secu...

I think it says Phantom Mar... not Phantom Man though.

Anyway we can get Kurt to recover these?

Well, we can certianly Try. I just typed off an email to Kurt explaining the predicament, suggesting that perhaps he could aid us in the affair. Here's a copy of the email, here's hoping it meets the aproval of my fellow Cube Hunters. Razz
Quote:

Kurt

I'm sorry to hear about the "Caine/Violet/Sente maelstrom" as you called it, but I do believe I have found a little project for you to do while you stay away from the fire.

As you know the Cogniva shareholders report was recovered from Hesh Record's data bank. Fortunately this email has only a small relation to that fact, so I'll cut to the chase. We cube hunters could use a little help. Nothing out of the ordinary though, we just could use a little aid in recovering a few files from Helix's personal stash. We're assuming they were deleted rather recently from he looks of things, so I'm positive that someone with your talents could restore them to their former glory in no time at all. Here's all the information you'll need to get into Helix's files.

Hesh Intranet password: s3cur1ty h0l3

Helix's Personal File password: appassionato

And the files that need restoring, or at least what partials of the names we could decipher:
RFD surpris...
4Q Sales.pdf
tips.jpg
Revised Dist...
PCSD Membe..
Internal Secu...
And finally one that is disputed as being either "Phantom Man" or "Phantom Mar..."

I'm not going to leave a couple problems with the plan hanging out there in the open for you to discover later though. There's a problem with restoring the files directly to the Helix Records data bank. While this course of action would be the simplest, Hesh himself would probably notice that the files that he deleted personally were back in running order, and quite possible find and patch our little s3cur1tyh0l3, and then change his wonderfully Italian password. Fortunately I do believe I've figured a few ways around this particular course of action.

1. If you could restore the files for a temporary amount of time, just enough for them to be downloaded and copied by enough Cube hunters, then delete them, we would have the files and Hesh would be none the wiser. This may pose a little risk though, due to the fact that it may not be possible to go by this particular course of action. I don't doubt that you could do such a task were it possible, it's just that I'm not so sure it is.

2. If you could possibly restore the files and then download them personally, and then proceed to upload the files onto a secure location permanently it would be much safer. Unfortunately I would never want to directly involve you or the CRT if the files were discovered, due to the fact that the acquisition of these files may seem less than legal.

So, I leave it up too you. I sincerely hope that you can help us out with this Kurt.

Yours Truly

Cube Hunter Dranioth.
