[ARG?] Weight of Words

I know I already started a thread about this, but I noticed it was in the wrong forum and I made the other one was basically me asking for help. Plus I figured this thread might actually get some attention in here, because it seems more ARG-like than I thought it was initially. It has also started up again so maybe people up here will be interested. Maybe the old one could be deleted?

Anyway, this trail of sites started back in October 2005 on the Official AFI Message Boards. It seems to a promotion for the band AFI's new album which should be out in the coming months. It stopped around mid-December, but it recently started up again yesterday. Two new sites were found and have been added under section IV. Here is my original summary from a past post along with the new update:

I - Weight of Words

On October 7th, a strange message was posted by someone named "invierno":

hey, anyone know why my name is on the weightofwords site??

Looking at this member's profile gave us the following information:

Birthday:
February 13, 1983
DF Chapter:
Southern California
Location:
los angeles
Real Name:
hector garcia

Wondering what site he was talking about, we decided to add ".com" at the end of "weightofwords, and sure enough this brought us to a site. This site is down now, but it originally showed a menu, a phone number, a list of names, and coordinates we still do not understand. One of the names on the menu was the name in the member's profile. A back up of the image is located here.

Originally, clicking on the number "17" brought you to the band's new website, located here. Unsatisfied, we decided to phone the number on the menu. This phone number brought us to the voicemail of someome named Charlotte (yet another name on the menu). The message was originally a list of numbers that, when converted alphanumerically, gave us "narutitridestsedam." Putting this into the address bar and adding ".com" brought us to yet another website, narutitridestsedam.com.

(Side Note: We are still unsure what this means, but some members claim that it is Bosnian for "on route thirty-seven," which is part of the title of the song "Rabbits are Roadkill on Route 37" which was released about a week prior. The song also features the lyrics "the words have now lost their weight," which ties in to the URL of the original website. Complete song lyrics are located here.)

II - Charlotte

This new website gave us a mysterious video of the band's vocalist having a bandage removed from around his head. He is also mouthing something, and there is a German female repeating numbers. Alphanumerically, these numbers didn't appear to mean anything. We were stuck here for a while, so we decided to give Charlotte another call. Her voicemail changed to the following message:

"Hi, this is Charlotte. If this is Georgia, I've been trying to reach you on IM but I can't so leave your number so we can talk."

Yet again, we were stuck. However, some smart people on the boards realised the words the vocalist was mouthing were the words "Tell Charlotte nothing." With the new-found knowledge that Charlotte used instant messaging, we tried adding "charlottenothing" to AIM. This was the correct route, and we got the following from her away message:

Please Understand: Prononcé comme une lettre Mais constitué de trois Elles ne sont que deux lettres A faire partie de moi Je suis unique et double Je suis bleu, noir et gris, Lisible dans les deux sens Et la meme dans les deux directions.

Translated, this gave us the following riddle:

Pronounce as a letter
But constitutes of three
They are not but two letters to form part of me
I am single and double
I am blue, black and gray
Readable in the two directions
And the same one in the two directions.

We figured the answer of the riddle was "eye," but didn't really know what to do with it. However, we discovered the French singular for "eye" was "un oeil," so we put this into the address box as well. This brought us to unoeil.com.

III - Five Flowers

This new site featured a poem made up of different song lyrics, and when you clicked on them they lit up. In the background was some eerie ambience. Using some guess-work, we tried several word combinations in the poem. The combination "Don't Believe Pain" ended up being correct, and this brought us to theprocessofseparation.com.

This site showed yet another video, which this time was a band member writing the following message:

Toronto Star
Classified
Antiques and Art
Plain Text Run Schedule 21 days
Five Flowers

For the following week or so we monitored this newspaper's classifieds, and eventually an ad from a music and comic shop in California showed up. This ad had a headline that said "Charlotte." We phoned it, but the guy didn't seem to know much. He did, however, respond to the words "five flowers." He said five of us could go in to get the five flowers, so five board members went to the store and fetched them.

"Five Flowers" actually ended up being a mysterious DVD, which we still don't understand. The DVD was simply a gold disc with the band's logo on it and a picture of a rabbit. The DVD's menu shows a looped clip of five white flowers dying, and the content of the DVD itself is quite mysterious. It simply shows a band member writing directions on a mirror, and a person in a car follows them to a building. In the basement, the member who was writing on the mirror sits in the darkness and holds a red ball of some sort out, and the DVD ends. We've looked at every frame of the video and can't seem to find any hidden messages.

A link to a ripped copy of the DVD is here.

IV - The Interview Witness

After the Five Flowers DVD was found, there was no activity for quite a while. On February 19, however, things started to move again. Charlotte logged on to AIM and was away, but her away message said "Off Myspacing." Because of this, we now knew that she had a profile of some sort somewhere.

After some simple searching, we found her profile here. There wasn't much on it, but she had one friend--someome named Apple. Apple's profile was blank except for a picture of, well, an apple, but seconds after going there it forwarded us to a new website: theinterviewwitness.com .

This was a very strange website with another video. This video showed a man with a bag on his head putting five flowers into a vase in a room full of strings and rags covered in blood. The audio was backwards, and when reversed it gave us this cryptic message:

It was October 1971, everything was hunky dory. I was listening to it when at 8, 2:04 in, I found was looking for.

Doing a search for "hunky dory" gives us a David Bowie album which came out in 1971. 2:04 into track 8 the lyrics "Tie him up when he's fast asleep" are sung.

When we typed this in as an URL it brought us to yet another new site: tiehimupwhenhesfastasleep.com .

This site features what appear to be instructions:

February 15th - February 27th
From South to North, West to East
No fire will burn,
But there will be blood.

Listen to Brandon but do not ask him
He who knows wears it on his sleeve.
He sells the rest to every guest,
if you propose the answer is free.
Any ring will do...

I am really loving this, I'm sorry I just heard about it recently...

As for the DVD, is it just me or does it have a certain resemblance to Girls Not Grey? (by AFI)

I'll lay me down tonight,
Much further down.
Swim in the calm tonight.
This art does drown.

The video is shot in the dead of night, and it definatly has an "art" vibe to it

What follows me as the whitest lace of light,
will swallow whole,
just begs to be imbrued?
What follows has led me to this place where I belong with all erased.

The guy from the video has a flashlight (the whitest lace of light?)
and "what follows has led me to this place" sounds an awfull lot like what's happening in this video

What follows?
All insects sing tonight, the coldest sound.
I'd send Gods grace tonight,
Could it be found?

Again, another refrence to tonight, and it's possible that this guy is looking for something ("could it be found?")

I lay me down tonight,
Much further down.
Watch stars go out tonight.
On sinking ground

Yet another refrence to the light

Also, it's Girls Not Grey (The video is mostly greyish/black & White and occasionaly red)

Also: http://www.girlsnotgrey.com/ is registered to the Despair Faction, the site that does alot of stuff for AFI

First, spaceboy posted about this a long while ago, like i would like to go ahead and trout you now... Trout

secondly, if you felt the original thread was in the wrong place you could ask a mod to move it. double posting to multiple boards is frowned upon.

requesting a Locky! if i am allowed to request it.

I agree with the requested Locky! and the moving of the other thread, but the thread spaceboy's post started, didn't really get anywhere, unlike the other one that jordang started.

hmm...yes, but this thread has all the information, there really is no need to keep the other two (we could always quote some of the things from the other ones, if needed)

Alright, there's a new update!

Some fans on the official message board passed around the theory that the poem on the most recent website meant that there would be something going on at a Bleeding Through show between February 15-27. They thought this because of the importance of the word "blood" on the site, and also that their most recent tour dates follow the pattern of "South to North, West to East."

So a few people attended a show last night in Denver and talked to a merch guy. When asked if he had anything to do with AFI, the merch guy asked "Do you have something for me?," and they gave him a ring. In return, he gave them a button that said "Where Are the Five Flowers?".

Now, if you type this in as an URL, http://www.wherearethefiveflowers.com , it doesn't show anything. However, if you do a whois, it shows that the site exists but is not active, and that it is registered to Interscope!

So, the site should be up soon I guess.

=/ wherearethefiveflowers is NOT up, and it doesn't look like it will be. However, we're questioning a memmber of the OMB named "CLEVELAND" as a real person, and not just a player in this mystery.

Three posts, all short and to the point. Cleveland is where Charlotte is from...

Looks like http://www.wherearethefiveflowers.com really exists, I'll explain why:

First, because the whois feature never, I said NEVER lies...

Second, looks like the site is up now, but it just show the message "wherearethefiveflowers.com staging" written in common font...

Nothing in the source code...

Well, what now?

Whoa, there was a lot more than we've thought about, huh?
(Don't worry, you're NOT going crazy; I just stumbled across this topic, and I want to see if I can follow it to the end.)

Hey, my friend had a good idea to try and understand the "wherearethefiveflowers.com staging" message. Since we know that this is from the band AFI, maybe we should look at how they are staged while performing. We also had an idea about the name "Five Flowers," thinking that it meant the band members, but there's only four, so that doesn't work...

Well some bands use back-up guitarists, vocalists, drummers, keyboardists, etc. I wonder if A.F.I do that....
