Lemme see if I can't shed some light on the efforts here:

From the SC-WA (eieio) forum...Wink

This refers to an email that agent Dizzave fired off to Kevin:

"Hello Dizzave,

I'm sorry, I don't actually remember the first text and response. At first I was just messing around with it, and I wasn't paying enough attention. As far as the three digits thing, I tried a bunch of different inputs. Multiple digit answers, words, whatever, just to see what it would do. It only seemed to respond to one number per input, so that must be what it's looking for.

It looks like a standard challenge and response passcode system, with multiple challenges to reduce the likelihood of effective guessing.

—k"

So let me test my understanding here:
-It will take only one input, though there is a possibility of multiple digits per number.
-We're going to be at this a couple times (at least three more days) before we figure out what this is all about.

I'm thinking the chapter has something to do with it. Perhaps the page or paragraph?

Thoughts?

I'm just kind of loosely following along right now so I may not being seeing the whole picture but, when I read the text, here's what I see:

At the end of about ten days (8-9, 11-12) Jurgis had only a few (3) pennies left; and he had not yet found a (1) job—not even a day's work (8) at anything, not a (1) chance to carry a (1) satchel. Once again, as when he had come out of the hospital, he was bound hand and foot, and facing the grisly phantom of starvation.

This is a very simple observation, but I am going to throw it out anyway.
For the correct observations (poison) there may be a pattern developing correct responses so far were 6-1-6 so maybe today 1 will be the correct answer.
It seems too simple but doesn't seem like we got much at this point.

all the pasages have body parts mentioned.

hand foot eyes

I am thinking that we need to use a 1-26 number for each and see if there is a pattern?

any good suggestions?

Kevin is looking into a workspace on the site for files and such.

and I entered 0 & 0 for today's effort, purely because no one seemed to have tried it.

Also as another thought, could the answer for parasites be a letter?

Excellent. Good call.

Not a bad call, though with the text as it is... Let's see how that pans.

Hrm. I'm not thinking so. Check the red bolded text at the top of this page.

Some pretty solid logic there, but it doesn't address the words poison nor parasites. Possible Red Herring?

Query: How'd you come up with the number 26?

For the record:

Batch 0 =
"Many haggard men will be marched through the oppressive streets. Some will be killed. Other men will persevere until they can look upon the clear blue sky with their own eyes. They have been judged guilty by impassive, improbable men. "

6 got a hit for Poison, nothing for 1 on Parasites.

First, if Poison = a and Parasites = b, then for Batch 1 (5/1/2006):
"At the end of about ten days Jurgis had only a few pennies left; and he had not yet found a job—not even a day's work at anything, not a chance to carry a satchel. Once again, as when he had come out of the hospital, he was bound hand and foot, and facing the grisly phantom of starvation. "

Text for Batch 2

He would walk, begging for work, until he was exhausted; he could not remain still—he would wander on, gaunt and haggard, gazing about him with restless eyes. Everywhere he went, from one end of the vast city to the other, there were hundreds of others like him; everywhere was the sight of plenty and the merciless hand of authority waving them away. There is one kind of prison where the man is behind bars, and everything that he desires is outside; and there is another kind where the things are behind the bars, and the man is outside.

I've been digging, and I can't seem to find the text to Batch 0 at all.

That would lead me to believe that things like chapters, page numbers, paragraphs, et cetera won't help us any; this should be something isolated to the text itself, I'd think.

I've also been tearing my hair out trying to find out why 6, 1, and 6 would work.

*sighs* If this is something obvious, I'm going to find someone's hat to eat.

Of course, I spent days figuring out the "Petals around/on the Rose" puzzle... Very Happy

Rolling Dice,
