greywethers.net Login

Based on the criteria from the poem on the greywethers.net page, and using the site list found at http://www.megalith.ukf.net/alpha.htm, and after much sorting and selecting (and a whole bunch of other data manipulation), I came up with the following list of stone circle sites that meet the requirements:

Achanarras Hill = CNARUSI

Aird Sleitenish = ARDLNIH

Beinn A Chaolais = BECHOLAS

Bellmount Lower = BMUNTLWR

Clach Na Tiompan = LHTIOMPA

Derrynafinchin = DEYAFCHN

Doune Of Dalmore = UNFALMOR

Logie Coldstone = GICSTON (GNOSTIC, COSTING)

Penshiel Grange = PSHILRAE (HARELIPS)

Ravensdale Park = VNSDLPAK

Only two of these sites anagram to anything meaningful - Logie Coldstone (GNOSTIC & COSTING) and Penshiel Grange (HARELIPS).

Unfortunately, trying these as passwords for a variety of user names (shadowtalk1, greenknight, and psammead) did not grant access.

I suSPECt that the user name is one of these (most likely GNOSTIC), and the password is yet to be determined based on those arithmetic puzzles found before.

from the first paragraph of the poem, to me it seems like we should be looking for a generic term for the stones Confused

I 'm still thinking "Standing stones" since the remaining letters - "ADINGOES" (after removing the letters as directed) can be anagrammed into "DIAGNOSE". And "diagnose" kinda fits the final paragraph of the poem.

Just thinking out loud... Confused

Dale received the following email from psammeadSPLATgreywethers.net

now that you have messaged me
one condition has been met
so I can answer a few small things
though not near everything quite yet

it doesn't add up you said to me
an error you may spy
I assure you everything is deliberate
to show there's more than meets the eye

if things don't add up one way
perhaps that's not how you are meant
to come to a solution
you must deduce my true intent

Suggests that the 1+2+6=10 on the 1+6.html page is NOT an error but IS a clue to the "solution". I'm even more confused than before. Confused

??: Another meaning for "wethers'

Here is another meaning for Grey Wethers. Don't know if it helps at all, but I thought I would throw it out here:

If tors and ghosts don't take your fancy, perhaps stone circles are more your pint of cider. Here's one about the circles known as Grey Wethers , which means grey sheep in the local dialect, as this tale explain…

A young man was starting up a farm on the moor, and had been to market trying to buy stock. Unfortunately he had not been able to afford the sheep prices, and was drowning his sorrows in a local inn. While he was bemoaning his lack of flock, an older farmer well known for his sense of humour, told the young man that he had a flock for sale. Immediately interested, the young farmer wanted to go and view them. "Doan' 'ee be zo 'asty, lad. 'Ee's gat a foine view vrum thiccy window." Peering out into the misty afternoon, the young man could see, on the opposite hill a flock of grazing sheep. "I'll take them," he declared. The other farmer suggested that he pick them up the following day, as the fog was closing in. The next morning, the young farmer went along to collect his sheep. Imagine his surprise to find his new "flock" nothing but a couple of circles of grey stones, looking for all the world like grazing "wethers."

BTW, here is the meaning of "wether(s)":

wether
SYLLABICATION: weth·er
PRONUNCIATION: AUDIO: wthr KEY
NOUN: A castrated ram.
ETYMOLOGY: Middle English, from Old English. See wet-2 in Appendix I.

SPEC: Different direction

OK, totally new thought.

I was going back thru chats with shadowtalk and he is always spelling things differently. (homophones)
For example:
    grey=gray
    wether=weather
    you=hugh

And in greywethers.net, the poem says "by many names I am known".
Sam Green goes by "Green" and "Greene".

So maybe we are to use different names of grey and wether(s), and not different names of stone circles.

**Addition- I also thought this because of the email Dale received stating the different spellings:
grey grey grey
s
gray weather
x
grey grey grey
6
grey weather
3
whether
8
wether
8
grey
3
grey

Another thought, in the poem, it says "in circles found or but alone", may mean single or plural for "wethers" depending on what spelling you use. For example:
    greywethersnet=14
    greyweathernet=14 (see, no s)
    greywhethernet=14 (see, no s)

So far I am mixing and matching different spellings of greywethers.net.
On one spelling (graywhethernet), you have green and way left. And "way" is another word for "portal".

It, of course, didn't work, but I am going to keep trying. Maybe someone else will see something.

**Edit

There are 6 combinations that I used and no matter what combination I use, the letters "GWYN" are left over, before any of the pairs are added back in. And "GWYN" is part of Irish/Celtic spellings. I tend to work back to front, front to back on some puzzles and I meet in the middle. Still working on the middle part Very Happy

Here is some info on Gwyn of Annwn. I can't get the other letters that are left to amount to anything (still working towards the middle with many different variations of "greywethers").

Another rambling from me Laughing :

Black Valley Black Valley of the Greywethers.
Black Valley of the Greywethers A valley leading into the mountains, dotted with grey great stones which look as if they were once in order. At the centre of the valley is a series of stone circles, focusing upon the King's Stone. Further information under Greywethers. The valley is reputedly the haunt of unmanlike creatures. Most are afraid to enter it. It leads to the haunts of wild men in the mountains. Also Black Valley and Valley of the Greywethers

Greywethers: The stones in the Black Valley of the Greywethers, said to be giants turned to stone, who at times regain their life, most especially upon Midsummer Night. If a man waits their awakening and, in the first moment of their change, speaks his desire in these words, "O Earth, thou and thy first children [giants], I crave of you such and such a thing" (150), he may have his desire, providing that he speaks no further word, answers no questions, and refuses the bribes of gold and women he will be offered. If he fails in this, he becomes one of the Stony People; if he is steadfast throughout the night, he gains his desire and the bribes. Also Stony People and Stony Folk.

Stony Folk: Greywethers.
Stony People: Greywethers

Please explain why? This thread is possible specs for figuring out the LOGIN. Shouldn't this have been stopped sooner than if we are to use the one you suggested? Confused

I think you've misunderstood. I'm not moderating here; I just didn't want to cross-post. I wasn't referring to an entire thread, just my post there which may apply here, too.

Ah!! Gotcha. Just had to ask so I would know what to do, not that that means I will do it right anyways. I am guilty of cross-threading. I have too many ideas running in my head right now. I hate being an insomniac.....
Sorry everyone Embarassed

And I also didn't mean "...use the one you were suggesting" as in your idea. I meant "the one" as in the thread you were suggesting. Nevermind. I see you meant just your post, not the entire thread. I'll shut up now. After this thought Rolling Eyes . Now that I am totally confused, maybe we (as a group) should use just one thread for the figuring out the LOGIN. It seems we are doing the same thing at both places. Shocked Or should I just shut up again? Laughing

I'm using the emoticons too much. Sorry. Getting slap happy.

And while I'm on the subject, my final post about an IM with shadowtalk1 is here. Even though it may have something to do with this thread.... I'm making myself soooooo confused.... Somebody please correct me and tell me where is the h*ll this is supposed to go. Help Exclamation No more cross posting for me on this one Very Happy

Okay, well here I go with my random portion:

2+13.html
2+2=4
1+1=2

This is the one I got, so that's what I've been working on.

Quote:
from the name you choose, remove the pairs
of letters there identical.
if three are there, the third remains
its inclusion will be critical

So, we've established it's the username we're going for:

Numbers:
2, 13, 2, 2, 4, 1, 1, 2

27

Next example:

3+4
5+0=5
4+1=5

3, 4, 5, 0, 5, 4, 1, 5
= 27

In fact, all of them I'm gotten add to 27

So, twentyseven is the username.

Or is it?
Remove the pairs, but if there are three... the third remains
twentyseven
wysve or
weyseve

Depending on whether you take it as "leave the third pair" or "if there are three letters the same, leave the third one"

That's about as far as I can get. No password :S

2+13
2+2=4
1+1=2

3+4
5+0=5
4+1=5

These are the only 2 equations out of 13 that add up to 27 in the manner you have suggested. Good try though, I've been staring at them hoping for some sort of Idea too
