[UPDATE] Perplexcity.com Upgrade 2 May 2006

Angelsk says...

Quote:
These updates are now live as of 13:33 BST on Tuesday 2nd May 2006:

There is a Perplex City map, you can uncover a bit each time you solve a card - and you can only see your own maps. Each time you solve a card with a piece of map on the back - your map is updated
The Community Page has had a bit of revamp, and community news has been split into "Swap Meets and Events", "Other" and "All" (with appropriate RSS feeds and archives)
If you go to a profile of a player that doesn't exist or has been disabled, the site will no longer error - it will just tell you that player doesn't exist
The Virtual Cards have their own page
My PXC will now wish you a Happy Birthday if it is your birthday - more on Birthdays coming soon
Fixed the downloads page, sorry about that
You can now link to the Free Virtual Cards or the Video Competition in your blog
The Video Competition also has an FAQ
The old RSS feeds now display a message saying they have moved, and linking to the new feed location - if you are using the old feeds please note they will no longer be updated
When a card is locked it will tell you how long you have to wait, instead of what time it will unlock
There are now some solve facts on your solved cards page
There are now some Tags RSS Feeds
All accounts with emails that keep on bouncing have had their emails cleared. If you get the pink "Reminder" box when you are logged in, then please ensure you are using a valid confirmed email address, else you will miss out on newsletters, competitions and CLUES!
Plus some minor cosmetic changes
There is no spoon

As ever, comments and bugs below.

Note: The SMS Mobile number in your profile should be in the following format:
UK: either 07779123456 or +447779123456
ROW: + {country code without 0's} mobile number, e.g: +17654321234 (no spaces and no punctuation)

Interestingly on the map page it says:

Quote:
Each time you solve a card that has a map piece on it, a piece of your map on this page is revealed. Once you have solved all the cards from Waves 1 to 4 you will be able to see the whole of Perplex City.

You only have access to your map and no-one else's, so please do not share your map with anyone else!

Does that present a problem for the perplexcitymap.com page?
Or is it just implying there is a puzzle/answer which the map reveals?

Probably not on both questions.

Fair enough, thanks Chris.
It just struck me as a bit odd,
considering all the other sharing that is allowed/encouraged.

Does seem a little weird that you're supposed to hide your map.

Maybe the streets make a giant THE CUBE IS HERE and pointy world map arrow thingle?

Applying Occam's Razor and the Big Shiny Mallet of Pragmatism (lubricated with the Unguent of Unctiousness) together with the T, I, N A, and G of ...you know what...you don't make a map that big and detailed for it to only to be of significance in our recent civil disobedience.

Plus although we're important, they still don't want their operation to be dependant on independants, if you see what I mean. Our map is fantastically useful for us, but we're not everyone. Non-unforumers must have been relying on sticky tape up until now Smile

I've just eaten a scotch egg... Drool

You forgot to use Whitlow's theory of the blindingly obvious. But I'll put that down to the scotch egg Razz

Personally, I don't see it as them not wanting us to share, as we've been doing on here and things, but making it easier for us to electronically view the map pieces we already have. As they can only verify we have a certain card when it's solved, it makes sense that only when you solve a card does that map section show up.

Mine's a week from tomorrow. My sister's is the day before as we were born across midnight. I'm impatient to find out what they do. Do you just get an email or something comes up when you log in?

I hate waiting. Smile

That's not what I meant by my post, I just meant that they need an official version of everything, as this is their baby. Smile Hence why their forum is now open for general discussions about the game as well as just cards. In the beginning unforum was part of the process of signing up or the game (direct link from Firebox) now, it's an optional extra. It is becoming more possible to play without having to visit the forums here at all. Again this makes sense as all the exisiting unforum members who wanted to play already are. If you become intrigued by ARGs in general then there is nowhere better to be than here Smile

Anyway they still link to our "Mash-up" under community. I find that title slightly derogatory though Wink

Not that I think that MC are abandoning us either...just that there is a sensible (and advantageous) balance between the two.

Wave 4 card #92

The very boring back of card #92 shows up on personal maps. Don't ask me why I know, because it is a secret.
