Well I did the final puzzle - now it's just waiting to see. I doubt I made it to the 5 finalists, my best was 25 attempts at 5 min, 7.79 sec.
The last one was not as hard after the others, just too many variables.
Good luck to all the players!

Yeah, I just did it and got 23 attempts in 4:22.36. Also probably not top-notch material. But I guess we'll see...

Well for whatever reason it said that I had used up my attempts after only 2 tries. I had some trouble getting it to load the second time and it gave me some sort of message about the puzzle not being available and that it wouldn't affect my times. Heh, it just took one try.

So, is this "grand prize puzzle" thing that was released today another one of those mastermind-esque thing? I dont like them (interface is not user-friendly), But i do agree that this is very well run
EDIT: I got 8 attempts and 7:37.... but i'm sure that i could cut my time in half if this interface wasnt so complicated

9 Attempts in 6:25:40 on my first attempt.
The way i'm doing it as about as efficient as I can think of, but I just know even 9 attempts will be beaten by someone with a lucky answer to match.
With 5000 people playing the last puzzle in the UK alone, it's likely someone did it in 3 or something silly
EDIT::
8 Attempts in 4:37:84 on my second attempt.
7 Attempts in 4:11:57 on my last attempt.
Good Luck!

final puzzle for the final (alphabet puzzle)
attempt 1: 7 in 11min 44sec
attempt 2: 8 in 13min 35sec (very slow)
attempt 3: 7 in 10min 04sec
almost did it in 6 - was only one damn letter off on my sixth attempt!

I emailed the webmaster and fully expected not to even get an answer. Much to my surprise they responded and fixed the problem. Yay!

Somebody is bound to get 1 or 2 attempts. I got 7 in around 3 mins.
Just the luck of the draw. I'm sure whoever clicks the submit button and off the bat gets the success, if that's even possible, would be jumping up and down

Second attempt was 6 in 3:15. I got a green off the bat. I got one more attempt that I"ll do over the weekend.

Received this email this morning:
Quote:
Close... but no cigar
A record-breaking 1.2 million people were drawn to the Eurostar Quest site to uncover the secrets of London and Paris. Of these, only the smartest 2 % had the skill and cunning required to make it through to complete all the puzzles. You are one of the elite players worldwide who managed to do this, so give yourself a pat on the back and be proud of the fact that you are one of the best code-crackers on the planet.
However, we are sorry to let you know that you narrowly missed out on being one of the Grand Finalists. There were other players who solved the final puzzle in fewer attempts or were that little bit faster, but we very much hope that you enjoyed taking part.
We also hope that the Eurostar Quest has fuelled your curiosity to discover all of our destinations and that it has encouraged you to dig a little deeper and experience what lies beneath the surface of two of Europe's most intriguing and evocative cities – London and Paris.
If so, look out for our next email, as we'll give you some tips of how to organise your own quest to discover London and Paris. Since you made it all the way to the very end of our Quest, we think it's only right to help you unravel the real mysteries of London and Paris for yourself.
Thanks once again for taking part. We hope you enjoyed the Quest.
Oh well
My fastest time was 2:55.61 with 5 tries. I wonder what the winner did it in?
EDIT: Yay! Just got a second email. I won one of the Collector's Ed. of Davinci Code
Quote:
25 copies of the Illustrated Collector's Edition of The Da Vinci Code™ Book for the following 25 players to successfully complete the second prize puzzle in the lowest number of attempts.

Dear Varin, your time was great. I guess someone must have got it in 4. I got it in 5 with just 2 letters the wrong way round, so I guess someone else was luckier. The chances of getting it in 3 would be pretty remote.

I got really lucky and randomly picked quite a few of them correctly. Someone must have done some really good guessing.
