Both of the sites recommended above are fine for what they are, which is player-submitted finds. Some are on target, some are off base, and sometimes those sites lag behind as they wait for new finds to be submitted to the moderator.

Three other sites are more or less the official trail guide, what I call a meta blog. They are sanctioned by the 3 major broadcasters participating in the game:
http://www.insidetheexperience.com/ -- aimed at the USA audience
http://au.blogs.yahoo.com/lostninja -- for the AUS audience
http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/L/lost/blog/index.jsp -- for the UK audience

Each references the others, sometimes even to the extent of linking to another for details rather than cross-posting or duplicating content.

(I personally haven't watched them that closely, but I think they've had daily updates, or at least post major finds in chronological order.)

Re: Missing Organs

What I am wondering is, I haven't noticed any mention of a solve on the "missing organs" clue. Nothing came up on a search. What's the general opinion - is this a dead end, or should I be putting on my thinking cap and revisiting this?

As of this moment in time, I have not heard of any use for this phrase. Because it is a two-word phrase, my gut tells me it will be another passcode to enter when a new inbox box appears, inserted by Persephone onto the site. I won't tell you to stop thinking up alternative theories!

alrighty. so I've searched and searched some more so I think it's safe to ask.

Season 2 Spoiler:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The map (I mean Locke's map). There's a bit of Latin on that thing and I wanted to know if anyone thought it could be important. I tried my luck at translating it and it's proven to be quite the difficult task. Maybe we have some Latin experts out there? I have loose translation work done, PM me if you are at all interested. BIG QUESTION: Is this a big waste of time or what?

Did I do that correctly?
Also, where's "tin-foily"? Smile

katy,
Maybe the following website can help. The website does contain Lost Season 2 spoilers so if you don't want to see those, then do not click.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This site has practically every single piece of information you can imagine for the map in the hatch.

hrm. I guess it doesn't seem so important after all. Sad then again...

Season 2 (late season 2) spoiler:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the translations listed on that site could be wrong. at first I thought that "cogito ergo doleo" meant something like "consider accordingly, to be pained/greive" - meaning a line that is not to be crossed? Instead it's translated as "I think, therefore I am depressed". I dunno. looking too far into it.

Foily!

i noticed that oceanic-airlines.com is considered official but out of game.
when i checked it today i saw some text behind the 'Important Annoucement'

"If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents."

After viewing the source the name associated with the text said 'sally'

hidden text on oceanic-air.com

I remember that text being there a long time ago, maybe from the beginning when the site first went live. (Using Search now to find the thread(s) where we've discussed this before. See below.) My feeling is that this was adding 'flavor' to the experience, both for watching the show and playing with the website; it wasn't giving out clues or secret information about the TV show that couldn't be found elsewhere.

But it's a fun site. Maybe i'll track down a link to past discussions, if not on the unforums then on other LOST message boards.

(edit to add): The first hit I get by putting part of that sentence into Google is a
link to an article by the Washington Post back in December 2005 when this was first discovered.

Putting 'oceanic-air' into our Search box takes me back to November 2005 and this thread which is page 7 in the middle of a long and twisted maze of websites, some official and some not so much. (I sometimes wonder if it's time to move that thread out of "news & rumors" and put it into the "Timewasters" forum.)

I'm just starting to learn about ARGs and I've been lurking for about a week here and doing some research before I jump right in. I came to this one because I'm a HUGE Lost fan. I've been embarassed to ask my question, but after digging around I can't find the answer so I thought I'd ask and show my ignorance Embarassed

What is the ultimate object of an ARG, how do you know when your "done", because of the collaborative nature I'm sure it isn't that someone "wins", but is this all working up to one big final discovery?

Again, I feel like a dope for asking such a basic question, but I really couldn't find a good answer to this question in all my searching.

Most ARGs of this nature are just a new form of storytelling. Of course they are done as a form of advertisment as well. The story in most ARGs unfolds at the PMs (Puppet Masters, the ones in control of the game) pace. So, basically, the game will end when the story the PMs want to tell is over.

How does TLE compare with other ARGs?

OK, newbie here, so I guess my question is aimed at the Veteran ARG players out here: I am curious as to how the LOST Experience ARG compares with other/past ARGs.

I was thrilled when I found this ARG universe, and happy I stumbled upon unfiction - I couldn't wait to play. But, I must admit to a bit of disappointment in what we have experienced thus far, and I am having trouble "immersing myself" because of the clues that lead to soft drink and Jeep ads - although I understand the need for the big bucks to fund the slick web design, the flash videos, the art direction, the voice overs and the copy writing.

But, still, I'm being left with a feeling of "Is that all there is?" Am I just expecting too much from this?

I've only played three before this one, so I'm not exactly sure if that qualifies me as being a veteran.
I am actually pretty impressed with the flash layout of the main page. And being someone who has just started experiencing Lost this season, it is a reality I want to find more about. On the subject of marketing, the other three ARGs I've played were all sponsored by a product that was upcoming. ilovebees > Halo 2, The Art of the Heist > Audi A3, and Last Call Poker > Gun. So I understand that a game for an already established tv show that is near the end of its season probably is not going to get the big advertising bucks. So I am perfectly willing to give them a pass for incorporating other product marketing into the game. But as others have noted, it isn't as immersive as one would like when playing an alternate reality game. This combined with other minor mistakes (mispelling, servers failing under heavy traffic, not finding an in-game way to talk players out of hacking voicemail and e-mail) makes me believe that this may be the creators first forey into this type of project. But I am having fun with this, and that is really all that matters. So I will look past the problems and continue playing the game.

Every ARG is different. I can't tell you what to expect from this game. But I do believe there will be alot more to it. So if you are having a good time with it, then stick with it. I think you will be satisfied.

Two questions...

1) Since this is a game, is there a point to it? I mean, is there a way to win this game? Is there a prize? An objective? What exactly qualifies this online "experience" as a game?

2) What does splat mean?

Is there a point and splat...

"The play is the thing"

Whether we "win" or "lose", I'm beginning to find that it's the actual collective problem solving and detection work that makes this ARG (and I suspect other ARGs) most interesting.

As to splat, I think it's a way of entering in a person's email or a domain name without having the entry actually turn into a link. The @ would make it a live link.
