Ok... The Lost Experience is reporting a solution to the press release puzzle, but they've got it wrong and I figured out the correct solution (heh, heh).

If you go to www.thehansofoundation.org you will notice a press release on the first page referencing recent hacking. Clicking on the link there takes you to a .pdf document. Highlighting the .pdf document shows you some hidden text. Copying it gives you a link to this page: http://persephone.thehansofoundation.org

There are a group of numbers there:

106 98 111 32 117 98 115 32 114 115 110 102 32 102 118 32 102 118 101 71 32 49 32 108 110 90 32 116 117 98 46 83 69 71 32 103 110 32 111 118 32 116 98 73

Decoding these by ASCII code gives you the following (I've used [] to indicate what is coded as a block, or 32, in ASCII; also the last letter in the code, part of the "tbI" is a capital "i" not a lower-case "L"):

jbo[]ubs[]rsnf[]fv[]fveG[]1[]lnZ[]tuvFSEG[]gn[]ov[]tbI

Decoding this by ROT-13 gives you:
wob hof efas is sirT 6 yaM ghoSFRT ta ib goV

reversing it gives you:
Vog ib at TRFSohg May 6 Tris is safe foh bow

subsitituting L for V, B for N and H for R gives you:
Log in at THFSorg May 6 This is safe for now

The lost experience is reporting a link to the site thf.org and a date of May 1. I think they messed up, as thf.org is a real site for something else.

Going to THFS.org gives you a suspicious error page with a hansofoundation-esque graphic on it. My suspicion is that something new will pop up there tomorrow, on May 6th. We also may want to make note of the letters they are using to substitue (L/V, B/N, and H/R)... could lead to something else later. Perhaps the error graphic there bears some further investigation as well.

You got it wrong, it's not THFSorg, it's THF.org

I've seen that 404 graphic before. Don't think it's anything special, at least not yet, anyways. But I like that better than the May 1st thing. Confused

Not quite

passenger 23 B,

You almost got it, but the 46 is a "." not a capital F which would be the number "70". I think you looked at the hex value 46 instead of decimal.

Sorry!

Also, I don't know how you got May 6.

Sorry, you got confused. 46 is a '.' not an F. You mixed up hex and decimal.

Not so fast...how do you rotate 1 thirteen times to get 6? Even in ASCII the digits are in consecutive order. And where did the S come from? The 46 in the original code is a period, not a capital F.

anyone having to log in a second time?

Hi, newbie here, so go easy please. It's my first time.

This isn't as vital as it was before Passenger 238's astonishing crack (WOW!) but I had an odd experience at the hanson site wondering if it's happened to anyone else.

Since getting past persephone the first time with the first password, it just said Welcome Back/No New Messages whenever I returned to the newsletter page.

After following all the press release links and a few others, that somehow reset. It went back to "can you read this" and I had to enter the password again. It went back to saying Last login unknown, Welcome to Dharma, etc.

When I saw the "mayday" idea above, I thought maybe it had been a chance to enter a different password at that level, and get a new tree, and I'd blown it. So I tried a different browser that wouldn't have any cookie/flash cookie trail and tried mayday. Obviously irrelevant anyway if May 1 isn't correct, but I'm curious if the reset was just a fluke or if anyone else is finding they have to "log back in"

I saw someone mention that it might be "May 14" instead of "May 1".

I'm not sure how to solve stuff like this, but is that a possibility?

I've seen that 404 before. I don't remember where, but it's not in-game. It's probably just a placeholder that a hosting company uses.

Anyway, the login at the botton of the hanso site...it used to time out if you tried to put something there, not it says invalid user...that has to be related...

A fluke? Depends on your definition. Did you originally type in www.thehansofoundation.org, leave, and then type in just thehansofoundation.org? If so, everything was stored as if it were two separate sites, I think. There are a lot of different reasons why something could reset.

May 14 could be a possibility if only because if everything else is rotated by 13 letters, then it makes sense that the 1 could be rotated by 13 numbers.

Seems like a long time to wait for an update though.

Thank you. I'm just enough of a technoidiot I can never distinguish strange-meaningless from strange-might-be-something.

Unrelated thought: Possible misdirection. We're all focusing on the intriguing "login at..." and sort of ignoring This is safe for now

This = safe? or T=S, H=A, etc. substitutions somewhere?

No problem cat.

Good idea on the message, taking the "This is safe" literally. I've seen that done before. I don't know if T=S H=A I=F S=E would work because then T=E. Smile

I agree .. which leads me to believe it has something to do with may 14th to login as it would have been active all along if it was may 1st.. kind of deflating if you ask me .. question is .. what is the username..? "persephone?"
