[UPDATE] Path of Least Time 7th May

She wasn't in the boat. Coast Guard rendezvoused with the cruiser earlier today, and there was no-one inside; she'd set it on automatic pilot. Violet was here when the news came in, and I think even she was surprised by the stream of swearing that I made. I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that Miranda is constantly outsmarting me. I feel terrible about lying to everyone, and while I appreciate your support, I don't deserve it.

They're treating my burns here in the hospital, but they say should be able to go home next week. There was some talk about arranging a psychologist to visit me in case I get any post-traumatic stress, but I told them to get lost - I'm too busy for that. Obviously I still have my key, and I've been working hard on creating a new system for tracking Miranda down. The notifications I get from Missing Persons are useful, but they're clearly not going to be enough to pinpoint her location, especially given that she'll be on the lookout. To find her, I'm going to have to do something much trickier - I'm going to have to do a global search for her. Not in the physical sense, but as in 'all available information sources'.

The global search is going to look everywhere for patterns that match Miranda; it'll look at key transactions, passenger lists, city noise-monitoring microphones, surveillance cameras in public places. When it finds them, it'll plot their location as accurately as it can. All of this is going to require a huge amount of computing power, and because I don't want to draw too much attention to what I'm doing, I'm going to just use my own resources. Consequently, it won't return results very often and they won't all be that useful, because she won't be using her name and she's probably changed her appearance.

I can't say that this will succeed, but I need to be doing something. Everything seems to be completely out of control, and I've got to get a grip on it. I can't handle much more of this

if it weren't for the fact that we've already gotten everyone possible involved in cracking 13thlabour, I'd recommend somehow lending our combined computing power to Kurt. oh well.

I've literally just sent an email to kurt suggesting that any cube hunters that could would be willing to contribute to a similar scheme if it were possible Very Happy

I really think that's the last we will see of Miranda... Kurt might come close to finding her again but she's too smart to get caught...

I hope Kurt doesn't become too obsessed with trying to find her if he's getting nowhere though, mind you, I couldn't blame him!!

Much as I hate to say it when 13th labour is making such progress... but the card'll still be around in a week or two - Miranda might not be. I'd rather put off munching 13th labour stuff and find her (partially because I don't actually have the card yet. Wink).

Tell us if he replies, Ted?

Besides scouring the Marathon site for her registration details, is there any other potential paper trail that Miranda may have left? She's hired a boat and two apartments recently; perhaps they might have aliases and suchlike?

Also, unless she had another reserve cached away somewhere, she may still be without a key (how easy is it to acquire a new one?), which would make her potentially stand out from the crowd...

With the omnipresence of cellphones in our world, and given the fact that a key is like a cellphone to the ninth power, I should think that it would be ridiculously easy to get a new key. Maybe not quite Starbucks-easy, but maybe close. I'm betting Miranda's got a new one by now, either through buying it (she might not have to take public transportation to get to a key store) or through allies (maybe the locker Violet cleared out was only one of a few?)

She certainly didn't need her 'map' to find the locket Violet found unless she had a couple of copies (and you just wouldn't would you) so how many locations and codes could she memorise (she mustn't have the 'maps' to any more or she would have gone to them before the one Violet found)... certainly more than one when you're talking about a lifeline, so I'm positive she will have a new key... poor kurt, he's really got his work cut out for him...

Almost certain she will have a new key by now. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that many young people buy throw away keys for going out .etc. (so they don't wreck their nice pretty shiny key by dropping it down the loo/spilling their cosmopolitan on it/leaving it at the bar/throwing up on it) so I think it would be pretty easy for her to pick up a new one.
Definitely think that we'll be roped into the global search thing, not that I mind though, anything to bring that evil wench to justice!
