An observation about the a* files...I'll spoilerize it just in case...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Since they are used to make the map (or grid or whatever it is) I took a look at that and realized that it only takes 15 images to create any variation of the map. 4 corners, one for each of the 4 sides, 2 horizontal pieces (one open and one closed), 2 vertical pieces (again open and closed), a crossed piece, a blank square, and the flashing dot. However, there are 16 images in the directory due to a repeated image namely ai.gif and ao.gif, which is the piece that makes up the bottom boundary. So, I don't know if that's what we are supposed to find or not, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Everyone is doing it well
Hence record ensured
Done without broken counts
If you hoping of some hint to find him, these must look past skin deep
Smash each five px, you shall all find it

[spec] I think 'broken counts' refers to not letting the counter run down without inputting the key sequence. As for smashing, maybe the keys aren't for moving, but will 'break' a door. I haven't decomped the little images yet, but they appear to be on 5pixel sizes. [/spec]

The ai.gif and ao.gif is exactly the same, but for some reason he uses ao.gif for the (broken) map... though this might just mean that he forgot that he already had ai.gif.

Some boring/nonsense things (hosting company):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Apparantly the site is hosted at http://hsphere.cc/ which is owned by http://vortechhosting.com/ and apparantly they have some network monitoring system at http://nagios.hsphere.cc/ which is open to all with the password and login as guest.
For .cc whois http://www.forpsi.com/domain/whois.php

Also somebody has registered http://www.xccr.org and http://www.xccr.net , but they are using "protectfly" so I don't know who it is. http://www.registerfly.com/protectfly/index.php

Brought here by curiosity and google.

Nice work folks. Here's my idea(i don't think it's been mentioned):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Perhaps the smash the pixels line means something to the effect of removing pixels from the images. Remove every 5th pixel, remove every 5 pixels, or something like that. Someone with more ability than me at manipulating images should have a go at massaging those images somehow.

RSS feed

Any ideas about the RSS feed?

Name: ХССГ :: xccr
Feed Location: http://xccr.com/rss_227664.aspx
Description: Please help push the buttons before the time runs out.

One thing I notice - the rss feed has 227664 in it, the number from the slashdot link that seems to return keys a lot (hasn't been working recently for me).

Also, there is always (that I have looked) one link in the feed, to http://xccr.com/index.aspx with a name that is 4 digits. For example, right now the name is 5661

I feel like that number might be important?

Corey

You have to wait 10min between each 227664 insert.
And the 4 digits is the time remaining, in seconds, until the timer reaches zero.

leftstatus decreasing

Also, the 'leftstatus', the decimal in the top left, has been dropping pretty rapidly...I assume becuase a lot of people are entering 227664 and entering that no longer gives keys, just lowers the decimal...

I saw it up at 4.15 and now it is at 3.00

RSS Feed numbers

I have been watching the RSS feed...some "titles" from the "articles" in the feed, in sequential order earliest to latest (always only one article in the feed):

5661
5521
5891
5917

I will try to keep writing these down and post in 30 mins or so.

The RSS feed updates about once every 30 minutes.
The number in the title is how many seconds until the timer reaches zero.

For instance, if the RSS feed pops up 5399, then there is 89:59 left on the timer; 5999 is 99:59, etc...

If you ever see the RSS < 5000, then someone should probably go enter the code.

[Edit: Whoops, it looks like guset answered this a few posts above]

This morning, foundme posted a comment on slashdot with his "Please stop entering code 2,2,7,6,6,4 [xccr.com]" sig. I'm willing to bet the reason that the counter dropped from around 4.80 to 3.00 is due to a lot of people seeing that and giving it a shot.

Hopefully that might bring a surge of visits to this forum.

RSS feed is updating about once every 5 minutes, not once every 30. You just have your feed reader autoupdating every 30 mins. If you manually reload it, you'll see that it updates sooner.

But yes, thank you for clearing up my stupidity, those numbers seem to be related to when someone last entered 227664
