On Guset's spec (to which I started this reply almost immediately, but got hung up by that pesky thing called 'work') -- maybe the 5px reference just means that the larger broken images (e.g. i0.gif and i1.gif) are just interlaced with 5px wide stripes. This is something we already know, but the PMs don't necessarily know that we know (if you know what I mean Smile )

Huh. Maybe that changed somewhat recently. When I first started pounding on the RSS a week ago (checking every few minutes), I only saw about two updates an hour.

Anyway, the fact that there is even an RSS feed at all is pretty cool. It is a good way of monitoring if the timer is being neglected.

What rules apply to "tengah" to produce a change?
At the moment it is "i" and Google's cache from 5/7 has "L".
Was it truly IP related or just specific to the key entries?

EDIT:
NM: I'm starting to catch on. I've been lost on this one since you guys started and haven't been able to make any real sense of what it was you were doing.

EDIT2:
I wish I could get it to do what it did for me the other night.
My first entry was 14159265 and the 20 "buckets that normally have onlt either keys or digits had image placeholders, in numerous positions throughout the lines (I'd say around 50 of them in total). I'll just keep entering 227664 every 15 minutes for now.

The problem isnt the other forum, it is that foundme, the supposed mastermind behind this, posted a link to xccr (and the code) on slashdot, which receives a fairly large amount of traffic.

Also, the 'leftstatus', the decimal in the top left, has been dropping pretty rapidly...I assume becuase a lot of people are entering 227664 and entering that no longer gives keys, just lowers the decimal...

I saw it up at 4.15 and now it is at 3.00
Are you sure? I just entered it and I got 2 keys, the map and the number increased.
Maybe the waiting time has just increased or something, because everytime I enter it with a different IP I get at least map + point increase and sometimes keys.

I wonder if the "server" he is talking about might acctually be xccr.com and there are other similar servers out there. Probably not, but I find the thought interesting.

It was speculated earlier that it was a position (just use Windows calc to convert to decimal numbers) on that grid, and that the keys can be used to move you north, south east, or west on it. Various postings about the proposed map are on page 2. I've noticed that the RSS for tengah and what shows up on the web are often not in synch, though.

Incidentally, tengah and kiri are center and left in indonesian, so nothing exciting there, since that's the position they show up on the webpage.

BTW, I think I know what ХССГ stands for -- Christian Social Union of Georgia. it's a political party. Thank-you Google! not that that sheds any light on anything.

Okay, a wayward strategy plan:

We break the count.

At the end of the day, the game's hardly launched yet: it can't just end if we get the counter down to zero (I'm talking about the left hand one, which drops every time someone enters the code). I have this distinct feeling that nothing's going to *happen* until the counter is broken. It might actually force the story somewhere?

I dont think that's up to us. There are a ton of people entering the code besides us on this forum.

Remember progress.txt?
Perhaps we've reached some sort of "save point" and now that we're working on the third of the images the decimal counter to the left wont go below 3.00?
Code:
Image|?| Save# |Solved|Date of Posting |Forum|UserID
Code:
i0   [1]   1.00   Y   18-May-2006 08:42   U   10364
i1   [1]   2.00   Y   23-May-2006 01:52   U   10364
i2   [1]   3.00   n   22-May-2006 15:41   U   10014
I do kinda recall it was often in the < 1.00 back before i0 was officially "solved". Maybe this is some sort of way to keep the game going even if more people keep pounding it with the code.

True, I didn't think about that! So any ideas about the animation then?

Probably waste of space, but anyway:

One thing I didn't think about imidiatly is that "look past skin deep" means too look beyond the visible, ie see a person for what he is not what he looks like.
If the above is obvious I blame it on english not being my native language Smile.
So that line would probably just mean what everyone knows, that there is something hidden in the image.[/spec]

Actually, it's reading like it was written by someone whose native language isn't english, which between the Cyrillic letters in the title and the indonesian words in the RSS and the registration for the site, shouldn't be surprising... but then again, maybe it means that there is a message embedded in there, and words had to be written around it (such as using "some hint" instead of "a hint" or "some hints", but using a word like "hence" in the second frame, or as you mentioned, the phrase " past skin deep" instead of just "closely").

I also am having a hard time figuring out how anything could be encoded at the pixel level on 7 small images, that only have 2 colors. A rearrangement of letters seems more likely to me -- but it would be hard to tell, unless the pattern was simple and the sequence was plain text. If there's a message embedded within those characters that's even just ROT13 encoded, it would be difficult to pick up on. And, even if there's no message, a complex enough technique could probably render something that came out sensible, but was unintended and just a coincidence that it was there.
