Ok, I think I've got more figured out.
The box doesn't contain pluses. Its a 10x10 grid of rooms. The pluses are the corner walls. It appears to be revealing more of the grid as we go. The rooms are numbered like this:

The binary number at the top translates into the room we are currently in. When you enter the code (227664) it gives you some keys, when you hit a number you will move in the direction you choose. For example, I just did it, before I started the binary was 00111000 (56). I entered the code, then hit 2 (East). Now the binary reads 01000010 (66). So, I moved 1 square east from 56 to 66. The interesting thing here is that the binary position appears to be global! I had the page open on 2 computers (different IP addresses), I made the move on one computer, then reloaded the page on the other computer and the binary had changed!

So, I'd guess that we have to navigate "us" to a specific spot on the map (the "checkpoint"). No idea where that might be though. Smile

I like your analysis, but, but, but...

the binary numbers have been changing all along and I've never gotten the keys (yet). So that would mean that others are moving our position in the grid. But the binary has changed even when I've clearly been the only one inputting at that time (by evidence of the running string of input numbers being all mine, which is not always the case).

Also the 227664 box is not true binary 56, but rather binary coded decimal encoded -- i.e. 0101 0110 (space mine) -- unless the binary that you got was different than mine.

Update -- finally got a key (just #1). Waited a bit and entered 1. Key disappeared, but box stayed up and the binary stayed the same.

the number e without the decimal: 27182818 got me an empty box.
Edit: as did 143584, A recent UPS invoice number I used...

after some snooping around, i found this....Smappley?

also,,,here is a little template and a trail that i have been taking...if it is truly global then the binary should read "00100011" for you guys as well. I can only make a move every 10 minutes..but maybe by working together we can move a lot faster. I say we try and make it to 100...if that doesnt work maybe we need to press all the buttons. if you google "xccr" the caption for the site is "Please help push the buttons before the time runs out" so maybe we just need to press all of them? anyways,,,whenever you make a move it would be sweet if you updated the "map" so we can see our progress of what buttons have been pressed and all that.

ALSO if you look at foundme's friend list at slashdot, he has one friend. "blackwater" whose number is "227664"...the same number mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

The binary number is not global. Some sort of yet-undetermined division exists between IP blocks. The binary number can be the same for people in certain subnets all the way up to nnn.nnn.* (as found by myself and friends at school), but you can also have two machines with different IP addresses in different subnets, e.g. 123.123.123.1 and 123.123.123.2, who see different binary numbers (and scores and timers). We haven't yet figured out how arbitrary this is, or if it's perhaps (this is our best guess) related to IP block ownership. We haven't really tried either, since it allows someone with a different binary number/score/timer to play around on their own without intervention from someone else. The division is probably directly related to the "server" hint in readme.txt.

BTW, my current number is 01001011. I've gone from 100 to 0 and I'm meandering back to 100 now. Nothing exciting so far.

Strange:
Since I am at work, I downloaded the page and opened it in notepad. I took the IP I found and encoded the first octet into octal:

138 -> 061063070

Then I removed the first zero to make it eight characters and tried it out.

I got an empty box for my efforts.

EDIT: Seems another oddity has shown itself. When I let the counter fully run down, it not only started over at 87 minutes and change instead of 99, but the 'room' I was in went up one as well. 01100000 to 01100001.

EDIT2: New info: During the final minute I entered 227664 and was rewarded with a set of keys. I chose key 4, but the binary 'room' didn't advance. After checking the grid, I found there to be more '+' signs. From my last count of 23 to 25.

EDIT3: A few more '+' signs and a question. I've only seen it twice, but occationally a small white square will appear on the grid when you enter 227664. Earlier today it was at 36 on the grid, and just a few minutes ago it had moved to 91. Not sure what it means, could just be the crappy IE here at work.

Alright, now that I am home and have a moment to lay out what I have seen today....

First, I'm not entirely sure that the numbering on the previously submitted grid is right. I set up one in reference to my own ideas, and I'll attach it below. I say this because just a few minutes ago I was on room 81, got a set of keys (only three, don't remember the missing direction), used #2 (right), and ended up in room 90.
Second, may I draw your attention to the title of the site, specifically the first version of 'xccr'. That is not what it appears to be. I don't really know what to make of it, but notepad see's it as you do, but it's binary is different from the letters they look like. It's ASCII code, when entered as alt+whatever in notepad, comes out to be something completely different as well. The binary code for each character is as follows:
1101 0101
1101 0001
1101 0001
1100 0011
Notice how these characters look different in notepad's native Lucida Console, and your OS' native font.
And finally, the strange white squares I've seen seem to line up perfectly with the center of a 'cell' on the grid. I've left the one's I've seen in the version I've attached with the most recent in white and the others in cyan. I'm not sure what they mean, but they appear regardless of whether you entered a good code or not.

EDIT: It appears that I am wrong about the numbering. Both sets of keys I got this morning lead to the predictable cells. My only explanation is that I am not the only one to get a set at a given time. I have also noticed that the decimal number goes up as the number of '+' signs climb.

Hey, new to this junk, saw an article in PCG regarding PXC, lead me here, etc. Anyways.

Anyone gotten anything out of the RSS feed?

Don't know if anyone else has found this out.

Today things are different. When you type in 227664 you now get:
