[NEW]

I just put in my 227664 with only 2:55 remaining, and amongst the usual collection of numbers got 5 broken images -- their file names were dHgif, dE.gif, dL.gif, L.gif, and dO.gif. They definitely have not shown up in the /images directory yet, but apparently it was trying to say HELLO to me. My "map" has been almost empty since this morning (just a few lines in the upper left) and I didn't get any keys this time.

"inspired by Lost" might be a good way of putting this. The Lost thing needed to be entered in every 108 minutes (another significant number in the series), not 99. Also, Foundme is clearly not the result of astroturfing by ABC, the way that the Lost Experience sites are -- his slashdot ID indicates he's been around since before the series started, and he has a long history of pretty cogent posts there. So unless he's an ABC employee giving us a hint before the rest of the Lost Experience

They were supposed to be in the /images directory. That's why they were broken.

As I'm sure you've noticed, the title says &#1061&#1057&#1057&#1043 :: xccr. The first four are Cyrillic characters. The last one actually doesn't translate to an R -- it's a ge, decended from the Greek gamma, which is either a hard G or a hard C in english. If they wanted an R it should be Er, the one that comes from Greek rho, which looks like a P. the middle ones (called an Es) come from Greek sigmas, and are sort of like the c in center. the first one decends from the greek letter chi, just like our X.

Googling for those characters gives xccr as the #1 site, followed by a bunch of Russian gaming sites, which all deal with Half-Life 2. from what I can tell from the Babelfish translation (which I wouldn't put much stock in, since it's translating Half-Life 2 as Half-Bodice 2) that it's seen in that game, perhaps on a poster, perhaps advertising a hotel in Georgia (the country, not the American state.) Apparently both Kha Es Es Ge and Kha Es Es Er are seen there. Someone who can actually read Russian would be needed to confirm that, though.

Sorry about that, was just playing around with some simple javascripts ^^.
Anyway, there seems to be pictures for dots, but you can't acctually enter them normaly?

Well it's possbile that the 4 of 42 could be used for the 4

I love Lost, I watch it every week (I missed last week, though, don't tell me anything!!!) and this does not give off an authentic Lost feel, for one, the computer from lost is ancient, it hardly looks like the site xccr site, though I guess it's possible that it's an "inspired by" deal, though I'm pretty sure it's non-related

As far as the 'teams' business is concerned, take a look at http://xccr.com/jafa/keys.js

Specifically, look at the SubmitNow() function and the call it makes to KEYS.SubmitKeys. See the second argument? For me it's a constant "1". Inspecting http://xccr.com/ajax/PUSH.KEYS,PUSH_KEYS.ashx will show that the second formal parameter is called 'team' and ends up being submitted in the XmlHttpRequest.

So, conclusion? Unless anyone has a different number showing up in keys.js (which is possible - it could be server-side generated js) then there's strong (not altogether conclusive) evidence that we're in team 1.

I'm still not so sure. The console, the timer, the phrase "Are You Him?" ... all of these roads lead to Lost.

Incidentally, I just got a key again, for the first time since the first day. Number 2. Dunno if this is relevant.

Anyone here who's good at JavaScripts and would like to explain how it's suposed to work?
As far as I can see by looking at the code, the requirement to use a key is that the textbox contains 8 vertical bars (||||||||) and then it will go in the direction you press (1, 2, 3 or 4), is this correct?
After that I'm kinda lost.
Btw, I entered through sos-dan and got team=1 too.

First, index.aspx calls setS(), which sets the timer at the top right to the server-side decided value. It also calls repeater(), which simply decrements the timer and checks if it's run out (in which case the page is reloaded).

When you type a key ShortKey() is called. If there are more than eight keys already pressed then ShortKey() does nothing. Otherwise, if you pressed enter and one or more keys have been entered it calls SubmitNow(). If you pressed one of the number keys it adds the number to the end of PUSH.TextBox_Numbers.value. If PUSH.TextBox_Numbers.value (the value of the TextBox_Numbers textbox) is equal to "||||||||" then ShortKey() will only accept the numbers 1, 2, 3 or 4 and call GoNow() with one of these as a parameter.

SubmitNow() is the next thing to consider. It takes the values of TextBox_Numbers, TextBox_IP (this is a hidden form variable) and the constant "1" (for team) and passes them to SubmitKeys(), which simply sends them off to the server in ajax.

The callback function from submitting the keys is interesting. The value of the response is split into an array, which then determines which responses you get from the key. The contents of the 'wft', 'statsleft' and 'mana' elements are loaded from this response array. The response array also has the ability to redirect the page (with window.location), and change the value of TextBox_Numbers to ||||||||, enabling the GoNow() functionality.

GoNow calls UpdateMove which, like SubmitKeys(), simply does a bit of ajax. GoNow() submits the number (1-4) you entered and the TextBox_IP field. The callback again loads some elements ('statsmid', 'wtf') from the response and clears other elements ('Nombor','mana', TextBox_Numbers).

And that's pretty much it for the main functionality of the site. If you're looking for a way to get keys by using '||||||||' somehow, forget it. It's much, much easier to just simulate the ajax request from GoNow(). Of course, that goes against the spirit of it I think - you're supposed to get keys when and only when they're given to you.

Shouldn't you just be able to change the Numbers with
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
javascript:void(document.forms[0].TextBox_Numbers.value="||||||||")

Also big thanks for that great "tutorial"! Smile

Btw, the site just asked me for a login (like with ftp), has this happened to anyone else?

There is a progress.txt in that images directory now!
http://www.xccr.com/images/progress.txt
Quote:

i0 [1] 1.00 Y 18-May-2006 08:42 U 10364
i1 [1] 2.00 N
i2 [1] 3.00 N

Hm, could this mean that the images are the "checkpoints" mentioned in readme.txt? If so, why is i0 a yes, but not i1? Nobody seems to have figured out what "smash every 5px" means, so it doesn't surprise me that i2 is a no. then again, maybe it means that i0's "every 5 px" has been "smashed".

I did try checking i0 for steg, nothing, but I may have been using the wrong program. There seem to be a lot more out there for jpegs than for gifs. It seems highly unlikely to me that there's be steg in 5X5 images -- you could only get maybe 3 characters apiece crammed into one, and that's without a password.

We are assuming that 5 PX means pixels, and that we ought to be looking at images. Could it mean somthing else? maybe we're back to the Cyrillic thing, and that's actually an Er and a Kha.

Also, I don't suppose you got a location on where the image for that login was located, or anything else from the HTML source, guset? It sure hasn't happened to me. Sounds like major progress. Did you do anything special to make it happen? can you replicate it?

Also, should we cross-post some of this to the Lost Experience forum, and see if anyone playing that has a take on it?

Please, no. I closed a thread in that forum about this game earlier today. If people want to take a look at this, they'll find it.
