Film contest progress So how much progress has everyone made on their film? I'm hoping we get a lot of entries, I'm sure they're all going to be great. I can't wait to see what we all come up with.

Fishing for ideas?
I can confirm that we've got a script, a total camera d00d, a place, a cast, and a time.
Not saying any more than that though

I have the place and the idea hammered out, just need to critique and finish a script. The only thing that concerns me is the time limit for the entires. 30-90 seconds isnt a lot of time, so the entries have to be short, sweet, and make an impression.

I've cobbled together my half-baked effort. Unless I decide that I don't like it and want to start again! At the moment, I think I'm done with it.

Ahhh, shoes. Quite possibly my favorite thing next to Spike, opening new packs of cards, DDR and karaoke.
I have a script too, but haven't finished the storyboard yet. I'm debating switching a few things around for better impact, but might just do it all three ways in post to see which way I like it better.
I just wish it wasn't this week I was filming. Since they're filming the show, I can't use the good digital stuff or bat my eyes until they let me borrow the good lighting stuff.
Any takers on a bet of how many make it up in time? I'm gonna go for 26.

Now hang on a minute, you work in tv? That's got to be cheating
What do you do? I'm just trying to get started (done some running, some production assisting, etc, but ultimately want to make childrens' drama), so I'm always interested to meet someone in the industry.

Work in the industry? No, not really.
I've won some screenplay contests and done some indie stuff, but that's the extent of it. I'm involved in a TV pilot we're doing locally to pitch to Sci-Fi, though. You might want to check if you have a local filmmaking group to get involved with. I've met several people in the industry that way, actually. I'm part of a production group called Thought Collide, which also encompasses Living For Sundance. The TV series is called inZer0. Feel free to check it out .
If you tell me whereabouts you live, I'll see if I can find a group local to you. PM me if you want!

I'm a bit confused/concerned about the way the best film will be decided. This is apparently to be film with the most views after two weeks.
a) I will probably view every film, if there aren't too many - you can't tell if a film is good or bad until you've seen it! The number of views would therefore not normally be a test of how good a film was.
b) What's to stop someone repeatedly viewing their own film every few minutes for two weeks? Will it only count views from different IP addresses? Even then there are ways round that if you have dynamic addressing.
Instead, how about allowing each Perplex City user to rate each film. Wouldn't that be fairer?

I agree, it is a bit odd, and could rapidly degenerate to a contest of who can persuade the most people to watch their film. Like when mugglenet appeals to all its readers to vote for Harry Potter in any given poll, these things often come down to sheer weight of internet contacts, rather than artistic merit. Which I say with love, and no offense intended to mugglenet or Harry.
Fiera, that trailer looks really pretty good - a hell of a lot better than the stuff my local film group produce. I'm guessing you must have found some money from somewhere, because you see to have a) a much better camera and b) better lighting than we manage.

Am enlisting help of sister and her entire class of students from the Stark Program in USC...
Little background...
Accepts only 15 people a year.
95% of students end up working in the industry
Summer placements include working for MGM, Sony, Disney etc etc.
First year projects... make films... including sound engineering, set dressing etc...
Now I just need to be able to coordinate them from the UK... stupid Los Angeles location...

I think this is a Mind Candy advertising scheme (not meant in a bad way). If perplexcity players voted for the best, it wouldn't get other people looking at them. With 'most views' as the criteria, it will definitely be a contest of how well we can promote our own films. It'll get the word out to people who haven't heard of PXC. And if people want to watch their own film every two minutes for two weeks - all the better. It'll be listed as one of the most viewed films on the site that hosts it and will be another way of promoting PXC. I can't blame them for their approach, but I also won't hold Mind Candy's "winner" in high regard.
What we should, and most likely will, do is have a poll section here on the Unforums. The fan picked winner - that's who'll matter to me.
To answer the main topic here, I have an idea for an entry, but not the time/setup to make it. One of UKver2.0 just sold all his nice equipment , one just had an operation, and me, I'm way too busy. I may work up something crude just to get my idea out there though.
Can't wait to see all the films.

Indie filmmaking in Detroit just rocks. Actually, the local community is very good about pooling resources.
And I think that this is definitely a marketing tool for Mind Candy. Viral marketing is what we've been doing all along, this is just a more ... visual way of doing it.
