Been a bit quiet in here today. Do things normally progress this slowly?

Quietest couple of days so far. Most thread action seems to have been speculation, humour and meta/OOG stuff. Hopefully there's another update soon.

Just think how many gallons of Sprite all the Lost fans would have consumed if they had been a little more inventive with their co-branding.

ok here we go i think this will better explain. Yes when lost is on television it is fine to put commercials in between the show but the way this arg is happening is the equivlant of having the lost show take place and a random character with a sprite costume dancing in front of the characters.

The reason why this discussion is taking place is the idea of helping to influence and not to sit and just take things the way they are. So I guess this is actually being read and that is good. If you sit and be silent than you are just approving of what is taking place that is my personal view on the whole matter.

I agree, and also, I like the fact that we have an intelligent discussion about it (which is what I've come to expect from UF, anyway, so mad propz, yo Smile ) rather than complaining about how stupid it is, how annoying it is and ZOMG they're bad for it.

'Cause we complain, but we still play Smile

Not neccessarily. Some of us watch without commercials.

Yes there is; it's called Bit Torrent.

They ask for a donation - you may have it free, but someone has to pay!

the bit torrent thing is just plain stealing and fast forwarding commercials on tivo is like going to the bathroom. They are there but you choose not to see them, perhaps catching the show when it gets back onto the air. Getting back to the sprite discussion. I hope those that have said just don't play now understand better the whole idea of everything going on.

I just want to add i have no problem sprite funding this game. I am glad sprite is willing to help out in all this. I am not happy in the way sprite was utilized. Once again it seems monster.com is the one that is escaping causing me and others to look at that site more than I ever expected to looking for information.

The same goes with borders, amazon.com, and even barnes and nobles. i have been searching through those sites and made them part of my daily searching. Sprite on the other hand is the loser in all of this. i have no reason to think about sprite. There is nothing appealing about sprite.

I do want to say that I applaud sprite for its support of an arg. But am not happy at the way they ended up being marketed as if they know its only a game and does not let us get drawn into the alternative reality we are all here for.

I would like to hear if others that have said don't play the game still feel the same way or if they now understand the point of view that is being exposed at this moment.

Moved from a thread where noone seemed to care. There's an XML file on the sublymonal site that's either an oversight by the developer or an underhanded ad for Rise of nations: Rise of Legends. Now I'm sure the folks at Coca-Cola wouldn't be too happy with MS squatting in the shadows... so I'll give 'em a pass due to laziness (developer, not MS, they'll never get a pass). But come on, they know we'll be kicking the tires and they do something sloppy like leave a stub file in that just happens to link to a slew of ROL stuff ? Could be a signature of 42 ent.

check it:
http://www.sublymonal.com/xml/teaser.xml

thoughts?

I can accept an aid overtly for Sprite. I can't really accept a truly hidden find within said "ad" for a third party, especially not Microsoft.

I didn't understand this post so I asked about it in chat. It seems that the reason I didn't understand it is because the file has been changed to read "you are being watched." hahahahahahaha

I've got to say that bittorrent is not stealing...i pay my tv license fee so shouldn't i be able to watch tv programs when i want to...it's the same as taping them from the tv and lending it to your friends....bittorrent is a community and though can be abused by some it is definatly NOT stealing....

And now, we can put the Sprite in the drink holder of our new Jeep! What is this, the Sponsor of the Month Club?

I don't understand why ABC would need to pull in all these co-sponsors to fund this project. Maybe they are planning a super expensive game?

Maybe part of the deal was that the tv creators REALLY wanted to do this game, but ABC said "look, we aren't paying for it, because you already have X amount of viewers, and the game can't possibly bring in much more... so find a way to incorporate out corpoate sponsors" who knows. At times it can be a bit intrusive, on the other hand we are getting our main clues from tv commercials in between a tv show we watch about people basically being tortured from the same company we are supposed to be researching as alternate reality... the lines just need to blur a little harder this game.

{{{as for bit torrent, ABC would consider it stealing, especially since they offer the last cpuple episodes fro free on thier website because of the commercials they show - I know you have to pay a fee for tv in the UK, but that isn't the case everywhere, in the US we pay for cable, but ABC is not cable, it is free. that being said, i fully support file sharing if it wasn't for file sharing, i would have missed the entire first season of lost}}}
