Back from John's house
I went to John's house as soon as I got off work – early, because I told Larry I was sick..
I marched up to John's apartment door and broke it down. I didn't mean to but I've got a lot of frustration in my towards that boy, he's had me seeing red for a long time and Charles, Charles is like a father to me. I stood there knocking on his door, then pounding, and all I could think about is Charles with a knife in his chest, or a gun wound, or his eyes gouged out like that one picture he showed me: the one showing what the Pennsylvanian Napes do to people encroaching on their territory. He showed all those things to John just as he showed them to me, what if John snapped and got ideas?
I literally saw red then thinking about what might be behind that door and the next thing I knew there was a BANG and the door flew in, I'd kicked it so hard. So, with no time to think at all I charged in expecting to see John and Charles, blood on the floor, or some sort of strange message scrawled all over the walls, or...
But there wasn't anything in there but junk. Junk from John's band, fast-food wrappers, and tons of terrible poetry written out longhand. There was no sign of Charles, no sign of struggle or blood or anything. I tore that place apart looking for something, anything! Nothing. Nothing. Nothing but his phone. I've been calling a phone he doesn't even have with him! And there I was staring down at his stupid phone when I heard someone behind me. They must have heard me break down his door. I didn't have time to think: the police might not help Charles but I bet they'd charge me for breaking and entering, so I grabbed John's phone and the pad of paper it was sitting on and ran like heck. I feel bad that I pushed down the old woman in the door way...
So here I am. John must be taking Charles to wherever his "secrets" are. That idiot is always forgetting things and it looks like I grabbed the notes for his pin number. Maybe if we can figure out the pin we can get a clue as to where they've gone. I bet it will lock me out if I try too many times, so we need to narrow down the possibilities a bit before I try.
I noticed that there seems to be something written on this page under his PIN reminder. I can't make anything out really, but maybe you can so I scanned it in too.
Here's what I get for the PIN.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Either 4510 or 4570.
Full explanation coming soon.

Don't take that as correct, as some parts may be wrong or missing, please try it yourself and see if you can come up with anything different/better

Ok...here's how I came up with my guesses.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First some preliminaries. Notice that there ten different symbols, 9 within the equations and 1 (the diamond) in the PIN, which must correlate to the digits 0-9. Also notice that none of the 9 symbols in the equations can be 0 which means the last number in the PIN must be 0. Lastly, notice that only one equation uses the circle and the "crossed circle" which means we are not going to be able to identify those symbols exactly...but we can narrow the possibilities.
So the key was figuring out the square...then everything else fell into place. From the first equation, the square must be either 1, 2, 3, or 4 (anything bigger would yield a two-digit number). It couldn't be 1 because that would make the "slashed square" (now known as "ss") = 2 and that would make the second equation impossible. If the square were 2, that would make "ss" = 4. If "ss" were 4, the only possibility for the second equation would be 1+3 = 4 (or 3+1 = 4) but those can't work with equation four. So, the square can't be 2. Finally, if the square were 4, that would make "ss" = 8 which again eliminates all possibilities for equations two and four. So, the square must be 3. From there everything else fell out from the equations except for the circle and "crossed circle". Those came out with values of 1 or 7.
So, please check my logic and math skills, but this is how I came up with those two numbers in my first post as being the only possibilities. I'm going to go take a nap now.

I agree. Here's a visual breakdown of the PIN symbols:

I hate to throw another possibility out there in case I start to pull on us in the wrong direction, but I see "Sunday M". As in Sunday Meet/Meeting or Sunday Morning. That's just what I see with my eyes.
Also notice that she mentioned the "Napes" in her blog entry. Remember that was something that was hidden on Charles' geocities page...might be somthing to ask her about.

Napes or North American Apes (a name given to the apes by Loren Coleman in the 1960's) Have been reported from the South Eastern and Mid-Western US from at least the 1800's to the present. Other reports speak of similar ape-like animals in specific bottom land swamps. For example Howard Dreeson gave bananas to a chimpanzee that visited him regularly near his home in Oklahoma from 1967 to 1970. During 1979 North Carolina witnesses claimed encounters with Knobby. Napes appear to be a population of Chimpanzee like apes that inhabit the bottom lands and vast network of closed canopy deciduous and mixed forests of the Mississipi Valley and its tributaries. Some are dimly remembered and regional folklore and 20th century reports of Gorillas and Chimps. In 1962, Kenneth J. Manship and Jerry D. Coleman discovered a footprint complete with composed left toe (characteristic of the footprint of a mountain gorilla or chimpanzee) in a dry creek bed near Decatur, Illinois. However, the track was later revealed to have been a hoax perpetrated by either Manship or Dave Nichols. Similar -- but supposedly authentic -- prints have been reported from such diverse locations as Florida, Alabama, and Oklahoma. During the series of the 1971 sightings of 2 Chimpanzee like apes, termed skunk apes in some press accounts. A Broward County, Florida, rabies control officer said to have found nothing but a bunch of strange tracks like someone was walking on their knuckles. Of course this is far from nothing knuckle walking is exactly what would be expected of an unknown Anthropoid Ape.

Hmm. I don't think any of the usual delivery services deliver on Sunday nights. Whoever is making the delivery might know John, or know enough about him to know he's not a woman! So we need to be careful what we ask Sue to do.
I think it's possible that John won't be there.
So if John's there, Sue can either confront him, or just spy on him, and hope he leads her to Charles.
If John doesn't show up, she could try to get the delivery person to trust her with the package, maybe by posing as his girlfriend or something, if she doesn't think it's too dangerous.
