[UPDATE] Sentinel - 11 May 06 - Beauty Alliance

Quote:

Beauty Alliance Unveils Spring Project
By GARIMA KING

Beauty Alliance, the art consortium led by Randal Tokei, has revealed its spring project, called 'Dreamer's Path.' Artists associated with the alliance swept through the streets of the business district late last night, blazoning the sidewalks with words and images. The phrases are carefully constructed to tell a story, traversable from multiple directions, Tokei said. "The dream will unfold at your feet no matter your origin or destination."

The images have been blazoned in a special polymer that will withstand heavy foot traffic and weather for some months, gradually wearing away in layers to reveal new patterns, but is expected to fade away entirely by September. "It is the nature of a dream to fade from memory," said Tokei, "So of course our project must also fade from view."

Pedestrians in the area seemed largely enchanted with the work this morning. John Vining, proprietor of the Filter coffee shop on Polis Ave., said that it was all his customers could talk about. "Everyone is very excited," he said. "Outside, I see little clusters of people coming together and excitedly discussing their dreams. Nobody can wait to see how it will all change over the summer."

The project is an unprecedented work of street art in scope, though Tokei insists it is "merely a warm-up to get used to working together." The Alliance's founding charter describes a goal of making art that will "endure a thousand years." Alliance member Shoshana Keller agreed with Tokei, and said that the group may well do several smaller-scale projects such as this in order to foster creative trust and a healthy collaborative environment before tackling its thousand-year ambition.

The Office of the Council has said that it did not issue a permit to the Beauty Alliance for the project, and is conducting an internal review to decide if it should initiate action. One junior official inside the office, though, said that it is unlikely that any punitive measures will be taken, due to the impermanent nature of the project.

Scott Rallies Old Town

City Council Leader Camryn Scott today blasted the speed of the Old Town Renewal Committee. "There is a time for careful study and a time for action," she said. "If the Old Town has been so neglected that there can be major gas explosions, the symptoms have to be treated immediately, before more people can be killed or injured."

LETTERS

Quote:
WELL WISHERS

As an open letter to those Perplexians who read The Sentinel with regularity, please allow me to apologize for some of the correspondence arriving these past few weeks from Earth.

You see, it has become a bit of an unofficial competition among some of the Cube Hunters here on Earth to see who can garner the most published letters, while gleefully misrepresenting the general population.

This is not to say that there is anything wrong with EvilGenius, "Jay," and the other Cube Hunters that have written in. In fact, I rather respect them all a lot. However, I feel it is my duty to try to explain the reasons behind such bizarre letters. Mostly their strange tone is due to an odd tendency among many people on Earth: the more attention we get, the stranger we tend to act. This is especially true of people who frequently peruse forums on the Internet, which is, conveniently enough, where most of Earth's cooperative efforts to find and recover the Receda Cube are located.

So, in a nutshell, on behalf of all of us who have yet to lose our minds, I would like to apologize for the extremely odd behavior of those few who already have.
DrKra37, Earth

Ed. Note: This letter has been chosen as the Sentinel's Star Letter of the Week. The author has accordingly received five points on the Perplexcity.com leaderboard, as will future recipients of the Letter of the Week prize.

I and my compatriots on Earth would like to express our sincere condolences to those affected by the explosion that destroyed the Highview Apartments in the Artists' Quarter last week.

I also hope that, should the destruction of the building prove to be anything other than an accident, those responsible for the act are apprehended and brought to face trial post-haste.

If there is anything that we here on Earth can do to assist you with this tragic event, please let us know.
PFC. Peter Walker, Earth

...AND OTHERWISE

I feel I must respond to Laventine Quandry's assertion that we on Earth ought to putting our efforts towards finding your wayward trifle instead of concerning ourselves with nonsense. I would like to point out that searching for this mysterious object, that we know of only from your say so, is, without some evidence to substantiate it's [sic] existence, a task indistinguishable from nonsense itself. It also bears mentioning that our planet is beset with warfare, starvation, poverty, disease, climate change, and a general loosening of moral standards so we rather have our hands full looking out for our own without your adding to things. Honestly, if you people can't manage to look after your baubles it's no concern of ours. We shall find your cube when we are damned good and ready so do quit your mewling.
EvilGenius, Earth

EvilGenius - nice work! Your hard headed analysis deserves another 5 points - there are bigger issues facing the earth at the moment. Also, I think we've finally realised over the last couple of weeks that you just can't trust these Perplexians - look at sweet, innocent, knife wielding Miranda? Kurt's turned into a nutter and Sente and Anna are deeply mysterious - you are right to be sceptical my friend. On the other hand, if Tippy told me that grass wasn't green and people from earth had 5 thumbs I'd believe her at once, even after checking my own thumbs. She is, after all, a total babe is she not? Maybe this is Kurt's problem?

A rational voice in the darkness! Alas, no points for me. DrKra37 took the Star Letter with his sucking up apologist wank Smile I shall have to be content with having a letter published in each of the last 6 weeks . . . I shall be keeping an eye on our Perplexian friends.

Apologist, nothing! I merely wished to throw them all off-guard. That way it will be easier for you to plan our counter-attack for when they all invade... Razz

Verrrrry clever *drums fingers, one hand against the other* I had underestimated you, DrKra37, although I see now your name should have given me hint. I shan't make the same mistake again!

And moving onto things other than the letters...

Looks like Kurt & Violet got a mention in the Sentinel proper. Reckon we could get one of our contacts to let us have the text of this? Is it even important? Dunno

Could it potentially be important in that it might alert Miranda's confederates, working under the assumption that she has some active in the area at present - and that she's not already in contact with them - as to where she is, and that she's being pursued?

I doubt it, Kurt told us what happened.

At the moment, we don't even know who she is working with/for. The most logical bet is that it's the Third Power...but we all know what they tend to do with "security risks".

Alternatives:

*Sente's super sekrit band of excavators out at Viendenbourg
*Working alone (or possibly in conjunction with "the voices in her head")
*Helena Frye's secret "police" - maybe Cymbalisty was 3P instead?
*Team Jazzhands
*T.H.R.U.S.H.
*The Stonecutters
*The Care Bears

I don't take my posting orders from you Wink These forums are big enough for all of us to share, even those of us who are trying to have a little fun playing.

Hey, let's leave EvilGenius use his evil creativity work. At least if he's not a genius, he's definitely evil Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad

EDIT: Perhaps EvilGenius managed to get hold of some of the experimental Miranda's evil insanity cream.

From the last few letters printed, I'd say that he's been smoking it...

...or misread the label and only used it internally.
