[OOG] Shel's Blog (enjoy an alternative viewpoint)

http://shels.devilselbow.net/

Shocked Loads of juicy stuff...

seems like someone (Shel Smythe) is following the mystery too and luckily they live nearby to Aglaura.

Site seems to be quite useful for people to catch up on the latest too

All i was told, via spuds in IRC, was that it was "found via google"...

Wait, how did you find this? Is it IG? They're certainly writing like they're a town resident, at least in the latest post. I've got to go through the archives to be sure.

Nice comment Chippy Razz

I think it is someone playing the ARG writing as if they are a resident solving it, rather than an in game blog.

Dont all the other blogs have comments turned off?

I'm not sure. it seems OOG, but could be an in-game guide leaked to one of us. It could be a kind of story so far? or a mixture of a guide and an in-game observer type thing?

I guess time will tell - worth seeing if its a role playing player, or a friendly character... i wonder if we can email her/im

/me thinks of the audi site www.stolena3.com (link dont work now) as an example of the type of site i mean

Blog

The character lives in Devil's Elbow, but does business with the residents. Only those residents in contact with him know of him... he doesn't seem to know any of the characters in the game at all.

As a player, should one actually identify themselves as the character that they play?

I would say that it's completely up to the player, no should or shouldn't about it, unless it inteferes with the game.

Well put, zounds. And thanks for the heads-up Spuds.

Ultimately, the site is saying its part of the CTW alternate reality, so the question asked by players is whether its "official" or not.

The comments about the puzzle for example, is this a vehicle for clues about the puzzle to reach us? Or is it just a fellow player's thoughts?

No one needs to "come out of the closet" stand up and say "im such and such and I am a role player"
For this site, if its player made, it would help if perhaps there was a little something saying "dont worry, dont look too hard - this isnt actually official, enjoy, hope its useful".

This is not typical for our PM. Further research shows that anyone can create a blog via bloghorn and choose to use devilselbow.net as the host.

Further Googling finds that Devils Elbow is a town in Missouri, or a ski area in Canada.

I'm going to label this one OOG. I think it belongs to a player.

As a player, my "reality" and my "alternate reality" don't often get along. Reality will win every time. Part of my idea for my "alternate reality" this time was to put myself into the town and drown myself in its feelings and get into the heads of the people there.

I'm Shel Smythe.

My original intent was to just create a place where people could enjoy the story and get the puzzles in one glob with some prodding along the way, and see some things from another viewpoint.

I try to tell what Shel feels. He has a sixth sense, you know. Much the way Digitalis has a sixth digit. But Shel distances himself from many of the people around him because he's always looking to have trust placed in him, and therefore won't make an effort to approach people.

What Shel "solves" is really the collective work done here. Shel can't be here because he's living a life in Devil's Elbow and Aglaura.

Yes... Devil's Elbow is a town in Missouri-- but it's a great name for a town that bumps up against Ong's Hat / Aglaura... which created the perfect atmosphere for Shel to grow.

Shel's story will grow with the main story-- and with the input of the other characters in this game. That's my hope. My first intention was to not say anything-- which would help Shel grow with a reality created by the players AND Puppet Masters.

I couldn't think of a good way to make that happen, and didn't want to leave you all in the dark-- as we trust what we see just a little bit-- even if it's not official.

From this point forward, now that you know, Shel is a living, breathing occupant of Devil's Elbow, New Jersey. And he loves pie. Feel free to interact with him. He's a great storyteller!

Thanks for coming out, Spuds.

I have labeled this as "OOG" just so folks know that it's not a character in the game, and that the actual characters will not know this person.

Your blog looks like a fun way for you to keep a record of the happenings in the story line. How fun! Like a Guide but different. Keep up the good work!

I wonder, however...

If the characters COULD know me in the game?

Like... will this keep me from being an active participant at a later point, say.

I can't see how, Shel is not involved in the major goings on, same as many others, the only problem I can see is if there's a reality change and Shel doesn't know who you are anymore! Shocked hehe

Seriously, if you think Shel is getting in the way of your game play, or something happens to all residents that wouldn't fit in, then he can always be on vacation or something.
