Origins Perplex City trade/meet

As an American player, it's rare that I get to trade with anyone face to face. I was considering having a get together of any of the Cube Hunters at a major convention that occurs in Columbus, Ohio, June 29th to July 2nd. Nothing major, just everyone who wants to get together will meet somewhere, one of the empty conference rooms in the attached hotel for example or the skyway, and we can trade, talk shop, et cetera, ad nauseum. If I do go to Origins, I will most certainly be wearing at least my LOST leitmark, if not my earned ones too.

I'm just trying to see if anyone else would be interested in meeting. We can iron out details as the date approaches.

I'll be there wearing mine. Don't know how many cards I'll be able to schlep along, though.

Unless something happens between now and then, I'll be around. Doesn't sound like I'll have to work a booth this year, so I'll have a ton more free time than I usually do.

...

...damnit, that means I actually have to *buy* my badge this year. Wink

What booth did you work? I was around the Alderac booth a lot and I did a lot of stuff with L5R.

At the moment, I'm not sure whether I'm getting a hotel room. I might but since I live an hour away, I could just drive there and back and be fine. Since my purchase on eBay went awry, not because of the person but because of the USPS, I probably won't have anything higher than than my red and won't wear it. I'll just have my LOST on.

Hello, I am going to go to the Origins meet and greet if its still happening. Have many extras that I was going to give out to people that may be interested.

What day for the meet up?
Never been to Origins before what's it like?

Later
Steve

I haven't quite nailed that down yet, what day. I was thinking Friday or Saturday, since it's more likely that there will be people there on those days.

As for what happens at Origins, it's a gigantor gaming convention. If you're a cardflopper, dice chucker, miniature clicker, LARPer, and any other type of gamer, and they did have City of Heroes last year so don't be surprised if online gamers are there, there is something for you. Basically think every possible type of game ever made happening practically simultaneously. You'll have to decide between do you want to do. Do you want to spend 2 hours playing in a D&D game, go to the Paint and Take or go cruise around the dealer's hall for free stuff? Then after that what then? For a rough idea go to their website and download the master event list. This is by no means a comprehensive list (~25% of the events), but it does give you a good idea of the events that happen.

As for giving out extras, I think that's a wonderful idea. I will have a few extras when my cards come in and getting more people into the game is a great idea.

I was working the Cheapass booth for the last few years. Paizo early this year started handling distribution and boothing/selling product at major conventions, so there's not a whole lot for me to do except maybe swing by and help with conventions.

Friday'll probably be the best day for me, since I'll be at the L5R Kotei for the good chunk of the day on Saturday.

I guess that settles the matter. Not deliberately settling it based solely upon your availability but it did give me something to look at, the major CCG tournaments. More of them occur on Saturday compared to Friday, with probably the notable exception of Magic, which has a number of qualifiers for Championship on Friday, but the only ones that couldn't make it are people who are into the 2HG and 3 Man tournaments.

A quirky thought that just occured to me, Mind Candy is up for two awards, CCG of the Year and Innovative Game of the Year. Why don't we meet at the awards pre-ceremony at 6 or 6:30PM on Friday? The exhibitors hall closes at 6PM on Friday and that would give a central location that people could find to meet up.

Heh, not a bad idea. I'd have to duck out at 7, though, since I've got a Shadowrun event then, so 6 would probably be the best time.

I wonder, is someone from MC going to be in attendance at the con for when they win their awards? If so, people should be there, trout in hand. Very Happy

(Also, PXC is up for the "Gamer's Choice Award", which is voted on by the public. http://www.originsgames.com/aagad/gcvote , if people want to vote.)

Since this is next week, I might as well give it a good, 'ol fashioned bump to remind people.

The pre-ceremony seems to be taking place in Ballroom 1, along with everything else.

Seeing as this is a trade as well as a meet, I will be bringing along my tradeable cards. If you're looking for anything, I will be trading and selling my stuff. Personally, I'm looking for blacks and silvers, but then again who isn't? If you want to see what I have and what I'm looking for, look at my perplex city trades account: http://perplexcitytrades.com/DJ%20FreeMason

I'll be wearing my LOST leitmark. Anxious to see everyone there.

Let's see, only PMAvers and I met up. No one else. I was surprised.
However, Perplex City won a Vanguard Award for most creative game of the year along with 3 other games. We lost to Magic - Ravnica for CCG of the year. Freaking shame. Like Wizards needs another award.

Funny story. I noticed that there was no display for Perplex City in the Awards display case so I went to the information desk to rectify that. I brought a few cards. They pointed to someone at the registration desk. They pointed to someone in the Miniatures Hall, and they pointed to someone in the Tabletop Hall. They then said I had to come back at about 10 because the guy I needed to talk to wasn't there. When I came back and said that I had the cards and that he could put them into the display case, he offered me the invitation to the dinner that night because who else but someone who works for Mind Candy offer up cards? I explained that I was only a huge fan of the game trying to rectify the situation. He laughed and said that to get them into the display case, I had to go to it at about 1:30. Finally did get them in though.
