Try not putting the port number in if you are using a separate client, thats what I had to do.

I was in the chat room and accidentally closed the window and now I can't get back in. It says all connections are full. I've never used IRC before. Is it normal to have a limit on the number of people who can join?

The IRC server probably has a max number of connections it is set to handle. If you keep retrying, you might be able to get back in when someone else drops.

I got back on but nothing seems to be happening.

Kurt has apparently gone to find a board to press the second power button for the lift.

No one is posting and the moderators have all disappeared.
