[Trailhead] Studio Cyphers

With the IdeasFest ARG coming to a close (we never did make up a good name for that one) this email was sent out to players by the main character:
Agent Sueno 2693 wrote:
Subject: Mission Complete

Everything in its time, and IDEASFest 2006 was the time for justice!

Deputy Varin discovered enough evidence at IDEASFest 2006 to put
Director Anderson away for a long time. We were right, he did create a
time-travel vacation service. Not only that, he was the one who
brought the time machine to IDEASFest in the first place. No doubt he
wanted Silas to disrupt time so no one would notice his own
wrongdoings. You can read more about what happened at the 21st century
communication portal (www.ideasfest.org/forums), including a video of
Director Anderson getting what he deserves.

Thank you for the help, Deputies for the Duration. The duration is now
over, but time travel means that in some sense, your entry in the Time
Corps will never end.

Before I officially terminate the duration, I want to call your
attention to an email I received yesterday, with a subject of "Good
job":

"I've been watching you and your deputies fix time. You've got a very
resourceful bunch there. They're quick on their feet and eager to dig
into a mystery. I suspect that they're done helping you, but they
might be interested in helping us.

"Send them to www.studiocypher.com and we'll see if they're ready to
explore the unknown once again."

Tempus Fugit!
~ Agent Sueno 2693

www.studiocypher.com has a very nice little front page, wont spoil anything, just check it out for yourself. There's also a sign up page for people to enter names and email to join the 'Cyphers', and US people can put their address in in case there is some 'physical information' to be sent out (lucky devils).

So from the fun that was had with IdeasFest, this should be pretty good, looks more serious and mysterious too. Talk of the Philadelphia Experiment, Cyphers, Erasers and of course, liberation of the truth and saving the world Very Happy

Not too much to work on at the moment, but that front page is cool and the background image has stuff on it. EGo recognised the top writing as Rot13 and posted it in chat, but I kinda lost it.. Embarassed

Edit by Addlepated - Moved to Potentials forum, added [SC] tag.

I'm glad we're seeing more connected with IDEASfest.
Ego's solve for the first part of the graphic (ROT-13) is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are secrets that the world must know. The world is dangerous. The blood-dimmed tide of murder floods the streets. Desperation is thick in the air, and it's ev'ry man for himself. It is a world of catch as catch can, of eyes shining brightly with madness, of politicians with their razor-blade smiles and indifferent hearts. That is simply the face of evil. The heart lies beneath. That heart is more insidious and dangerous than the world, red in tooth and claw.

And the text for the 2nd part (Wingdings) is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Your soul is in jeopardy! America is more than purple mountains and amber grain. America is the home of bright minds, inventor souls, and the accidental brilliance of simply being different.

The third part looks familliar as another font and the fourth, at first glance looks like Octal (but isn't).
Have fun, and don't solve everything before I come back.

ok... found out 2 things:

1. if you translate the "symbol" text in the center of the dragon, it spells

eimen te kai ouk eimen

could it be a ROT? or another language?

2. there is at least one other page in the site...did you find it, too?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
type the word "cypher" after the slash in the address bar on the home page

"eimen te kai ouk eimen" seems to be ancient greek -
"for we are, and are not"

also, the snake, it moves! i wonder if its a countdown or clock?

I KNEW I saw it move! But then I accidentally closed my browser and I thought I was imagining things.

The third script looks a bit like symbol, but not an exact match, I suspect it might just be a substitution.

It does appear to be a simple substitution, but with punctuation, spaces and capital letters.
I fear we'll need to know the font to figure it out.
Here's a clearer representation of the graphic:

Well gee, looking at that third block of text today with fresh eyes I can't believe we didn't catch onto what the 'font' was. It looks to be Mary Queen of Scots cipher, you of all people should have picked that Rogi Razz
If anyone has a copy of 'The Code Book' they could quickly do a tranlation (I couldn't find a nice copy of the cipher online)

And random stab at the last one looking at the number ranges, could be a Beal cipher (letter count) of the other text already deciphered.

I don't have 'The Code Book' but I do have 'Codes Ciphers & Other Cryptic & Clandestine Communication' that has the Mary Queen of Scots Cipher in it - but, unless there is another version, it's not that cipher. I didn't see anything else in my book that looked promising either. However, if it is a simple cipher, it should be able to be figured out via frequency analysis which I'm not going to do right now as it's time for bed.

I actually thought about the Mary, Queen of Scots Cipher, but discounted it as the font layout was so clean. Either somebody found it as a usable font, or they are VERY good at graphical layout. Was just too lazy to do the comparison. Grrr!

Working on it, now.

EDIT: Got it. It was Mary, Queen of Scots

Here is the Raw translation:

Cleaned-up a bit, it comes out to:

there are those who detest our most precious bounty these men and women wish to level the mountain and fill the valley leaving us with nothing to do but plod upward to a bleak horizon a featureless world is not enough for them it must be populated by featureless souls cant you feel them in your televisions and newspapers burying you under their banal excretions

END EDIT

I'm having zero luck coming away with anything on the last part as a Beale, Six. But I think you're on to something with that as the number of words fits the range of numbers almost exactly.
