Last night it wasn't gibberish at all, just the img link to the gif.

Tonight I can't bring it up. Can you copy/paste?

I think Alcoe was looking at the source code for the actual gif image, not the page. I don't think it's relevant though.

I really think this all has to do with the filename itself, with the image just representing Hanso as Dante's suggested, but I'm drawing blanks at this point.

Then it is, indeed, gibberish.

Ah well.

We need every perspective we can get on this one, apparently Smile

That's what I thought too... and then when we heard that we're not looking at it the right way or whatever, I assumed that to mean that we're on the wrong track, even though we were all already curious about the file name.

Maybe it is just simply a case of the file name being the important thing, but I can't get over how the image looks "odd", and why they would make it a gif.

Just wondering, when Speaker from 'Inside the Experience' said this, who exactly was he referring to? There's quite a few forums working on this right now. Were we all looking in the same direction for the answer at the time? How can we be sure which group he was talking about? I've only been hanging out here, so I'm not to sure about what any other community had been thinking at the time.

All I know is that I've read some really wacky stuff posted by players in Speaker's comments.

Not sure if this is related, or even whether its a genuine change or just a quirk of coding, but after having visited hole2 and then gone to the original Hanso site in the same browser I am now unable to see the clock at all. Is this the same for other people, or have I just confused my computer somehow?

That's a very valid point... Speaker could be "speaking" to the less... "informed" of us all. I do post regularly at a LOST forum, and both here and there we immediately noticed the unusual file name and began commenting on it.

So unless a forum is filled with rather clueless people, I'm guessing just about every forum there is would be commenting on the strange file name right away.

So either 1) Speaker is saying that we're still missing something about the image

OR

2) He was speaking to some of the less quick gamers who hadn't noticed the file name yet.

Maybe Persephone will chime in soon with a hint if we don't figure out the hole2 image.

Has anyone tried opening it as an Audio File?

I was wondering about this myself. Why would the put out an extra hint so soon after we found it? we really didnt have much time to look at it before they posted it. It seems rather sloppy that they would put out an out a clue from behind the curtain. It seems rather amateurish on the PM's side of things.

Actually, yes lol. I played around with it a bit and couldn't come across anything. The problem is that it's interpreted as raw data without any audio header information, so you know nothing about sampling rate, sample size, codec, etc.

I tried opening and renaming it a bunch of times, but, alas, I couldn't get any audio out of it.

But I can't shake the suspicion that there's A LOT MORE than just visual to it. It's like there's an equation, not quite a fibbonachi sequence or anything, but there's some ruling equation governing where the tickmarks fall.

I'm going to try some more audio stuff before I tackle mathing it.

True. Is it possible that the message is specifically geared towards those who frequent ABC's Speaker site? Like I said, after reading the comments on just that last post there was a whole lot of "This is hard. Can't you just please give us the answer NOW!" going on. Remember how popular a show this is and how much of the game's audience is totally new to ARGs.

Exactly. I'm always caught between digging much deeper than the surface (like stegging, hidden images, complex codes, etc), and realizing that this is aimed at a much broader audience than probably the "average" ARG.

Not to mention it's still in the early going, although they've started to show signs of making some things slightly more complex with the base 64 encoding of Persephone's last message. Hopefully there will be a few more tricky puzzles on the way.

Perhaps the q9als2002 image is a tricky one that has us stumped thus far.

Has anyone noticed the weirdness when you view the Internet history file of hole2.thehansofoundation.org? When you hold the mouse over the file, it keeps displaying different things: sometimes odd characters, sometimes 'browseui', and just now, after viewing it again, it changed to 'Peter'.

EDIT: Also just seen 'jccatch'.

Is this normal??

EDIT2: Scrub that last one, looks like it has something to do with Jet Car download client.
