Check out this guy who claims to have found a bit of the solution. Check here I dont know if he is just makein it up or what yet. Any image experts out there?

He used the wrong image. He downloaded a user-made image from the other website. See the image on the lost clues website with the question mark embedded in it? It's just a header graphic someone made for the story. That guy downloaded it thinking it was the image from hole2 without even checking first. Smile

Heh, ahh. How sloppy of him D:

Has anyone looked to see if maybe there is a similar photo somewhere out in the world of google images, or anywhere else? Also could it be related to a painting.. i seem to remember a famous painting of a guy with no face.. it would be a bit simpler than the other things going on around here so it might be on the right track to head that direction.

Right, the bottom few lines of the image look quite different from the rest of the image (i.e. much more frequent white marks...) If you extract the bottom line and extrapolate it, you get what looks very much like a bar code especially on the right. However it doesn't seem to be a barcode because there are too many widths of bars.

I'm wondering if the horizontal size of either each dark bar, or each white space is encoding the message.

Attached is the image incase anyone else wants to try their luck cos I'm stumped!

I don't think it's a bar code...but I think you're on to something. We found something similar to that in the Alias:Omnifam ARG, but I can't remember/cant find what it turned out to be. I think we were just looking at it wrong, or it was morse code.

I searched on google images for similar things- portraits that are the same size, also using the terms "als 2002." I found a whole site of photos of people who had been diagnosed with/died of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) but I don't think that is where the answer is (seems in bad taste). Also, ALS stands for the American Library System, among the other things listed here. Didn't find anything down that route.

The painting you are thinking of may be Magritte - a man with a bowler hat and an apple in front of his face? He also painted other versions of faceless men- usually in suits with bowler hats. This was mentioned earlier on in the thread.

This is a longshot, and I can't try it. What stands out for me, is the right sid of the picutre. The hairline and the dots at the top. Has anyone tried printing this out and folding it like a Mad Magazine?

Otherwise I'll stare at this a few more hours. Mad

Mad Mag folding technique

Yep, I tried folding a letter sized printout, both side-to-side and top-to-bottom. Nothing seemed to come of it.

And my first Trout Smile I mentioned the Magritte thing a couple of days ago...but great minds think alike.

With all the ideas that have been tossed out or are next to impossible to confirm (unless you've got 1000 of hours for trial and error)....

Well...I'm wondering if the picture is not saying, I cannot see, I cannot speak, and I cannot hear......... so how do I communicate..... BRAILLE.

those dots could be interpreted as such.... what do you guys think... sorry I don't have the 100's of hours for trial and error... to see if there is a piece of the image that fits this idea... go here for a good jumping off point

Anonymous?

With Persephone's clue about mice and we've got a blank face, isn't it possible that the clue is directing us to look for something/one Anonymous. Like a login or a buried directory somewhere?

Well, look at it this way, most people playing this ARG are going to be coming in off the commercials on TV and probably not going to have played one before. The first couple of weeks are probably going to be extremly easy for people to figure out, until the neophytes find there way into a forum or group that can help.

The Speaker at Inside the Experience may have given us a clue about hole2 (or he may have been joking)

link

"AW begs:

"May i have some valuable information? just a CLUE?"

Okay, fine! I'll cave! But ONLY for you!

Colonel Mustard in the Library with the (Marvin?) Candle Stick."

I realize that at this point I'm grasping at straws, but maybe Q9als2002 is meant to help us find a book. While I can't find a book with call number Q9als2002, (or Q9 A15 2002), book's whose call number start with Q9 seem to be yearly science almanacs. Maybe we have to look in the 2002 edition of one with the initials 'als'?

I'm pretty sure it's a joke. He even says don't take him seriously unless he says so. then he makes a reference to the board game CLUE, to the person asking for a CLUE. Red herring all the way.

If it were meant to read "Q9 A15 2002," might those be grid coordinates on a particular 2002 map?

Something, Maybe?

Okay, let me start by saying I know nothing at all about computers. i am also new to ARGs (well I play the Beast in the begining, but then I didn't have a computer...).

That said I was playing around with "hole2" and doing just about everything I could with it, that is, if I clicked on it an my computer said, do you want to try this, I did it.

So, in the course of all this i eported the file to Excel and then it read a a GIF89a file. When I serached on the internet this seemed to always be associated with animation-ergo I was woundering if this might be a single frame of a film of some sort. Perhaps ment to look like it came off a projector reel and that's why we have the little lines outside of the main part of the image. If that's the case, I would think there must be more of this.

Okay, like I said I know NOTHING, so please don't bash me to hard.
