Wasn't the very first clue of The Beast a well-encoded phone number in the poster for AI?

I must stress one more time that the the picture made up of binary information in clear lines seems to be what's important. What does .gif compression do? Is that the one that says, "this color for this many pixels, this color for this many pixels?" If so, then perhaps that information, the "number of pixels" is important data. Perhaps also, reencoding a rotated gif might also give us interesting information.

Actually, that's called "Run Length encoding" and is used in earlier formats like PCX format. Gif uses LZW compression. Still, if you rotate the image 90 degrees, the little bits of line at the top of the image look more like spillover from the previous line. I think there's something there, but I don't have the hex editors to do it.

Uh, you got me...I didn't read up on ancient history, I confess. If so, how obvious was the encoding?
I just think about it this way: If you - as an individual - come up with a number to call, you can do and it's just you. If more than one person finds the same number (without communication between those people), it's most likely not a coincidence.

But in this case somebody finds this number, whether it's an actual phone number that we are supposed to find, we don't know. Now he/she posts it and encourages everyone to call it. If now, let's say, 10 people bite, they try and molest someone who has nothing to with this, I think that can't be in anyone's interest. Smile

I seem to remember the number on the AI poster being a series f dots or some such. Certainly much clearer than pixels of the edge of a gif. Shocked

Oh, I agree that spamming someone's home phone is a bad idea. Smile A good plan is to post "I'm calling it—nobody else try until I report back" along with your discovery.

The AI number was encoded in notches taken out of some of the letters on the poster, IIRC.

{SPEC} the face in q9ALS2002.gif belongs to Liddy Wales?

{SPEC2} I liked the idea of it being a yearbook photo. ALS could be the abreviation of some sort of school? a law school maybe? ie) Atlanta Law School. and the face in the picture would be found in the 2002 year book.

Does anyone remember the pointelized images from bigspaceship1 from last year? I can't remember how images were solved from that, but maybe that method is what's missing here.

Maybe the clue is not to do with the image itself; anyone may notice that the gif just looks like a photo put through a graphic pen filter in photoshop (which converts all pictures to this line kind of style). We may be looking at this from the wrong angle :/

Hence my relentless and annoying focus on spelling out the filename and then looking for an anagram that will mean something.

Did Persephone say anything that may hint on what we are meant to do with this picture when she said "a mouse does not rely on just one hole" ?

Speaker over at insidetheexperience.com (who is an official source) says that "we're looking at the image the wrong way".
