brilliant job we are on the right track now so the biggest thing is to figure out what they are intending us to answer. Do we keep answering washington d.c. for now?

It could be anywhere in the National Mall. But the map I posted reminds me of the Tidal Basin area (so I might use that as a guess next week).
I think Washington DC is too broad.

We're a bit ahead of the game now, so if you used National Mall this week, we have more opportunities to narrow the search in the upcoming weeks given the written clue. Everything seems to point to this area though. And we know it is steeped in Masonic mystery (remember the movie National Treasure - didn't we all think it was perfect for ARG????).

This is really awesome I am now more excited about this than I am about the Lost Experience and that at this point is not saying much. Anyway lets do as was mentioned and cross reference washington d.c with masons. Oh wait the answer is the declaration of independence.

I must have made a wrong turn in Albequerque, but how do we get the Masons involved with "it" (is "it" defined as DC or the game)? I would go and redo the Challenge but this computer doesn't have the right version of Flash. Feel free to laugh and make fun of me for my cluelessness. It won't hurt my feelings. Much. Sad Laughing (yes, that's me joking about)

If I indeed missed something obvious with regards to the Masons, there is a Masonic temple in Alexandria, VA, about 4 or 5 miles due south as the crow files.

Yes, as the crow files. They take up a lot of space while organizing. But they're good at it, so we let them do their thing.

Anyone else been using a cell phone to send in guesses weekly? I got a hint back for last week's, saying "It is the garden you seek." Not that that really narrows it down much, given the amount of green space on and around the Mall.

The Rose Garden at the White House? The US Botanical Garden? The National Garden @ The US Botanic Garden Conservatory? (this is a different website than the one for the US Botanical Garden)

If this were looking for NYC, I would say something like Madison Square, so don't limit yourself to the green spaces.

The weekly "hints" are geared to the online weekly game.

"It's in the garden you seek" is a clue to go find the garden on the flash. Last week's hint was similar in scope (to help you solve the flash game).

Remember, this is for the masses - don't try to complicate the game. It's not designed to be difficult or tricky. We're just lucky we have some incredible seekers here in UF so we got a heads up on the completed puzzle segments giving us that "map" of the National Mall.

All of those had occurred to me, I think we just don't have enough information to determine if it's one of those gardens or something completely different. It's very frustrating!

The Latest Map

Kona:

Regarding the map you posted,

It is an old map of West Point

The numbers around the corners appear to have been added.

Oh drat. Take a look at that site. A "Great Chain"? Hudson River?
Good find!

The game this week was at West Point.

Quote:
General George Washington himself described West Point as the "key to the continent", and sent one of his most trusted officers, Thaddeus Kosciuszko of Poland, there to safeguard the heights. In addition to constructing a daunting series of forts and gun emplacements, Kosciuszko instructed Continental troops to stretch a 500 yard chain weighing 50 tons across the Hudson, from West Point to Constitution Island (then known as Martelaer's Rock). The chain was suspended in the water by floating logs, providing an effective barrier against British ships advancing up the river.

Guess we're just getting a good history lesson - but you never know what may be important. Wink

I posted earlier that I would post some pics from my recon mission to the Genworth Financial campus. I have posted them here.

I'm still unsure of the Latitude/Longitude format they give on the NBC page. Could someone help me figure out what format it is in, so we confirm that it is the W. Broad St. campus they are referring to. The closest I can put it with my sad attempt to convert them is still about 2 miles away from their front door.

I'm used to chasing down wild geese with my GPS and will be happy to do the leg work and photograph the location that anyone can come up with, from converted coordinates.

And please remember to show your math, lol

If I'm not mistaken, the values are in DDMM.ssss, where the ssss represents the seconds in terms of a fraction of a minute. According to http://jeeep.com/details/coord/, this is called Minute Decimal. In other words, if you multiply the fractional seconds value by 60 you should get a DDMMSS.ss value for your latitude and longitude.

Since you wanted the math:

0.1812 * 60 = 10.872
0.67092 * 60 = 40.2552

This means the coordinates translate as 37d33m10.87s N, 77d27m40.26 W. The above site gives the seconds as 40.25 W (rounding). That difference is about a millionth of a degree, or about 4 inches. I think we can let the site slide.

According to Google maps (once you convert those to decimal coordinates), I get that location to be the corner of Park Avenue and N Allen Avenue, which according to the map is 3 blocks SW from W Broad Street in Richmond.
