No new information except that The Dharma Initiative was stopped in 1987. So, uhh, yeah.

Okay, unless I missed something really subtle, that was pointless. Other than knowing DHARMA was canceled in '87 and some odd static, it was nothing. The guy playing Hugh seemed really unprepared, too. There was a HF commercial with the original number though, so I guess it couldn't hurt to call again and see if anything changed.

EDIT: Nope. Nothing new. Pfft. I'm going to bed.

Theory on the picture:

Former Hanso exec seeking job on Monster.com? Hugh's "predecessor," or the original Hugh McIntyre.

He was removed from his post, and thus the picture was taken down, but to prevent any controversy, they... I dunno, he disappeared and this NEW Hugh McIntyre showed up, taking his place.

Well, one thing (and I don't know if I'm trouting myself) was that he mentioned the Save Joop page (or was it Free Joop... whatever)

I know people have thought it was a non-involved fansite, but this may lend credibility that it's an in-game site of sorts.

I didn't notice anything unusual other than he was broadcasting from Copenhagen, Denmark

The number was busy (1-877-HANSO). Its being flooded from the commercial

edit: Scratch that. I finally got through. I didn't notice anything new on the number. The commercial probably ran for those just finding the game from jimmy kimmel

Did not air for me?!

I'm from Louisiana, and after watching the Lost finale tonight with a group of friends, we stayed in front of the TV waiting for Jimmy Kimmel to come on. I did not read through all of the posts here to see if this only happened for us, but it did not air. A repeat of a Tyra Banks show came on instead. Kimmel's site had it coming on at 11:05 central, but ABC's site showed Tyra's show, and TVguide.com had Tyra as well. Apparently I didn't miss much, but why did it not air here?

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that the Kimmel appearance of HM was more to introduce the game to those who hadn't discovered it before rather than to leak a new clue to the current players. Still, I thought the segment was fairly well done, with a few uncomfortable moments notwithstanding. Smile

Ok, while it was so cool to have that tingly TINAG feeling to see Hugh on Kimmel tonight, I have to say that I was a little unimpressed. I felt like it seemed a little contrived and off-the-cuff. His explanation for why his pic was wrong was a little lame. I mean, If we are to believe that this is a powerful organization doing very advanced scientific projects, then why would they come off as seeming so sloppy? Unless, of course, the whole "inmate asylum" thing was indeed referring to the old phrase "the inmates are running the asylum" and the reality is that the Hanso foundation has been taken over by the "inmates" and they're not so good at running things. But more likely, it is late and I am rambling.

Watched the show, skipped through interview frame by frame on TiVO.

Sad to say I don't think there is anything hidden in the static. It's just fake satellite static. If there's a message hidden it's not plainly viewable in the static itself. I'm of the opinion that there's nothing there. If they did embed a message in the static, they did it -very- obscurely, which would seem to not fit their strategy so far.

Really this just felt like a publicity stunt, a quite nifty one, for the game. Not saying there's no clues in the interview, but nothing jumps out like all of the other clues so far in this particular game.

I'm pulling the file off my TiVo to convert it and go over it frame-by-frame in my editing software (not tonight, though-- tomorrow). I'm guessing I won't come up with anything since you've done the legwork, but we'll see.

The main thing that bugged me was how they referred to LOST as a fictional TV show. It's all done rather sloppily.

The show is about the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. The book Bad Twin takes place in that world, as the author died on that flight (not the story, but the book's existance). Hugh McIntyre is running a press war with Hyperion over the book's contents.

...and then he goes on TV and talks about LOST as a TV show!

Maybe I'm being too picky, but it probably would've been better if they didn't mention LOST at all in the interview. I guess it was kinda sorta unavoidable, though. It's probably best to ignore this interview as being part of the "alternate reality" and just accept that it's a publicity stunt to lure the herds to the Hanso site.

Sorta makes sense in a weird way. He's discrediting the book by saying that it's purely a work of fiction set in the fictional LOST universe, but for some reason Hyperion's anonymous author has decided to use it as a platform for getting the Hanso Foundation involved in a negative way.

For example, if you weren't scared of teams of crack para-lawyers decending from the sky, one could write a fictional novel where a mad (computer) scientist from Microsoft decided to take control of the world's computer systems, saying something about how the work ethics of his company drove him insane and power-crazy. Anyway, that's a different story........... Twisted Evil

I was really tickled to see the appearance on Jimmy K. My take on it is- and I agree with the person who said there were uncomfortable moments that, first it is a comedy show so had they presented it as a legit corporate head and had he acted like one people would have kinda dismissed it (as we do with the corporate heads the Daily Show interviews and, we never look those up). I think it was made to look "fishy" so people would look into it. And this is just a theory but a TON of my friends and I also confess to missing a few episodes, stopped watching to say they would just buy the DVD. I tried to tell one of those friends about the ARG and he didn't want a thing to do with it because it, according to him "would give something away" he has not seen. But they did seem to make a point of distancing themselves from LOST and therefore the plot of lost. That almost seemed like the point. 1) Get people interested by being a bit "odd" 2) Make sure to get across that we will not spoil your LOST experience.

Now-- for my rant!!! Time Warner Cable in (forgive me) F&^#(&@ HAWAII where the damn show was filmed!! Cut out 15 min of the recap and 15 min of the final episode. You cannot even imagine how upset people are here, it was on the news right after the show too. Time Warner's lines were jammed with irate people. Why a accident with a "power line" would affect 3 ISLANDS bewilders me greatly.

Aloha, bruddah!

Pacific Islands with weird power surges? Electromagnetism? Also, remember that Time Warner here on the rock is actually Oceanic Time Warner. I SMELL A CONSPIRACY.

Very Happy
