Who are the lost ones?

Sorry for asking, but I've been so busy the last few days, I've kind of lost track. Is this written somewhere on one of the websites? I just can't recall seeing it.

http://www.thewishcomic.com/journal/062606.html
The third to last paragraph of Dale's June 26th journal entry posted to this thread was missing that line.... the paragraph reads....
Quote:
"We have no more time for riddles and rhymes, the man who isn't will wait no longer. His plan has already begun and the first blood has been drawn, mere sacrifices to the world he envisions and recalls. You must find the ones who have been lost, and restore to them their missing faith. If even one is lost, all of this will soon be gone."

It's on the Aglaura website. It's at the bottom of the page:

http://aglauranj.org/news/6-21-06.php

Quote:
Police Investigation in the Woods

An ongoing police investigation has citizens concerned. Aglaura police have been in the woods outside of the town park at the south edge of town. Some citizens speculate that the investigation might be connected to reports of missing persons over the last few days, but Chief Prufrock has refused to comment.

It seems to me that there should be more concern expressed by the citizens of Aglaura about all these missing people. No one seems to want to tell us anything about it.

Also, can this be anyone but Don? Do we know of any other character that would fit this?

Since none of the "interactors" have mentioned asking about it, I sent a query to Sam about the missing persons.
Quote:
Sam,
Thanks for your reply. I was expecting a somewhat lower rate than I pay here, in California but see from other county sites near you, that this isn't out of line.
Good job on the library meeting. Good to know that if I do move there, ny kids will have someplace proper to study. While looking up those tax rates, I saw that some of the counties publish their crime rates/statistics and was wondering if that information was available, anywhere for Aglaura, proper.
I noticed the article about missing persons on the city's site and am curious as to whether there is any new information. This issue hits kind of close to home for me as I knew a couple of counselors at a camp out here who were engaged to be married and without telling anyone took off for a weekend camping on the beach at the north coast. It took about a week to connect their disappearance with their bodies. They were found shot to death in their sleeping bags on the beach. The killer(s) have never been found. I'd like to hope that your missing persons are just off having fun, somewhere (provided they're still "missing persons"), But It'd help me make my choice of where to live if I knew what happened with that. Does this kind of thing happen often in Aglaura?

Thanks for your time,
Rogi Ocnorb

[Update} June 29

Journal Update

Quote:
June 29, 2006: Some crazy things happening here in Aglaura, New Jersey, that actually make the events in my comic book, Chasing The Wish, seem normal by comparison. Since so many fans of the book seem to have become completely fascinated with my hometown and everyone in it (the unintended consequences of making them all characters in my book), I guess I owe you all an update of what's been going on.

It's only been a week since the Library vote but it feels like a month or more, since so much has happened since then, not much of it good, either. The Aglaura Police have had their hands full, with both minor and nuisance type matters, as well as much more serious concerns. In the nuisance category are the cases of graffiti that have gotten increasingly more frequent around town, and most of them unbelievably are of the 3-0-7 symbol from my book. I have no idea why that has caught on so much with the pranksters around here, and many of the good folk of Aglaura are ready to blame me for all of it. That's not quite the reception I was hoping for when they found out about my comic book. I'm almost grateful for the couple of more recent incidents, where someone painted "bound pages, not web pages" all over Marzent buildings and vehicles in the Industrial Park. It's taken the focus of that 3-0-7 mark for a while. At least Chief Prufrock has been pretty good about the whole thing, although she's been strangely silent on the whole matter.

I think perhaps she's had her hands full with much more serious matters though, like I said. First there were the rumors of multiple missing people around town, people who just vanished without a trace or a word to their family or friends. One of them turned out to be the poor man who jumped off the coaster at Ash Grove Park, so I guess technically he's not missing anymore. And there are rumors that they found a body in the Pine Barrens down by the park, but no one can confirm that yet, not even Sam, my friend in the municipal building in Aglaura. They've done a good job of keeping things quiet so far, but I doubt they can much longer. Like I said, things are getting crazy around here.

I've got to run. I have a 4:30 appointment at Klepsydra to talk to J.D. and a couple of things to do after that as well. I'll fill you in on more Chasing The Wish and Aglaura news when I return later tonight.

Things seem to be heating up.

Also one hidden entry before that:

http://www.thewishcomic.com/journal/062806.html

Quote:
June 28, 2006: We're still getting hammered by storms here in the middle of New Jersey, and there's flooding going on all up and down the East Coast. It's funny though - the rains should be done and out of here by tomorrow, but the worst of the flooding will just be coming then. In some strange and ironic way, it reminds me of the ominous feeling I've had for the last few days. It's like the storm has ended, but the true damage and worst is yet to come.

It's probably just the cumulative results of my fatigue and all the little problems that have come up recently, from server problems affecting sites I manage, to this miserable weather we've been having. It's all left me terribly depressed and unsettled, while most everyone else around me is still celebrating the Library victory at the Council meeting last week. Of course, the violent and disturbing dreams haven't helped, either.

Damn these moods of mine. Everything else is really going well. Meaghan and I are OK again, and she couldn't be happier with the Library decision and the role I played in it. Sam's finally gotten both Phyllis' and Iris' sites up and running, and almost finished up the IntraNet too, so she's also been in a great mood, despite the ribbing she's been receiving about falling asleep during the actual voting session. Everyone knows she works way too much, so it's totally understandable but she's embarrassed about it anyway. Still though, all things considered, she's on top of the world too. So what's bothering me?

I can't put my finger on it, but I'm not waiting around for it to dawn on me, either. The one thing I am sure about that's part of the whole feeling I have is that time is running out. I don't have the luxury of waiting for whatever's out there to come and find me, to work everything out for me, or to take everything away, as the case may be.

Tomorrow, I'm making an effort to get my s**t together about Chasing The Wish, the business stuff I've fallen behind on, the creative work on the upcoming books, all of it. I need to start answering emails and phone calls again, too. After that, I need to get the site updates done that Marzent and others have been clamoring for. And then I've got some footwork to do.

The answers are out there, I know it. And I think someone, or something, has been showing me the way to find them. Or at least the people who can help me. God, I'm sounding so crazy that I'm scaring myself. I wish Wes were here, he was always so good with this weird stuff but I think he might even be giving me a strange look right about now. But, if I am crazy, I might as well got and talk to an expert on the subject - J.D. Willingham. And from there, I'm going to see someone who probably should be there in Klepsydra right along side J.D. - Digitalis. He's got some explaining to do. If there's time, I've got another stop to make as well. I've got to figure out what these dreams have been pointing me at, and I think I may have to start knocking down some walls, both figuratively and literally.

New journal entry

Hey all - New hidden journal entry on Dale's page. It looks like we got a purpose now...

Quote:
June 30, 2006: It's a strange experience to be going some place that, up until a short while ago, only existed in your dreams. Or at least, you thought it did. Klepsydra Mental Facility. Not an everyday name, by any means. I recall spending hours and hours doing research online and in the library before I settled on that name for the comic. That was another of those cases where I dreamt about events taking place there, but could never quite remember the name I had dreamt. In this case it wasn't a surprise, since it was such an unusual name, but what was surprising, actually shocking, was the feeling I had when I stumbled across the name in a piece of literature and had that "aha!" moment. As it turns out, it was in an old Polish novel about a sanitarium called Klepsydra. It was described in the book as "the sanitarium under the sign of the hourglass", which was the symbol I had already drawn into the logo for the place in the comic book, based on my dreams. Creepy, no? There's more, but I can't recall the details now and besides, it's taken me away from what I intended to write about.

I've never been in a "mental facility" before (except in my comic), but for some reason the place felt so familiar as to be eerie, which I didn't need on top of the anxiousness I was already feeling over just going to see J.D. We were never close friends or anything but still, I used to see and talk to the guy almost every day. I drank beer with him in his home, and helped him and Phyllis create their first website for the Hollow Needle. I saw him cry when Sarah, the girl he all but adopted as his own, became Head Librarian, and he hugged me for about five minutes at Wes' funeral, when I couldn't stop shaking. The thought of him being here, insane (God, what exactly does that word mean, anyway?), was almost more than I could stand. But I knew I had to, though I couldn't tell you why. Maybe I was just afraid they might keep me there. They were experts, after all. Maybe they would be able to tell I was mad, too.

I didn't recognize J.D. when they brought him in the room. He looked like a shell of the man I knew, not only physically, but in spirit, too. He didn't look up at me until they had pushed him down into the chair opposite me and even then, there wasn't even a hint of recognition or acknowledgement in his stare. I tried to say "Hello," and found myself unable to speak for a moment, my voice cracking with emotion as I choked back my tears. "God," I said under my breath, and I looked down at my hands clasped tightly in front of me on the table, shaking uncontrollably.

I saw J.D. reach with both his hands until they were above mine and then he clasped mine tightly. I looked up at him, but he still showed no signs of knowing who I was. "God is not here," he said, in the voice of the man I remembered, strong, deep, and full of life. "But they are."

I looked around the room, but no one was paying us any attention; even the attendants seemed completely oblivious to both J.D.'s words and actions. As I did, J.D. said, "All of this will soon be gone." I looked right into his eyes then, and for the briefest moment I saw a spark, a light, a flicker of something, and he said, "Dale, you must find the masks, or all is lost."

I'm not sure how long I sat there, my mouth hanging open in shock, but at some point a man in a white coat was there beside J.D., prodding him out of the chair and guiding him away. I jumped up and said, "Wait, we weren't done speaking." The attendant turned his head back over his shoulder without stopping, to say, "Mister, this one hasn't spoken in over a month. Time's up. Now, go home."

Yes, we definitely have our direction.

It appears that J.D. is our first one to have lost his faith (God is not here) and it certainly sounds like the DEGs or some other dark entity that doesn't want the ancient knowledge to be retrieved has come to Aglaura.

Dale really has to talk to Sarah about the masks and find out her intention with each one of them and who she might have had in mind when she created them.

Which also brings up... Is JD the one who has forgotten who he is? Did he get so lost in the memories that never happened that he can no longer be certain of anything, including himself?

But yes, finding the masks is the key (or one of them anyway), but we sort of knew that already.

On another topic...
I must say I really like how MG's slogan has really caught on for the "Save the Library" campaign.

MG, you go girl!

[Update] July 2

Posted today in the "pubic" creators journal.

Quote:
July 2, 2006: I'm honestly not sure if I've written about my "Digitalis" dreams in my public Creator's Journal here or not, but it doesn't really matter anymore. Everything is connected, I know that now, and the last two nights' worth of dreams have made me even more certain of that.

Friday night, after my disturbing visit with J.D., I actually fell asleep much faster than I have been lately. I guess the visit was draining physically as well as emotionally and I was just exhausted. I must have begun dreaming almost immediately, because I wasn't asleep that long when I woke up, and wrote down what I had just been dreaming. It was the end of my story, the rest of the Chasing The Wish comic book tale. I had seen glimpses and bits of it before, but never like this, in one cohesive whole that I could actually remember and transcribe. In the end, I filled up almost eight pages with text, pictures, and raw notes. I know now how everything ends, how it all wraps up and all the pieces get stitched together, at least for my comic book. I hasn't brought me any peace though, except for knowing that sometimes, at least in fantasies, there are happy endings. I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to publish it all without getting sued, since some of the locals here don't come out looking to good at the end of it, but I guess I'll deal with that at some point in the future.

I had Meaghan yesterday and we had been planning for quite some time to go out to Ash Grove Park for the day, but that was before everything happened out there. She was quiet and in a bad mood anyway, although I'm not sure it was entirely about the park being closed. She asked if we could go eat at the diner and seemed happy when I said yes, but it didn't last much past getting there. Maybe it was because of the strange looks a few of the customers gave me. The rumors of a body being found in the woods with my 307 symbol on the arm has caused the more superstitious in town to start up the old "What is wrong with you?" looks again. But like I said, I don't think Meg noticed them.

Back at home she went to her room to be alone for a while but that was OK, since I wanted to finish adding bits and pieces to the notes I had made from Friday's dreams. She left not too long after that, Bruce coming to fetch her at the door while Lady Diana waited in the car. Meg didn't even kiss me when she ran out the door, so I was still a little upset about the whole day when I finally tried to get some sleep.

Before I could even fall asleep though I heard the floor creak, and the door to my room swing open. I thought maybe it was Meg, since no one else has a key anymore but when I looked up I saw Digitalis standing there, at the foot of my bed. His face, dimly lit by the moonlight from the window, seemed even more tired and worn than usual. I sat up, too surprised to even speak, when Digitalis began to talk.

"When six have fallen, it begins,
All of this will soon be gone.
When a face conceals but naught within,
All of this will soon be gone.
When a heart once broken loves again,
All of this will soon be gone.
When wishes rule the hearts of men,
All of this will soon be gone."

"One by one illusions fall,
One redemption may doom us all.
From best intentions, the darkest lies,
And mercy for those we despise."

I knew then, on some level of awareness, that I was dreaming, but that knowledge didn't cause the dream to end.

"When past and present and future blend,
All of this will soon be gone.
When demons wear the face of men,
All of this will soon be gone.
When dreams forgotten are dreamt again.
All of this will soon be gone.
The days of man approach their end.
All of this will soon be gone."

"Six voices with one tongue will call
A secret hidden behind the wall,
From priests to gods to ancient kings,
The fall of man, the end of things."

I know now what I must do, starting with a trip out to park, late tonight.

I know there's alot more to this than what im seeing right now, but at the moment, my focus is drawn to the masks. His dreams are referencing to them, J. D. is telling him to find them...but what I'm wondering is why they're so important.

Seems to me we can define each of the things mentioned in the "prophetic" statements:

Quote:
When six have fallen, it begins,

The first six months of the year.

Quote:
When a face conceals but naught within,

I've been thinking that this is JD because of the description Dale gave of JD seeming to not be all there except for the one moment of lucidity.

Quote:
When a heart once broken loves again,

I can't figure out who this would be. I certainly don't think it's Bruce. Maybe Sarah because she will find her masks and has her dream job? Any other ideas?

Quote:
When wishes rule the hearts of men,

I think this is the scariest line. What if it means that those who are like The Wish will be taking over our world?

Quote:
One by one illusions fall,

Not quite sure - other than all of the dreams people are having.

Quote:
One redemption may doom us all.

This might refer to the saving of the library. It was "redeemed" from the wrecking ball, but then there's the dream of the library being destroyed by fire. Don might just go to that extreme to get what he wants. Or is it Diana this time?

Quote:
From best intentions, the darkest lies,

Our intentions were good, but evil isn't that easily put off.

Quote:
And mercy for those we despise.

I think "mercy" is not the way we normally think of it, but more like a boon or almost an un-earned clemency. The line means that the ones that are trying to take over have gotten what they want.

Quote:
When past and present and future blend,

Dale's telling of the story, the current activity in Aglaura and the pines, and the prophetic messages.

Quote:
When demons wear the face of men,

The DEGs? Other entities?

Quote:
When dreams forgotten are dreamt again.

Dale is certainly doing that.

Quote:
The days of man approach their end.

Looks like the stakes are much higher this time.

Quote:
Six voices with one tongue will call

The masks with Sarah being the voice?

Quote:
A secret hidden behind the wall,

Seems there will be a race to find the wall. One will want to destroy it and one will want to find the secret.

Quote:
From priests to gods to ancient kings,
The fall of man, the end of things.

Looks like Dale may have to call on some past "men of valor" to help him with this end-time battle.

I was going to go through and find all the prophetic statements we've received but it looks like Digitalis has given us the important ones.

I believe they are important because Sarah made them.

In the first CTW Sarah was a bridge between this world and the "other side." She created one mask that had a powerful effect on anyone who put it on - Phyllis being an example. She also created the stones that were used in the defeat of Don at the end of CTW1. My avatar is one of the stones that were sent out to some of us for safe keeping.

Go here http://sixthofnever.com/ and read the post titled can't find a happy place for Sarah's encounter in a nightmare when she sees all six masks, what they stand for, and their warning to her.

I think Diana broke Dale's heart when she left him.

So when Dale can love again......are we going to play matchmaker between him and Sam? Or will there be a change in reality bringing Diana back to him (with a nicer personality)?
