Yep that is it, thanks Pixie, Dash and Roxy!

*EDIT*
odd: tthe e-mail results spells a word, while the mailed tickets look like the cipher text is broken because I am only getting partial words (or rather one word + randome letters)

Re-edit
Ignore me I was reading my grid wrong.

Anyone have a link to an online decode program because I still don't understand how to use a number as a key.

What happens when there is an error in the puzzle?
I know what the answer is supposed to be but my range of tickets is off by 100,000.

Should I just enter the word produced by my good ticket pair as it truly works out or should I put in the word I know it to be?

kona... Try this page:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://members.aol.com/SciRealm/CodeSystems.html
There's some kind of script blocking going on in my firewall(s) currently, but I have used that page before.
Select Gronsfeld and enter your letters from the big ticket in KeyWord 1 and the numbers from a small ticket in KeyWord 2

EDIT: Forgot we were spoilering this.

EDIT 2:
Or, just use this table:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
0|ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
1|ZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXY
2|YZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWX
3|XYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVW
4|WXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUV
5|VWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTU
6|UVWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRST
7|TUVWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRS
8|STUVWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR
9|RSTUVWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQ

Find the letter from your big ticket on the top row and then go down to the row matching the same character position on your small ticket. Where they meet is the target letter.

kona, how the number/letter idea works:

You can convert any letters you have into numbers ala a=1, b=2.. y=25, z=26.
Then you can add or subtract the other numbers modulo 26 and change the result back to letters (doing what you did before, only the other way around) ala 1=a... 16=z

Examples:

a= 1, add '7' -> 1+7 = 8, convert 8 back to letter -> 8= h

f= 6, subtract 21 -> 6-21 = -15 = 11 (-15 modulo 26 is -15+26 = 11) convert 11 back to letter -> 11= k

This same idea can be used by taking two letters, and convering them both to numbers instead of having one letter and one number. If you use two sets of letters and say with the second (the key text) that a=0.. z=25 , then add them together, what you are doing is in fact just Vigenere.

Nice site! I'm not really sure we need to spoiler solving methods (just answers to puzzles).

Okay, that validated the long hand version I figured out at 2am. Gotta love Google (sent me to a site that explained the process). Only one of my six tickets yields a reasonable result. This is verified by konashark's emailed tickets. Only one of the Admit One ticket numbers worked.

Hopefully I can take a break at work on Saturday at the right time and get online. But most of my resources are at home (and at work I do not have access to chat).

Best of luck to all.

originally, i spoiler tagged it because i am used to seeing people spoiler tag solving methods since some people may want to figure things out on their own. I seem to remember seeing it done like that most of the time. I also had it spoiler tagged originally since i wasn't sure if we were actually allowed to try to help eachother on this one thing {being a possible contest within the game itself} and in order to only half get in trouble if it happened, heh, at least i could say i spoiler tag it.

Guys,
I may just be an idiot, but i have searched all over the internet and there are lots of different ways to solve a Gronstad
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
some where you just count back
and some where you make a whole new alphabet.
I have tried the program at http://members.aol.com/SciRealm/CodeSystems.html and it gets something completely different than what i get just counting back.
All of the combinations i get when i just count backwards make no sense.

I was just wondering if anyone out there actually converted theirs to a word or is it still just jibberish?

EDIT:Wow, I feel dumb. My list of letters that i was using for a solver had a typo in it, got my word now Smile

To play in the live weekly online puzzle round, each player must enter three things when their Gift Ticket number is drawn: the ADMIT ONE ticket number that works with their Mystery Code, the Mystery Code from the back of the Gift Ticket, and the secret word formed by the combination of the two.

From:http://www.ashgrovepark.com/admitone/

I think someone else had mentioned only 1 of the 6 tickets translates to something.... that was the case for mine also.

PS: Thanks everyone for the 'nudge' on the puzzle....

Today's GIFT TICKET Numbers (05/27/2006) are shown below.
If you hold the GIFT TICKET with one of those six numbers, please make sure you have everything you need to respond, and then email us at May27QualifySPLATashgrovepark.com with your GIFT TICKET number as the SUBJECT line by 5:10PM eastern on Saturday, May 27th. The body should include: the ADMIT ONE ticket number that works with their Mystery Code, the Mystery Code from the back of the Gift Ticket, and the secret word formed by the combination of the two. If we do not receive enough correct responses in time, we will post another six numbers at 5:15PM. The first people to respond from that set will fill the available slots for the day's actual Puzzle Game. At 5:30PM we will post today's puzzles for the qualifiers to solve, and for everyone else to see.

This week's puzzles will require speakers and a sound card. If you have one of the ticket numbers and don't have sound capabilities on your computer, please let us know and we will put your number back into the pool for next week's drawing.

Unfortunately, at work I do not have a sound card, so my spot will go to someone else (I have ticket 375068). Bummer.

May27QualifySPLATashgrovepark.com wrote:
We're sorry, but not having a sound card will prevent you from playing this week's Puzzle Game. we will put your number back into the drawing for nextweek's game.

Thank you for trying and we hope you try again next week.

Umm... I assume those of us that aren't finalists shouldn't, y'know, help?
