Wow. I'm really very new to PXC, and I made a film just for fun. I feel really shy about posting anything about my entry because everyone here seems much more scary and mean than on the forums I frequent.
Didn't really follow the popular formula - my film is more about competing obsessions.

Well, I've emailed the link to all my friends (beats the hell out of the chain mail junk they send me) and posted a bulletin to all 26 of my Myspace friends, on top of linking via my blog.
But that relies on people having friends! Poses something of a problem for me, these "tell-all-your friends" ideas

Yeah, this competition seems to have brought out a bit of obsessive bickering among some people - I guess everyone's just very proud of their work. Everyone's very nice really, and I thought your film was quite a novel idea.

That's what MySpace is for. I don't actually know half of my friends on there, I just found some strangers *cough* who happen to be supermodels *cough* and asked them to be my friend

wow seej!! That's unbelievably good!! The Yorkshire-version of a chicago accent is subtly amusing sounding, but nevermind: the craftsmanship is impressive.
I like a lot of the fFilms people have made .. most of them are really solid work. the 5 parter makes me laugh. 36 puzzles in 64 seconds is impressive. "Great Perplexations...The Moovie" has some sort of link to the avatar of awesome. I would like a nice clean MP3 of the "Its time for" song -- and on and on. really solid work fFolx
I'm so glad I didnt make a fFilm: I can sit back and enjoy the work of others I really would have had lousy resources and a pathetic product. really quality work everyone

That's a Chicago accent?
When I played it to one of my oldest friends and he asked who I'd got to do the narration I figured it was good enough . Thanks for the compliment Scott.

My flaming pile is now up! Now I can finally watch the rest of these masterpieces. Feel free to check it out and don't forget to insult the hex out of it.

And more on topic, I had a lot of trouble getting it to upload with the sound not being off by a few seconds. What a pain that was. Maybe if I knew more about how it all works...

Yeah, after trying a dozen different formats (the first being their recommended MPEG-4/MP3/320x240) it turned out that the sound compression was the key to getting it synched. I wouldn't have cared so much since it would have added to the whole "crappiness feel" of it, but I wanted it right on for the planes and the Big Ben thing.

So it looks like to competition isn't at all about the quality of your video...more about how much attention you can get... and the winner is SteveC for getting his video linked through a front page slashdot posting
Nothing against anyone spaming their link, it's what the company want...but calling it a video competition is kinda crappy.
oh hey, look at that; right click, reload every, 5 seconds. Now ain't that a handy browser feature...

Looking at his views, I'm not entirely sure that slashdot had the intended effect. Probably most people aren't clicking the name of the guy who wrote the article.
In other news, perplexcity.com is down.....

It's back up already - and yes, not precisely the best way to get onto SlashDot...it's already been "outed" as "SlashVertising" on the site, the description given of the game is less than complete, and the comments following are...well, your typical SlashDot garbage.
PerplexCity.com was also displaying a "Down for maintenance/updates" page, not a 404...so it's unlikely that the site was "Slashdotted", or if it was, Mind Candy were quick enough to get a redirect into place in time before the server got pummelled.

Everything on /. that is commercial is "outed" as advertising.. check my number, I'm an old hand I think the short article (normal /. length) was of reasonable content with a reasonable point.
Of course, it was only made to get my video link in an article, which as pointed out made bugger all difference to my views.. Oh well - I've NO idea how anyone is legitimitely getting 10k+ views with links, if one in /. doesn't do much...?
Not to ring my own bell, but I think my video isn't THAT much worse than the 7 with more hits, but it's unlikely to overtake them as I've now given up on linking If /. doesn't work, can't see what will
