[SIGN!!!] Save the Library Petition

[EDIT]POLL NO LONGER VALID, PETITION IS UP HERE:
http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/Aglaura
[/EDIT]

so in working on the petition/guestbook, i've run into some issues. generally speaking though, what i *WAS* waiting on was a response from either sarah or dale about who they think i should have the petition sent to.

I know Dale has been busy, and not always responding to emails right away. The email i sent dale:

Quote:
Mr. Sprague,

Forgive me, I am not contacting you about your web site but rather as a fellow Burlington County citizen, and a preschool teacher, in pure shock at the proposed demolition of the library. I received your email address from Miss Sarah Wyatt. She said you are not only on the council, but also that you are very opposed to the demolition as well.

I have begun to set up a petition to stop the proposal of the demolition and "Save the Library". The way this particular petition works is when someone signs it, I will be sent a copy of their signature - and the intended target will be sent a copy as well. You see, I need an intended target. I could set it as you, and you could bring the copies to the meeting and speak on the people's behalf. Instead, I could also put someone else, or the entire council, as the intended target. If this is the option, I need the email addresses for the "target{s}".

Please respond promptly, if I get no response I may be forced to simply set yours.
A concerned Educator,
{name edited}

Now, in game, if dale is on the council he should have no problem bringing the petition to the rest of the council's attention at meetings or whatever. HOWEVER, oog and totally meta, i am not so sure dave&team want dale's box stuffed with petition forms. So the email was to give them the chance to decide... however, in wanted to do something and not sit on it for another week, I though maybe as a group we could decide {lessen my guilt!!!}. If i hear from dale before the end of the weekend, it will just be whomever he says, if not, it will be whatever the poll says. Deal? Deal!

The reason I voted to send it to Dale is that he is on the council. With dear Bruce it would be too easy for him to just ignore it. Smile We are asking the Council to take action, I presume, so a member of the council seems the right person to send it to.

Bah, when you send in the final petition, carboncopy it (cc) to Bruce, Sam and Sarah. I'm sure one of them will do something with it. Razz

Seriously if you were to do something like this IRL you would send it straight to the top.
So yeah any petitions would be sent directly to the mayor and not to council members.

I agree. Why can't I vote for the Mayor?

Definitely send it to Dobbs. Afterwards, if it's an online petition, you can always mass email the link to anyone else who should see it.

How are you setting the petition up? Are you coding a website or using a service like http://www.petitiononline.com? Be sure to let us know when we can all start signing.

Do we have an email for Mr Dobbs? If not, we can ask Sam. Tell Sam what we are doing and I'll bet she will help us (the male version of Sam was very helpful in CTW1).

WELP, unfortunatly, we had an issue with my webserver, and i had to go the way of a free petition site after all, however i found one that doesn't do delivery. This means i have to forward the petitions to whomever we choose - which seems to be Mayor Dobbs, and as soon as i get my confirmation email, i can give you all the addy for the petition. HOWEVER, there is an auto validation for email addies, it means you will have to use a different email addy for each signature {hey, you guys with the hundreds of google email addy invites, now would be a good time to use them}

[EDIT] for those who were wondering, the petition says:
Quote:
We, the undersigned, are outraged at the proposed demolition of the library in Aglaura. This building, of historical value, is not just a building but a land of dreams. A book is like a good friend, something to cozy up to on a rainy night, a ticket to the imagination. A computer in a park cannot match the love of turning that last page that you worked so long to reach.

Forgetting for a moment the wonders in a child's eyes when they turn the pages to reveal a new picture, let us remember that not everyone can or will use a computer. And forget taking anything from the library, no books to take.

We implore you to rethink the issue, and vote to SAVE the library. Our children's imaginations are at stake.

Be sure to send the address to at least Sarah. I'm sure she'll sign it and possibly get a few other signatures for it as well.

I got my response back from sarah:

Quote:
Dear Taryn,

A preschool teacher! You know first-hand what it's like to watch a child
read a book and see his eyes flit around from word to image.

You honor me with the idea for the petition. I think that probably the
best person to send it to would be Dale Sprague, who is a member of the
city council and firmly in my court on this issue. If you were to send it
to someone else I'd worry that the signatures might get misplaced. His
email address is daleSPLATsynthasia.com.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wish this can make a difference in the redevelopment plans!

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt
Head Librarian, Aglaura Public Library

SO.... As i said, if i got a character response i was going to go with their suggestion... i guess i'm going to send it along to Dale.

I'm sendign an email to Sam requesting contact information for the mayor and city council members. There SHOULD be soem way for the public to contact them in an official capacity, so I'm hoping Sam can supply some sort of contact onto the Aglaura webpage.

By the way, I've signed

Signed twice, one using the email I set up exclusively for the game, the other with my normal email.
