Quick, dumb question-- what e-mail address did you all use to e-mail Sarah? The one on her blog?

Email 6/02/06

A recap for those who don't have time to read the email; I asked Sarah about the storyline of her book. I was hoping it would give us some insight as to why the masks were stolen. Her book is about a princess who wishes for a child. She promises to put the book up on the library website soon, so we can read it.

Quote:
Dear Roxanne,

Thanks you so much for your message. I haven't posted the book online
because I've been hoping that people would come into the Library to read
it. Lately I've found myself in the ironic and awkward position of
considering posting the text online for people out of the area to read.
Ironic, because this is exactly what I have been fighting with Marzent's
digitization plan for the Library.

In any event, I will try to get the text posted to the website soon. It's
about a princess who wishes for a child, and her heartbreak and joy in
trying to realize her dream. I've absolutely no idea how that might have
any bearing on real life, though!

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt

how it works is that they have placed an index.html file in every folder of their website, this protects their individual folders from being viewed by any 'lucky' typos or novice hackers...

I actually got a response from an inquiry I made of Sarah, but she told me to keep my response to myself. Smile I don't really want to betray her trust, she's gone through too much already. Anything that does come up though that is shareable I'll be sure to post it!

Figured I should post my reply from Sarah, even though it doesn't tell us anything new. Alot of my questions were asked by others who've already posted. I did ask if she remembered anything or anyone strange about the day of the robbery, thinking we could try to narrow it down to being a resident of Aglaura or a mysterious outsider who stole the masks.

Quote:
Dear Kim,

Thank you so much for your kind note. I actually had some pictures which
I would have loved to give out to people showing what the masks looked
like, but they were stolen too. There was a scrapbook I made for the
exhibit with a Making Of series of pictures posted in there. I will have
to ask around and see if anyone else took any pictures while the masks
were on display.

I didn't notice anything at all out of the ordinary that day, but I was
spending a lot of time in the back trying to get the other parts of the
exhibit put up. I asked around to my "regulars," but they didn't see
anything to tingle their senses either. You're right though - I can't
imagine taking another's possessions, especially in a town this size.
Whoever it was will probably have to face me on the streets weekly. How
could someone do that and be able to hold their head high?

The building itself doesn't have historic landmark status - someone
suggested that the other day and I looked it up. Back when they were
doing the renovations a few years ago, they made the decision not to seek
protection in order to ensure they could get the permits for the
expansion. However, someone else has also suggested the petition idea, so
maybe that will help. I just wish there were some sort of solution that
could save the Library!

Thanks again for writing to me.

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt

I really feel like there's something we're not picking up on that could help save the library. She's always stressing that much more than the missing masks.

SO I replied to Sarah's reply.. with

Ms Wyatt,

It was nice to hear back from you - although of course I wish it was under better circumstances. I'm sorry to see, via Aglaura's webpage, that the masks still haven't been returned. I wish that whoever took them could find it in their heart just to give them back.

On the subject of your library, I want you to know that I'm goign to be tryign to get in touch with council members via email to try and help argue for the salvation of the library. A friend of mine is currently working on assembling an online petition with those goals in mind. Hopefully, if enough people 'shout' long and loud enough, someone will listen.

I wanted to mention something else about the masks. Do you have any idea why they might have been stolen? I mean... it jsut seems so odd. Stealing art is something very hard to do as its very hard to resell.. being that each piece is so unique and distinctive. Besides, what value could the Masks have to someone other than yourself? Surely whatever monetary sums they could potentially go for is not even close to the sentimental value they hold for you. Frankly, I'm in doubt that the money a theif gained by selling them could possibly adequatly make up for the effort and risk of stealing them combined with the effort, risk and COST of finding a broker and a buyer for such stolen merchandise. Its almsot like they couldnt be stolen simply for resale. Can you think of any other reasons someone might have taken the Masks? Anyone with a grudge against you?

And got the followign reply.

Sarah wrote:
Dear Andrew,

You are a dear for writing back. Your friend wrote me, I believe, about
the petition. It's an honor to have such nice people on my side. Like
you said, it would have been nice to become friends under better
circumstances, but at least this way I can find an occasional way to smile
through the pain.

Your questions about why anyone would steal the masks echo mine in many
ways. The only major thing that's been going on lately has been the
Library redevelopment plan, which surely has developed some grudges
against my vociferous protestations, but I have a hard time thinking that
anyone would stoop so low as to resort to theft over the issue. I suppose
stranger things have happened, anything's possible, truth is stranger than
fiction - pick a cliche and plug it in. Deep in my heart I do not want to
believe such a thing could happen.

Anyway, thank you for your note and ponderings!

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt

I'm gonna contiue to work on developing a friendship with her

I agree sinyx. She says she likes the petition idea but later says she wishes there were a solution to save the library. I keep getting the idea that we haven't found the solution they want us to find. Maybe there's a New Jersey law that will save the library. Or maybe we haven't contacted the right person.

Received an E-mail from Sarah today, answering one I sent I short while back:

Dear CK,

It's so gratifying to see someone who knows just exactly what I'm talking
about when I say that digitizing the Library is a terrible idea! Not only
are there esoteric issues at stake, but the very real danger of losing the

sends chills down my spine.

I plan to print out the information from those links and take it home to
study (on actual _sheets of paper_!). Perhaps I'll be able to find the
ammunition to put this miserable plan to rest. I can only wish!

P.S. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you - this week has been
pretty hectic with the loss of the masks on top of everything else!

Sent a reply:

Dear Miss Wyatt,

Thank you for the reply, I do hope that helps.

With all of the goings on that I've seen in that little town during my investigations, it would be a shame that such a prominent building would be taken down. I wish there was more I could do to help. I will continue to search for any more arguments I can, but with Google and Yahoo trying to digitize their own books, the search is slow.

Hopefully, all things will come to a happy ending (how more appropriate then for something that contains so many?) Heh, even if we have to track down Mr. Sprague's "Wish" to do so, I'm sure that ending will come to fruition.

Yours in the struggle.

CK

Let's see what she says to that.

Wasn't the Wish the bad guy last time though? I mean, I think I know how to go about suggesting it... "I started that petition we spoke about. I decided to pick up that comic your friend Dale wrote. It is kind of interesting, this concept of a Wish being a creature that grants a wish. There sure are times I could use that. Heck, this is one of them. Maybe if we hope hard enough, your wish might come true!" or something like that. you know, plant the seed...? "catching the wish" maybe we need to catch how many times they say wish before we catch on? lol... but no really, maybe we need to find a way to force him here, to catch him so to speak.

[EDIT] it took a long time for me to post this, heh, in the mean time i see CK has already done it! rock on!!![/EDIT]

I'm a bit of a lurker who's trying to get into this ARG while also trying to catch up on the first wish, so my lack of knowledge might make this point useless.

From citizen kane's reply from sarah:
"(on actual _sheets of paper_!)"

At first this made me think that there's a a two word url with an underscore at sixthofnever.com that we have to find(i.e. the_wish.htm). However, seeing that there's a space before the underscore between 'actual' and 'sheets' leads me to believe that is a hint to the '~' from bruce's blog.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I'm still trying to get caught up with the last CTW and get into this one.

I wouldn't say "bad guy." It's more like a tool - good or bad in the untent of the user. In CTW1 Don Marzanor would definitely use "The Wish" for "bad" intent (power), where Dale just worded his wish in a a way that led to bad results.

I tried something in this line, *wishing* myself in my last mail to Sarah that all her problems would be solved... I think using the word *wish* would trigger some new info or somthing like that, but no luck

Her answer:
Quote:
Thank you so much for your kind note. I'm always hesitant to claim that any artwork has monetary value. If it weren't for the need to pay for clothing and shelter, I would create art just for the joy of doing it. I suppose I could have tried to sell the masks, but am not sure what they
would have gone for. In any event, selling them was not in my plan.

I did have some pictures, but they were pasted into a scrapbook which was stolen alongside the masks!

The vote on the redevelopment plan should be coming up fairly soon. Quite probably it will be on the city council's agenda for next month. The date is bearing down distressingly rapidly.

Anyway, your support means so much to me. I wish we could just find some way to keep the Library intact.

Not that it tells us anything, but my friend sent Sarah an email in support of the digitalising of the library. Can't see them getting on too well....

Quote:
Dear Miss Clarke,

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion as well. However, it
sounds to me like it's spoken from someone who would rather watch
television than look at the shapes the clouds make; someone who would
rather watch the 2 hour movie rather than read the book it's based on;
someone who would rather buy a loaf of white bread at the store rather
than wait for dough to rise for homemade.

Not all modern improvements are good or convenient. I hope you're not
writing your book report at the new digital library when the power fails!

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt
