So, what exactly is the answer to Mother Tounge II? I'm no good with Ciphers, and I need the Vitality boost to get to Wraith.

It's a simple letter substitution cipher once you get Mother Tongue 1 (which I never would have without the solution earlier in this thread.

(I misread Atrophied's earlier post - the h wasn't the problem in what he had.)

Has anybody got any clues on Abandonment yet? It's got me stumped.

Yeah.. Abandonment is pretty out there..

I still have trouble ciphering the Zombese.. Had to go with spoilers.. I sat and tried to figure it out after having the lines from the play, but still get confused. I understand dropping the H.. but like..

why is it Mark on the first line and almost on the second?

Abandonment

I want to throw a few ideas out there for the Abandonment quest. Maybe they'll jog something in someone's mind and we'll come up with an answer for this thing.

Things that might be important:

The name of the puzzle is Abandonment. (Abandonment, meaning to be given up, to be forsaken or to be deserted.) This is not a "happy" word, but instead presents something bad, dark or sad.

Female zombie traveler is called a "stereotypically air-brained … dilettante." By definition an "air-brained" dilettante is a person who follows an art or science only for amusement and in a superficial way. I immediately thought of young Hollywood celebrities like Paris Hilton.

The Haiku

First stanza:
Sunrise mixes groan

This illustrates what an alcoholic I am, but my immediate reaction had to do with a cocktail, Tequila Sunrise. Grenadine is a Tequila Sunrise mixer and is made from pomegranates which are native to Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and was cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region since ancient times. It is widely cultivated throughout India and the drier parts of southeast Asia, Malaya, the East Indies and tropical Africa. The tree was introduced into California by Spanish settlers in 1769. In this country it is grown for its fruits mainly in the drier parts of California and Arizona.

Second thought was what mixes with Sunrise and or what do you mix in the morning and why would either groan. Then there are things that are associated with the sunrise including the East, Japan and rebirth.

Second stanza:
Freedom-challenged travelers roamed

Freedom-challenged travelers means slaves or prisoners to me. Where can traveling slaves roam? There were many places escaped American slaves went to be free including Cuba and other parts of the West Indies also to Northern American states and sometimes Western American states.
Jews during the Exodus might also be considered slaves who traveled.

Third Stanza:
Poets yearn for home

Poets, plural. Where have there been more than one homesick poet. Were these poets possibly slaves also?

All this which I already thought of, led me to think concentration camps of the mid-20th C. Either the German Work Camps, or the Russian Gulags. I've tried a few big names (Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, and a few others), but no luck yet.

I'm in! This looks awesome. And i figured out the colour codes thing for The Colour of Divinity, but i put up #CCCCCC (grey) instead of what it actually was. I couldn't figure out what i had done wrong! (if the lowest one has only two Cs, the highest should have the highest amount of Cs, right? Smile ). Thanks guys/girls!

Bah! I'm stuck on Abandoment as well. I initally though it might be Limbo. I remember the descriptions of Limbo in Dante's Inferno being a place of light and beauty, but ultimately timid due to the souls residing there never allowed to being in heaven. I fit this would fit in with the term:

Sunrise mixes groans

As the seeing the sunrise and the light it brings would remind the souls of their eternal rest in limbo, never to be granted there wish of being with god. The groans I figured would represent this.

Freedom-challenged travellers roamed

This is the only one that gave me doubts. While Limbo can be argued to be inhabited by freedom-challenged travellers, the fact that it says roamed means that its past tense. That whatever the place is, it once was a place where these people were. Being that the inhabitants in limbo must stay there for eternity, this is the only thing that gave me doubt.

Poets yearn for home

Limbo would fit perfectly for this. The inferno describes many inhabitants in Limbo being poets (even one of the main character, Virgil, was himself a poet who resided in limbo). Also, Dante himself was truely tortured by his being exhiled from Florence. It's always been known his desire to return.

But alas, even with all this, Limbo was not the correct answer. I'm starting to think along the lines of a place where a zombie would hang out. Also, nobody else has figured out this riddle either, so everybody on the site is literally on the same boat. They werent playing around when they said super-hard I guess. Rolling Eyes

Bah!!!!!

I had also thought of Dante's Inferno, but couldn't make any of the hells work. I had not thought of Limbo though.

Looking at the puzzle again I think it must be a real place and I'm still hung up on the whole dilettante thing. Where would a zombie Paris Hilton go where sunrise mixes groan and poets yearn for home?

Could we be looking at a museum or gallery where works of art symbolize the three stanzas in the Haiku?
