ok, so can anyone explain to me why my answer for Base Pairs won't work? I entered:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Francis Crick
But it won't accept it.

Any clues, or should I have entered
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Maurice Wilkins
instead?

Think about the last decrypted line. It tells you exactly what to do. Have fun figuring out 'k'.

No, a boonie rat from New York. And what does that have to do with the puzzles?

nothing. I had a friend who used to use the nick. I know it's an imaginary cat, but.. i figured I'd check anyway

The answer is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the capital of the region

When you look it up, you'll see that it's the name of
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the maker of a boomstick - not a broomstick

Yeah, I tried that - SEVERAL TIMES. No joy.

And the only boomstick manufacturers I can think of are:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Remington, Mossberg, Ithaca Gun, and Benelli.

you're missing an older one. you're missing an older one.

base pears

Thanks for the helpful spoilers on Base Pairs. I like how there's still a little puzzle you have to solve before getting the correct answer. That was a nice touch.

The only part that I'm still curious about is the "Four Zombie geneticists". Is there a reason why "four" was specified and not, say, "three" or "a few"?

I HATE the Base Pairs quest!!!!

i can't get it AT ALL!!!!! I'M FRICKEN LOST!!!!! I got the clues, but you know what? They dont' help me at all because the whole thing makes no fricken sense to me!! I get the underlying theme - and can read what Wikki tells me - but there are so many variables that i don't even know where to begin to decode it! And every online decoder for DNA doesn't help me because I hardly have any idea what they are saying, and I am probably in the wrong area anyway!

(SORRY-im just starting to get frustrated, can you tell?)

so, all in all? this quest is by far the hardest one for me to figure out! I agree with someone in an earlier post... i need a few tricky/easy quests to make me feel a little clever here!

BASE PAIRS - JUST FOR THE FIRST PART

none of this is new, it is just compiled better in one spot, but if you are still having problems i suggest a re-read.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
we've learned it is a cryptogram. i suggest finding a good crypto decoder program, i know there is on on the tools section at unfiction. but it isn't a cryptogram yet.... as someone already stated, each alpha set stands for a letter, with the one exception that CGT is a space between words instead of being a letter.

now, with that in mind, here is my suggestion on how to tackle it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
don't worry so much about what the letters stand for yet, with the exception of "space" which you will need for the solve. For now, you have to MAKE the cryptogram in order to SOLVE the cryptoogram.

that's all i'll give for now, it is still too fresh to really give it away.

Base Pairs

For me, this was the best quest so far. As I was thinking about it, it gave me a cool idea for a new quest. But then that's exactly what this one turned out to be!

My first submission failed and I thought 'uh oh', maybe its not what I thought at all. But then I found a 'mutation' at the end of my submission. Very Happy

A really, really enjoyable quest.

What's your favorite so far?

Yes, there is a reason why the text mentions four geneticists. You'll understand when you're nearer to completing the puzzle, although it may actually help you start to solve it. With respect to the missing part which you have to calculate, mentioned above, that was also deliberate.
