[SITE] hole2.thehansofoundation.org (May 21) Holy crap, I can't believe I found this!
I was idly thinking about today's change on persephone.thf.org to "2" and then also about her previous message "a mouse does not rely on just one hole" , and so I decided to simply try out different combinations of site addresses ( /hole.html, persephone2.html, etc etc). A useless endeavor, right?
Well, all of the sudden I tried http://hole2.thehansofoundation.org/ and it worked!
Check it out! The only thing that's there is this GIF...note the funky name. So who is this is? and can people who know more about this kind of thing than I find anything else hidden in the pic?
Edit: Changed tag to [SITE] upon discovery of hole3.thf.org - celina63

Awesome!
Perhaps this is a stegged image and the wierd file name is actually the password needed to extract some info from it? Probably won't be able to check this myself since I'm on a Mac and I'm not aware of any tools for Macs to do this sort of thing.

Alas, too easy to be true. "q9als2002" doesn't work as a desteg password.

Don't know if this will help with any of this, but I figure I'll throw it out there...
The Q9 method is an input method that uses only the number keys on a numeric keypad to input Chinese.
ALS can be a shortened term for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease," a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Als is also is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea. Alvar himself is Danish, right? Could he have hidden away there at some point?

What a great find!
After looking at the source text for the gif, my (admittedly very limited) knowledge of camoflaged images indicates that there is nothing stegged in this file. The title of the file might well be useful for something else though.
The image itself looks quite a bit like it might be a manipulated school/college yearbook photo.

The title looks sort of like one of the entries in a flash cookie. I tried adding it to my www.thehansofoundation.org cookie file with a hex editor, but nothing obvious happened when I visited www.thehansofoundation.org . It's possible I made a mistake adding it, since I don't really know that much about the format the cookies are stored in. It's also possible the change was a non-obvious one.

The picture looks pretty simple. Seems to only have two colors to it. Everything seems simple pixels - white or black, even when you super enlarge it. Changing contrast/lighting doesn't reveal anything.
The forehead hair looks wrong. The whitish shading made me wonder about lettering in it, but I don't really see anything.
I love how the web page has a favicon of the same picture.

Well hot diggity, someone else found it too! I was just getting home and re-aquainting myself with the latest clues and I tried (like you did) hole.thehansofoundation and anotherhole.thehansofoundation and secondhole.thehansofoundation and nothing worked out right.
And then hole2! Looks like I was about an hour and a half behind you in discovering it though. Now on to decyphering what this is all for

Oh no, not again...I will be off in a few minutes...
I tried persephone.persephone.
But then I gave up already.
@zzedar
I think the Flash cookies take 8-character-names, but I'm really not sure.
Also, I don't think the 2002 is a coincidence, but maybe you can name the Flash stuff yourself, I wouldn't know about that.
It looks like there is writing at the top of the picture, but that could be just the effect of whatever was applied to that picture.
Question: Is it possible that the string works in some graphic editing tool and reverses what has been done to the picture?
Sounds quite unlikely. If so, it would only add some stuff that was erased from the gif, rather than transform it into a jpg for instance.

Q9 I have no idea on..
als2002 = Alvar Last Seen 2002
Can someone Q9 (the thing that makes the chinese symbols) the phrase 'als2002'? Perhaps that will trigger a 'decode' to the picture, or a clue to a password.
Also, perhaps this image needs to be overlaid to the image of the jacket? Since they seem similiar, and the jacket is missing part of a head, and this is missing most of a face......
Obes.

Can we at least somehow take this face and layer it over a good picture of Marvin Candle to prove whether or not it's him. I'm sure someone has this capability.
BTW, does that look like writing in his hair? It almost looks like "I'm out."
