I think the PM(s) in this game are up to the task of dealing with this new development. Should make for some interesting twists, if they do.

EDIT: Then again, maybe they'll just come pay Shel an "educational visit".

Spuds, I thoroughly enjoy your writing. Thanks for letting us know it's OOG, but I must give you kudos for your talent.

I am sure they are, i am very confident they would be, who knows if they will however choose to ignore the {for lack of better wording} game jack? I understand the want for a fan based spin off game, it happens... but i am not sure it usually happens during the game in such a way that it looks as if the player is trying to create an npc In the game {while yes admitting to be oog}. Not only is it confusing, but a few players didn't take kindly to it. It has its pros and cons. If i were a PM i wouldn't take kindly to it, but other PMs might find it flattering. We will just have to wait and see - maybe when the whole thing is said and done, the PMs can come out with something official about it being cool or not. It is an interesting concept, bringing ARG to a level of role playing {personally, i ARG instead of LARPing to avoid role playing}.

But it is an interesting concept.... {watch as i flip flop some more... lol}

Well...

It wasn't meant to be a "game jack" at all. Shel is a character wandering around in that world who doesn't really interact in many ways outside the exact ways that WE interact.

He e-mails the "characters" and gets replies-- all of which you can see on the blog. The story line of his character develops along with the storyline here, and offers an interesting viewpoint on the goings-on in Aglaura based on his own feelings.

It's not a "spinoff game" in any sense of the word-- only difference being that Shel will act as his own person, responding to questions pointed at him with his own feelings.... much in the same way we SPECULATE about things here. HIs speculation (as mine are) are rarely more than random thoughts.

The interesting part of Shel (to me) is seeing how he creatively comes up with how HE finds the puzzles. If there are players that didn't take too kindly to it-- let them eat cake. I was expressing my creativity in how I chose to play the game.

I can't speculate on what their feelings and motives were, and why they took this so hard. It's just a story, and a character... the only difference between the way YOU play and the way *I* play is that it's not ME-- but a character.

I enjoy Role Playing. Maybe that's not your cup of tea. I've been acting and writing for most of my life so far-- and it's something that I miss doing now that I have a "real job" that keeps me busy most of the time-- an outlet.

If someone were upset about it, they should have talked to me about it so that I could make myself clear. Perhaps the clarity would have straightened things out-- or it will make them worse.

Shel is supposed to be my gift to the players and my gift to the game. It's a vehicle. We can all have fun with Shel. The PMs will use me as they see fit. It *IS* their story, and they can certainly destroy Shel at a moment's notice.

I HOPE that this doesn't ruin anything. I would *HATE* with every fiber of my being for this to happen. I welcome your thoughts as each person writes them here. My feelings don't get hurt easily, so I welcome each viewpoint and a chance to explain what I felt was a great way to play the game.

For those of you interested, please continue reading-- otherwise-- this was all for me, and I'd hate to feel that the effort went unexplored by others.

I think I will PM you to discuss it further {ie, ask questions from a writing stand point, heh}, it is a great concept. Most of my objections were not to you, but specifically to other's wanting the PMs to incorporate it {but if the PMs decided to do it themselves, i'd be okay with it, what can i saw, i'm a Role playing has it's moments. I have used a fake name and fake premise to contact players in game in hopes to get a response. In fact, before the petition started up I contacted dale with my "game name" {i tend to use one specific fake name to contact PM teams because i usually don't want my full name out there} but when i didn't get a response, I used my other email addy and real name for the petition. Lo and behold, now i am stuck because i got a response back today on my "game name". ah!!! lol.

I think I would be interested in how it is affecting your game play. Maybe you could update that info here on a meta level?

META UPDATES FROM SHEL

I think that meta-updates here on Shel's progress is a good idea. Shel can't breech any trusts by posting the e-mails on his blog. However, the information contained is important to our portion of the game, and thusly should be shared.

So, you'll already find Shel - Dale e-mails posted here.

Normally I would agree with you... except for this portion of the blog:

Quote:
Brad is working the diner today, for some reason. I seem to recall him only working nights and weekends but I can’t be sure of it. He comes over to the table and brings me a clear soda beverage... Sprite or Sierra Mist or whatever they serve. I never pay attention to that. At the Diner-- it’s all about the food. I notice that he’s got his sleeve rolled up and a bandage over an area. Some salve is showing out from under the bandage.

"Ow... new work?" I say, almost intuitively.

"Yeah... kinda... it’s been a while, but it got a little infected so I had to salve it and cover it again", Brad said looking somewhat coarse about the whole thing... but continues to show it to me anyway. He gives me a quick peek and then puts the bandage back on it. "Serving the public-- it does have its drawbacks. Can’t keep this showing for long, anyway," Brad continues.

"What is that thing?", I asked. It looked a little familiar.

"It’s the symbol in the woo--", and about that time a large crash of pans and plates came down, .

The generic conversation is OK, but the partial sentence about where the symbol came from without actual in-game corroboration is half a step over the line. It's the "in person" contacts that new players will take for real game info that is the problem. Not Shel's speculation about what is going on, information that is readily available from in-game sources, nor are the e-mails, because we will all get similar ones if that is one of the contact points we signed up for. I just don't want new players accidentally e-mail Shel asking for additional info and treating Shel as being in-game.

New players (and/or solo players) may not be able to tell the difference - the old timers are familiar with waiting until there is a definite link back that the site is in-game.

Except for that particular section of the blog I have listed above, I really don't have any problem with the rest of it.

Well...

That section of the blog is confirmed. We know from Brad's point of view that the symbol has been seen in the woods.

There's nothing in there that doesn't have firm root in the game. Besides, any supposition on the part of Shel is Shel's supposition. And since we're all allowed to speculate in this game, Shel is afforded the same leeway in speculation-- to an extent.

Shel never crossed the line.
