I'm just now catching up and discovering this site. I am told by people in IRC that there is a way to get past the home page and into a "forums" where these other URLs are being posted. I have not gotten that far yet -- i'm told that you can enter the word 'porter' in the newsletter box rather than an email address -- but I would caution you to be skeptical of things posted to a forum, whether or not the site itself is ingame.

the EMRI.perception link mentioned above has been a fan-made site since December, and has always been treated as OutOfGame. If a fan posted that to a forum (or a blog comment), that doesn't make it in-game.

Now, give me some more time to catch up. This could be fun, if it weren't so much work at the end of a long day!

(returned to add) OK, i am now told that those are not real forums, you cannot post to them. So, why would they have a record of a secret forum, which uses this other website? I feel I'm being jerked around, whether by Verizon or ABC or fans. This will take some time to absorb.

If it is ingame, the characters are playing those links as 'found through google', e.g. out of game.

It is kind of dumb that they would link a bunch of sites that are meaningless.

They're blurring the lines. They're saying "Where is the reality?" They're acknowledging the presence of LOST, they're acknowledging the real world, and now giving us a reason why Verizon would be involved with Hanso.

Isn't that the point of an ARG? They're using real-world things into their game to make it seem as if it's actually existing.

Cather, check out the site. We're being given other characters who are involved in Verizon (or some other company) which is being subjugated by Hanso. Since they're communicating over a forum over the web, they put up the Yellow Dog front site so that they aren't immediately caught.

My thought it that one of them is possibly Persephone herself.

Okay after reading through the ROT stuff, here is my quick off-the-cuff assessment. While I appreciate catherwood's caution, above, I am leaning toward accepting this as a legit in-game site.

A short synopsis: you go to www.retrieversoftruth.com, enter "porter" into the email box (I don't know whether you need to enter your email first; that's what fake/useless email accounts are for), and are taken to a secret mirror site of ROT with the header "subjugated by Hanso".

My impression is that this is Verizon's way of becoming 'in-game' -- in the guise of a secret cabal of Verizon employees who somehow find out that Verizon is working with Hanso on some secret and shady projects. These employees set up a hidden message board, led by "DSLerator" who seems to be the one most fearful/wary of Hanso. In fact, 'DSL' could be the opposing hacker we've spec'ed about. Anyway, they talk about passwords and stuff and throw in a couple of useless links to OOG sites -- just like we do on this board. I think the emri link is just meant to be taken as "huh, look at this weird thing," not as a major clue and certainly not as a reason to discount this entire site altogether.

I agree that it would be nice to see for ourselves the actual Hanso commercial that led to ROT in the first place (youtube tomorrow, anyone?) but for now I'm willing to go with it, if only because it adds a new layer to this ARG.

Just wanted to point out the connection to the show here.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Walt lived in Australia. His last name was Lloyd and I believe his stepfather's last name was Porter, if I'm remembering right. Brian Porter I think it was. And of course his dog was Vincent. Brian Porter was freaked out by Walt just like this Porter family was freaked out by this dog born to a black mother. Kind of interesting. All the talk on the website about the yellow labs being able to understand human's thoughts and communicate remind me of a theory I saw about Vincent listening in on the Lostie's conversations and maybe communicating them to the Others somehow. This does seem to reinforce Vincent's importance on the show.

My thoughts, speculations.

In game speculation:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So yeah, these guys are working at Verizon as hackers against THF... but what about this weird stuff?:

DSLerator
11:10am Brace yourselves ... I've got some knowledge I wanna lay on y'all.
Fiberoptician
11:13am Oh Yeah? What's the gossip?
DSLerator
11:20am If I told you, I'd have to kill you.
iobiSeeingYou
11:25am JEEZ!!!! If you know something you better crack! I thought we were friends.
DSLerator
11:35am Did you know that my mother was a major influence in my life? My physical features are identical to hers. That woman put all her hopes in me after the death of my twin brother.
Fiberoptician
11:45am If I were you, I'd wonder who my father was.
DSLerator
11:49am Funny you mention him. My father wasn't in the picture growing up. I've never even seen the man. Mom raised me completely on her own.

Sounds like a clone to me.

Out of game speculation:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. TPTB are having a little fun creating a mock-up using the Lost forums.
2. TPTB are making fun of the people who post on forums.
3. TPTB are watching the forums very closely, which means we have to watch what we say if we don't want the rug pulled out from under us.

Any other thoughts? Both in-game and out-of-game implications?

Alright, I will apologize for venting my frustrations. Remember, sometimes I can be a calm, detached, wise moderator; and other times I am a frantic, frazzled player. When I approach these discoveries as a player, my personal comfort zone ends where the line gets blurry between game and reality. I like knowing where the boundaries are, mainly so I don't waste my time on fake sites. If the good guys make it hard to distinguish their stuff, it makes more work for me to play along -- and I'm just that lazy.

Allow me to quote from tonight's blog entry by Speaker on his official ABC soapbox:
Quote:
Today has just been weird . . . and it was just made weirder by a new Hanso commercial airing during "Boston Legal."

Astute readers C G, Lost Kate, and Acorns e-mailed me with the URL for Retrievers of Truth. I haven't had a chance to fully explore the site, but it looks interesting. Could this be where we get P's next password from?

While I personally would still like to see this new television commercial for myself, for now I guess I should accept that it did indeed air. And I doubt that a prankster would pay for network airtime just to yank my chain. I will still do some detective work on the IP address and server which is hosting this new site, when I get some time at the office. Until then, I should go put on my moderator cap again and add this to our list of ingame websites.

I believe that our Verizon friends know more about Persephone than we do, although I do not think they are the source of the "We know who you are" stuff that we have recently seen.

In the second thread of on the forum off the ROT site one of the poster writes

I believe there is a Japanese mouse in this building. The kind that's been through the maze so many times, it lost track of its original purpose. And now instead of working of the greater good of humanity, the experiment has turned on itself and the Laws of Nature have been torn to shreds...

It has long been speculated that the lady in the intro is Persephone, and that same woman appears on the lycgy site. So Perhaps she is this mouse who has gone astray.

I think we will find in the next few weeks that although Hanso et. al. are bad and will stay bad, it will be hard to understand who is "good." I do not think we can trust any of our sources- nor can we write them off. This includes Persephone, the other phantom hacker, DJ Dan, and the ROT. (I think the jury is still out on Speaker, I find his information dubious at best.)

I don't know if I buy this. The girl hacks the company site and breaks into the phone system? Do you think this could be a trap? She's got to have inside information. Maybe she is a spy for the Hanso people. I'd say proceed with caution.

A trap?

Man, I haven't seen a good ARG trap since City Of Domes. I think my name is still on the Carousel list in fact.

Anyway, iobiSeeingYou has a point, doesn't she?

Shouldn't word = world?

I guess its possible, but I think they are trying to get somewhere by saying word. If they meant world, then they wouldnt have said word so many times.

The word "word" does seem to be correct for whatever reason, however it's hard to discount that the word "world" fits these sentences better. So maybe there's a clue regarding the missing "l" from world, and might that possibly tie into "missing organs." Then again, I'm probably going off on another tangent with this thought.

It may a trap meant to occupy our time so that we fail to crack the new countdown page at THF. Or it may provide the clues needed to hack into it.

Of course, there is also the frightening photo shopping of the picture of the doctor. I mean, I don't think it's possible for a head to look one direction and a face look the opposite direction.

Again a question of intentionality or sloppiness?

Oh and to add on, he uses the word word four times, so I think he means word. And he says the word is YOU. So where do we use the word YOU?

I'm trying to think what "YOU" might be, as in if that's a code of somesort. Like, since it's Verizon maybe you should textmessage "YOU," but I've never used my text messaging feature as of yet. Or maybe the letters need to convert to numbers. Possibilities...

The corresponding numbers on a phonepad are "968"
If you play their common A=1, B=2, etc, game they read "23, 15, 19"
In Binary: 01011001 01001111 01010101
In hex: 59 4f 55
In base64: WU9V
In ASCII: 89 79 85
Also, if you translate 23 15 19 from ASCII to hex you get: 17 0f 13

As for the Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bole (pronounced "Bolay"), this definitely needs some Photoshop work...

It appears someone used a face making program to give him glasses and a different nose, lips, hair, and chin with beard. I'm thinking only the skin and maybe his eyes are real.

Did everyone take note of the post on the 1st (bottom) topic that reads:
Quote:
"So then Wednesday is black and red from now on?"

Each of these threads has been started on a Wednesday, so I assume that means that we should check back for new info on the 14th?

Also, one of the posts links to this site, which introduces a) clones and b) facial distortion like in the picture of Bole.

Check out the other pictures on the main page...

Notice the yellow rays surrounding the image of the lab. As you may recall, one of the techniques we tried to tweak the hole2 image was to do something that turned it into a central image (like an elephant trunk) surrounded by rays. Is there a way to reverse that process on this image.

On the next image...

What's the gray stuff on the dog's face? And why is the background in graytones?

In the immortal words of the great Admiral Ackbar -- "it's a trap!"
But what do you think the implications are of the whole clone thing that I mentioned earlier? Or is it yet another red herring?
