Meta information in ARGs is information related to the game, but not PART of the game.

Something like knowledge of who's running a game is a simple example of meta-info, but it can include less obvious things, as well.

"Meta" is also a prefix that adds a redundant (usually summarizing) aspect to a term.
Meta-data is data about data (like the robot information in an HTML page)
A meta-directory is a directory of directories
Meta-information is information about information

Then of course, there's meta-discussion and meta-discussion.

Meta-discussion is when characters in a game subtly push you in a certain direction, or communicate something from the PMs without breaking the curtain.
Meta-discussion is when people talk about meta issues, as Rogi described.

(anyone else see how ridiculous this is, yet?)

Meta- (from Greek: μετά = "after", "beyond", "with", "adjacent", "self"), is a prefix used in English (and other Greek-owing languages) to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, used to complete or add to the latter..ok
