[Update] Mythosphere - June 16

This has been added to mythosphere.
Quote:
Somehow, in an unexplainable way, I know it has begun. Memory becomes prophesy, recollection becomes fantasy, prophesy becomes reality, mythology imbues it all. ||

What I was, what I am, what am I? || Never can I make the memory stay.

Six voices speak to me, a different voice and purpose to each. || Six faces I see before me, the last vestiges of a fading truth. || Six tongues, six messages, one reality.

|| All of this will soon be gone. ||

"All this will soon be gone" links to a picture that was received by a player in CTW1.

[edit - only to correct typo in the word mythosphere, TWICE Wink, and keep the date scheme internationally friendly - kona]

"All of this will soon be gone" is repeated in Dale's dreams.

SPEC: stuff is gonna change real soon. Like next week. (Which means the AGP Contest will be a moot point and we'll probably have that damn cemetery again). The Six will change reality next week - and we need to find that darn Wish character to change things back????

Maybe make copies of websites now (if you have that ability) so we can compare for changes?

We have spelling police? And what is this date thing you're talking about?

Not police, just me being by usual anal/obsessive/compulsive/neatnick self.
In Europe the day is before the month (like military notation) so our non-American friends might see 2/7 as July 2nd, while in American we see 2/7 as Feb 7th. So when we first started these threads, I was trying to keep the dates as Month day (i.e. June 16, or July 2).
Don't worry, be happy. Move along, nothing to see here. Cool

Edit to add: the typos were in the heading and the name of Mythosphere. Enaxor had a little trouble with her "h" and didn't remember it. That's the only reason I fixed it (I should have used "fixed" instead of "corrected" and I'm sorry if I seemed like a school marm. I'll go sit in the corner now Confused

Perhaps we should use the notation I was taught in the military?

For July 2nd 2006, I'd use either "2Jul06" or 02Jul2006"

Perhaps we should all use the date scheme that's most comfortable to each of us. I'm pretty sure we're smart enough to figure out US dating vs European dating.

Just FYI I have archived all of the sites (with the exception of the YouTube site) as of around 1:00am last night. This inlcuded all videos, flash versions of sites, etc. I'll do my best to keep it up to date in case "all of this will soon be gone".

Quote:
Stranger, dreams are intractable and hard to discern,
nor are they always fulfilled for men.
For double are the gates of fleeting dreams:
the one constructed of horn, the other of ivory;
and those that come through the one of sawn ivory,
they deceive, bearing unfulfilled words;
whereas those that come from the door
of polished horn,
they fulfill true things, when mortals see them.

a reference to Virgil:

Wiki article
"There are two gates of Sleep, one said to be of horn, whereby the true shades pass with ease, the other all white ivory agleam without a flaw, and yet false dreams are sent through this one by the ghost to the upper world. Anchises now, his last instructions given, took son and Sibyl and let them go by the Ivory Gate." (Italics added for emphasis) (Book VI, Lines 1211-1219, Fitzgerald Trans.)

Another place where the quotation of the two gates are used:

"In Iliad (XIX.560) two kinds of dreams are distinguished, as they exit from the realm of Morpheus: true dreams exit through the Gate of Horn, and false dreams through the Gate of Ivory."

[spec] If we are to choose which gate at some point, this may be the method to tell which one will send Dale back to a reality. One will be the world as it truely is, and the other to the false world (false meaning wished?).

Editied to add

We still have no CTW2 way of linking this to the rest of the game yet do we? I wonder if it will continue to be an easter egg for us or eventually get connected back into the myth?

I noticed two pages in the source:

http://www.mythosphere.org/soon.html

and

http://www.mythosphere.org/m1.html

Nahs.

Edit: Err, sorry...this is a cross-post. Already mentioned that it goes to m6. Duh me. Wink
