[SUMMARY] Digging around the Rabbit Hole [May 7]

Okay, the Quick Reference guide is quick, as the name implies, so I wanted to dig around the entrance to the rabbit hole, so to speak, for some of the clues we may have overlooked in our rush to get started.

The television ad: It plays every time we enter the Hanso site. That's a devilishly clever way to hide something in plain sight. Nice thing with flash video is that you can slide it around while it's paused to look closer (and right click/zoom in), not exactly frame-by-frame but closer. We've all noticed Da Vicni and his Vitruvian Man, a Double Helix of DNA, a space shuttle, a picture of the man we now know to be founder Alvar Hanso (viewed behind bars which is a damn odd way to show your beloved founder, isn't it?), and the sun emerging from behind the earth and the slogan "Reaching Out to a Better Tomorrow"

I can't say I noticed much, other than that the DNA strand is superimposed over AH when he first appears. Still, it's good to know this ability is there and a more observant pair of eyes than mine may spot something.

There seems to be a lot more obvious clue fodder (or red herrings) in the phone menu and messages.

Complete transcripts of phonemessages at TLE

And limited audio snippets are dowloadable here at ARPN

The music repeatedly references a fictional music artist, Geronimo Jackson, and his album Magna Carta which a now defunct OOG website (www.geronimo-jackson.com) spelled Macna Carta

Amazon has no exact matches for Geronimo Jackson HOWEVER Bad Twin by Gary Troupe comes up as the first "popular related result"

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The album is found by Charlie and Hurley in the Hatch during the episode The Hunting Party. It makes a reappearance in the episode Lockdown during a scene near episode's beginning, in which Locke is flipping through various albums.

The Monster.com ad was already addressed. Hugh McIntyre has a resume posted there, he is looking for a new job. Hugh isn't happy at Hanso or he's expecting to be fired. Hugh is the author of that press release and may therefore be the one sending messages to persephone, in which case he's working against Hanso, hm.

And oh yes, Hugh's voicemail is FULL and he's not answering his email. Now he does say he'll be gone for two weeks, so maybe we just have to wait 2 weeks for any email replies but then again, he could be sleeping with the fishes.

Persephone says: the real story is in the number

infuriatingly ambiguous but worth noting as clues go. Other than THE numbers, there are the phone numbers but also:

Hanso's address is repeated immediately afterwards

544 Persand Klingbai DK-1604 Copenhagen V

TM says: I will be continuously updating the confidential information line. Please refer to your project manual for hotline access instructions.

As has been noted, we should probably be searching for some project manuals - which brings us to...

Renaming Projects: TM also says in Hugh's voicemail that he "got the changes" and they should go ahead and "rename the accelerated remote viewing training facilities as well"

Now aside from the fact that nothing should ever be called something as unwieldly as an accelerated remote viewing training facility in the first place, they're renaming things. And it was also noted that there are some discrepencies between the project logos pictured on the Mission Statement page, the fine print listing projects beneath them, and the Active Projects listed in the website menu.

This chart just makes it easier to follow what others already mapped out

Educational outreach Imperative has no logo or link under live projects. Mental Health Appeal and Electromagnetic Research Initiative both have logos and links but aren't listed among the projects. Now it was suggested that EOI was simply split off into these other two projects - but if it was OLDER it would have a logo. More likely, it is the new, pretty name for something nasty. TM's message in Hugh's voicemail certainly sounds like they're changing names for PR and CYA reasons, not simply separating out projects that have grown too large.

If so, It's Mental Health Appeal and Electromagnetic Research that they want to play down and phase out of the public eye.

And that brings us to one of the theories on the numbers: UK folks and anyone else filtering out anything from the show cannot follow this link, there is no way to present and argue the theory without major season 2 spoilerage.

TM's middle name is given as Werner. Mittelwerk was the name of a Nazi factory where Werner Von Braun worked constructing rockets for the Germans. And if we can keep an Orangutang alive for 105 years, some of these Hanso guys could be a lot older than they appear.

We also learn in the phone chains that AH is missing. It's been noted that TM is the only corporate officer whose signature appears on his page, and it's widely speculated that he has taken over.

Also of interest (I think) is a character casting call that has some very suggestive bios. It is peeking behind the curtain, but those who have no objection to doing so, read those bios. One is very likely TM and certainly confirms speculation up to this point.

Excellent summary post. One question though

We don't know this to be fact do we?
While we can see a app listed on monster I have yet to see someone say "Yeah, I have a login for employers and I checked it, here is what it says"
I've seen someone say that it "is word for word the same as Hugh's job description", but that was said, nothing was posted. I've searched and I've yet to see anyone say 100% that the monster Hanso match is certain, if there is such a post can I get a link? Very Happy

One would expect that of the hundreds of users on this forum, that SOMEONE would have access to Monster.com's employer's section?

Good point, kmduke. We don't have any confirmation on Hugh's resume. However I did just learn that you can search his name (not Hanso) and get the same resume.

There are several more there now that return for Hanso and 1 other that returns for Hugh, but these are all late additions.

Doesn't it seem likely that Educational Outreach Imperative is the euphemism for "accelerated remote viewing training facilities"? Similar concept- education=training, remote viewing=outreach. Sounds like some kind of distance learning thing, but it also has creepy resonances of the-

Lots of good stuff here. I'll have to comment in parts...

I thought the same thing from the first time I went to the site. There are also two spots you can view the same video, which I find odd. That it, the homepage and the television ad page. One of the very first things I tried doing was to pause the tv ad as I watched it, and in particular I tried to make out the background letters within the double helix. Unfortunately I couldn't make anything sensible out of it, but I still think there's something to that ad that we're all missing.

This gives me another shot. Many of us have gone to Amazon or Barnes&Noble to see that they have the book Bad Twin listed there. But has anyone tried going to a mainstream music site such as ITunes to see if there's anything available from Geronimo Jackson or even from Drive Shaft, or if there's any link to the Magna Carta album. I don't have an ITunes account or I'd try this, but what as an ARG I noticed they like to utilize major websites, and there may be a clue on the web within the hinted at music. BTW, do you recall what the album cover looked like. What it this...

I never heard this before. Is it possible for someone to locate and post his resume on here? If indeed he is looking for a new job, maybe it's because he didn't like the idea of some imposter going on Jimmey Kimmel claiming to be him.

Just to refresh my memory, when did she say this? Also, is there a way to do an address search to figure out what's really at this location?

Denmarks Yellow pages. The adress is false. If that helps. No hanso foundation found either.

Music

HI,

I just checked Napster- nothing for Geranimo Jackson, nothing for Drive Shaft. If you put in just "Geranimo" you get back "The Outhere Brothers" which looks like a rap group that likes to use all of the bad words.

If you just put in the words "Drive Shaft" you get back "Son Kite" and "Butt Boy".

I also tried "Moth'- the song from Drive Shaft that was on the show and it's also the name of one of the characters from Bad Twin, the results are"

"People in Planes" which is the artist, and "As far as the eye can see" is the album name.

Also Moe did a song called "Moth" on the album Warts and All Vol 3.

The Neon Philharmonic has an album out called "The Moth Confesses" Aimee Man also has a song out called "The Moth"

There's also an artist called "Moth" and they have an album out called "Provisions, Fiction and Gear" and The Happy Dog(artist) has a song out called "King Moth".

There's also a group called "Moth Music" they have a bunch of songs out, one of which is called "A Tale of Patience" And there's a "Mass Movement of the Moth" which you have to buy to hear, indicating that it's either REALLY good, or brand new.

I'm not sure if that's helpful or not, but if it's a red herring, some of them are pretty funny, intentional or not.

In the official ABC Lost Podcast, the producers/writers said that Geranimo Jackson is a real, although extremely obscure, band. Draft Shaft is an entirely in-show creation. I'm not ruling out TINAG here, but they do make a distinction between the two.

They also claim to have been pissing off the Hanso Foundation by using them in the show.

The only time that Damon and Carlton ever brought up the Lost Experience as a fictional game was the one time they announced it. Ever since, they've been playing TINAG.

Right, so, in that vein, either Geranimo Jackson is part of the game, not the show (hence they claim it is real) or they are a real band.

I'm fairly sure they did the bit about Geranimo Jackson BEFORE they announced the game as a game. Or at least around the same time. It was certainly before the start of TLE. This is why I think it's open to interpretation.

Also, Jorge Garcia (Hurley) said that when they were looking for props, the writers asked the cast and crew to contribute names of obscure 1970s bands.

EDIT: correction, see post below

Honestly, I'm pretty sure Geronimo Jackson was created for Lost. Even if it was an obscure, little known band, I think that SOMETHING would have turned up in the year since we first learned about him. I doubt very much that it would have remained so hard to find at this point.

Sorry all- I went back and checked and my memory has failed me- they talk about Geronimo Jackson in the May 15th podcast, quite after the start of TLE, and in fact they are responding to a question that included references to the Hanso call waiting music and a joke about Sprite. So...

I stand by my initial reaction, which is that Damon and Carlton do say the band is a real, but obscure, band, which makes it different from their usual discussions of the plot of Lost itself, which they treat as fiction. This indicates to me that if it was created for LOST, that it's either part of TLE , or it's some part of the plot and so they want to keep up an illusion until the secret is revealed. Sort of the same thing, in the end...

Also, they say there are two albums, only one of which the producers themselves have even heard. I assume they mean Magna Carta. Did the Hanso hotline have any of the actual album on it or was it just a DJ talking about it? I know there was that LYMON rap thing, but that is now on the SUBLYMONAL site and it's not GJ.

http://www.allmusic.com/ has a rather enormous database of published music, and a search on "geronimo jackson" doesn't show any traces of such a band. So either it's REALLY obscure, or it's fictional. Doesn't prove anything, but I'd lean towards fictional.

Had they been a real band, one would expect that some surviving member of the band would have been interviewed once they became semi-famous on the internet, but there's nothing when you Google them.

No record or mention of an album anywhere. There would plenty of hardcore rock geeks who could say "Oh hey! I have a copy of Macna Carta!" (MACna Carta - that's what it seems to be when you got to www.geronimo-jackson.com and check Google's cached site)

References to nobody knowing them on the TV show.

The only actual reference you can find about Geronimo Jackson is connected to Lost, whether it be on the show, on the official ABC podcast, or on the voicemail.

Quite frankly, it seems pretty evident that they're a made-up band for the show. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Alvar Hanso is the only person who has a copy of their albums, and he keeps them on a pedestal next to the Valenzetti Equation.
